Western Mountaineering VersaLite Super Sleeping Bag: 10 Degree Down

Previously rated at a conservative 15 degrees and now sporting a full draft collar, the astonishingly light VersaLite Super is now rated as a 10 degree bag. The VersaLite contains 20 ounces of high loft 850+ down fill for a full 6” of loft. 62” of shoulder girth is extra roomy, and the total weight is still only 2 pounds. 20 x 20 denier Ripstop nylon is calendared to provide a more downproof fabric–meaning down is less likely to leak out of your bag like a goose shedding its feathers, increasing the life of the bag. A silky smooth taffeta lining is soft on the skin and breathable for climate control inside your bag so you stay warm without cooking your goose. You'll appreciate Western Mountaineering's meticulous craftsmanship when you're still sleeping toasty warm decades after you purchased this bag.

Bottom Line: Meticulous craftsmanship makes all the difference.

Good high altitude bag ... but

By:
September 8, 2008

Just used it for the Machu Picchu Trail in Peru. Good bag, good temperature, but after this first time use it "sheds" quite a bit of down, coming through the fabric of the outer material, whereas my husbands 2 year old Badger bag does not have this.

What is the differnce between the western mountaineering's versalite and the versalite super?

According to Western Mountaineering, the "Super" denotes the addition of a draft collar. Odd that Backcountry's other Versalite (the one that isn't labeled "Super") is also described as having a draft collar. You might ask one of the BC folks to check on that.

A Fine High Altitude Performance

By:
August 25, 2005

I took the Versatile with me on an 8 night trekking/climbing trip to Peru's Cordillera Blanca this August. Slept above 12,000ft six of those eight nights. The bag performed well throughout and I appreciated its very light weight. This is the second Western Mountaineering bag I have purchased. I think Western Mountaineering makes excellent bags.

Couldn't ask for better

Just what I was looking for!!!! Currently planning a 2005 AT thru-hike and the BackcountryStore.com gang are tops in my book for knowledge, dependability and responsiveness. While I know Western Mountaineering is improving the Versalite (this item, WES0009 - Ed.'s note), the version BackcountryStore.com offered me is lightweight with a warmth factor I needed at the time. BackcountryStore.com's "real time" chat feature enabled me to make the right choice at the right time at the right price. Thanks again!! See you down the trail.
