The North Face Mountain Pant - Men's - 2008
The North Face Men's Mountain Pant handles the worst weather the mountains can dish out. Two-layer waterproof breathable Gore-Tex Performance fabric stands tough in the face of howling winds and driving snow. Full side zippers act as vents when you start sweating from a thousand vertical feet of knee-deep trail breaking, and removable suspenders help keep the pant secured on the descent from the summit. An attached elastic gaiter blocks spindrift from blowing up your legs, and The North Face included Kevlar kickpatches to keep your ski boots or crampons from shredding the cuffs.
Bottom Line: Get burly weather protection in and out of bounds with The North Face Mountain Pants.
Talk shop with all the gear freaks out there: ask 'em questions, upload/browse photos, and give your 2¢.
Yup. Get on Live Chat, they'll tell you when.

Awesome Pants!!

What more do you need? Pants fit great, gaiters, Gore-Tex Performance shell, full zips, plenty of pockets and actually warmer than I thought they would be. The adjustable waist allows me to wear with either just a thin base layer, or add fleece for super cold in the upper Midwest. TNF does it again with another durable, nice looking, great fitting multi purpose pant.

28K means it will take 28000 mm of rain in a 24 hour period to penetrate the fabric.http://www.backcountry.com/store/newsletter/a254/Wate

If you have thick thighs or are planning to wear fleece pants underneath, order one size larger than usuaal. The thigh area is on the small side. After getting the right size, I thought they were great!

i am looking at picking up a pair of TNF 'mountain' or 'free thinker' and was wondering if anyone would be able to help me out with what pair are the better buy. generally looking for a quality shell (no insulation) that will keep my dry in all conditions (snow + rain for the frigid and warmer days) and are built to last through more than one season. seems like both pairs offer pretty much the same specs so i'm wondering if the extra money for the 'free thinker' really provides anything extra that the 'mountain' does not. can anyone help out??

I do not own the Free Thinker, but after reading the reviews for them, it was a no brainer to buy these pants. The Free Thiker are not the Gore-Tex Enduro Pro shell, they are just Gore-Tex performance like these, also read that the zip on the rear of the Free Thinker, is not sealed well. These pants rock, although the Free Thinker are way down in price now.

GREAT PANTS !!

These are great ski pants - they can take whatever the mountain throws at them. They are NF's "performance fit" which means a little more fitted than the Freedom pants, etc. They have great waterproof zippers and have a very light lining so I don't have to layer(just compression shorts and knee hi liner socks.) I have 2 pair of these and they are the only ski pants I wear now.

i just received these in a large as i am right on the cusp of a medium. the fit was quite large as the inside waist measurement was 40 which was way too big for my 34.5 waist. i'm wondering if the med. would run a little big which would work for me. i really like the pant so may try again. i just shipped pants back for refund. can you help out here

You have to send them back through the normal return policy, you get an RMA number and stuff. It's in the order history part of your account. If you just mailed them back without an RMA you might be SOL. Get on the Live Chat and talk to a Gearhead and they might be able to help.
