Vasque Mantra Hiking Shoe - Men's
If you're looking for day hiking shoes that'll perform on the trail and look sleek in town, grab the Vasque Men's Mantra Hiking Shoes. A water-resistant nubuck leather upper holds up to moisture on the trail, and the airmesh nylon fabric helps keep your feet from overheating. The Mantra Hiking Shoes' Vibram soles give you bomber traction on wet terrain, and a molded EVA midsole cushions your steps all day long.

So far I have only done a few day hikes with these, and a lot of walking around town and boulder approaches, and I couldn't be happier. They are very solid and the vibram soles grip the rock like there life is depending on it. I would advise to waterproof them though as I did get mine soaked during a rain storm.
Great fit, needed new insoles.

This is my first pair of true hiking shoes and they fit great right out of the box. Much narrower than keens which work great for my feet. Took these things on a 6 mile hike the day I got them and didn't have any hot spots. Good traction and grip, breathability seems good although the summer will be the real test. Opted to not go with the gtx due to price, weight, and lack of breathability. Downside: after about 2 days I realized that the insoles were crap. So I went and got some Dr. Scholls work insoles and now they are much better. I wear these as my work shoes in Hospital so I spend damn near 12 hours in these things standing and am quite comfortable. Get new soles and you won't regret it. Great buy.
why wouldnt it?

My Mantra

I put these on and immediately I was in Om Mani Padme Hum land. Now equipped to fly up the Himalayan peak of Nanda Devi I couldn't be happier. And here's why: They fit, although it took some time to get there. I bought my usual size but they were too short. With a quick phone call Backcountry rose to the occasion and found me a 1/2 size larger and sent it on their dime. Even the return post on their dime. Great service. Back to the shoes. They run a little narrow which is perfect for me. They're sturdy and my wife says they look "cool". They require an arch support of some sort or additional insole but I suspected that. Time will tell if they last. And now comfortably shod I return to my mantra, OMMMMMMMMMMM
Good Shoe

This is a quality made shoe. However it was too narrow for my wide foot and the cushioning was not what I wanted so I replaced then with a pair of Keens.
Great shoe!

Vasque is one of my fav footwear companies - I really like my Mantras - they're a great all-purpose dry-weather shoe. Comfort is good, Vibram soles are grippy, looks are good, they're plenty light enough, and the price was great. I have a size 13 shoe and my left foot is a bit longer than my right. The big toe of my left foot barely touches the end of the shoe, right shoe is great, width is true-to-size - I have a medium wide foot.
Great shoe but watch the sizing

Bought these Vasque because they were similar to a pair of Asolos which I destroyed(took three years).I live in NYC and wanted something versatile and strong, which they seem to be .They are a little taller than a regular sneaker or walking shoe, thus they provide more ankle support.
The down side : I bought a pair of 9's, my usual size and I have a wide foot ,not extremely so,but these guys seem to run narrow.I may have opted for a larger size , but then they get to be clumsy if you are an active walker..Maybe they will widen up as they break in.
Other than that they are a good value for the money and I think they will serve me well
Excellent Shoe

They fit me well and feel great all day long. Very comfy and breathable with great grip. I don't pronate at all and it is hard to find shoes without a high arch support. These are pretty neutral. They also do run a little more narrow, which fits me great. I highly recommend these shoes for light hikes or around town. They also keep my feet warm with light wool socks down to 30's.
Great shoe

I had theses for three weeks and have done allot of walking in them and they are holding up real well and they are very comfortable. They are more durable than the New Balance walking shoe I am very happy with these shoes. I recommend to buy these.
exchanged them

I liked the look of these shoes, and I am sure they'd get the job done. For me, the 10.5s were too small. I previously wore a 9.5 consistently. But, these days, I am buying 11s. Also, these shoes had a harder sole than I wanted. Not a serious hiker, I opted for a more cushioned sole.
