The North Face Denali Hooded Fleece Jacket - Men's
From alpine base camps to mountain town bars, The North Face Men's Denali Hooded Jacket is keeping bodies warm and heads warmer. This North Face fleece, first developed in its classic hoodless form, owes its perennial popularity to its good looks and hybrid functionality. The nylon-reinforced upper body shoulders, and elbows lend the Denali Hooded Jacket more wind and water resistance than normal 300-weight fleeces, extending the jacket's comfort range to windy or damp conditions, and the nylon-covered fleece hood adds an extra level of warmth in the windy drizzle of early spring and fall. With two chest pockets and 2 handwarmer pockets, it has plenty of storage for essentials, whether that means a spare crampon wire and a multitool, or just your cell phone and cash.
- Note: To be kinder to the environment, The North Face now manufactures all Denali Jackets with recycled Polartec 300 fleece. Colors with an 'R' in front of the name feature recycled fleece.
Bottom Line: The North Face Denali Hooded Jacket improves on the classic.

Get this instead of the non-hooded Denali
By: Eric Tee
December 9, 2008
For a couple more bones, I highly recommend getting this over the original non-hooded Denali. (Unless you do your hair everyday and you live in a sunny state). The hood on this jacket not only keeps rain out, it also keeps your head/ears very warm. And when it goes on your back, it pops out and looks awesome. The hood is non-removable, but it fits great on your head and there's adjustable drawstrings to keep it tight on your face. Everyone will look at you and say "Woah, how comes YOUR Denali has a hood and the other 30 people I saw today doesn't"
How big is the hood on this jacket/ Some of the Patagonia jackets
How big is the hood on this jacket/ Some of the Patagonia jackets say their hood is big enough to handle a helmet. I don't think TNF's hood is that big but I don't want anything that doesn't generously cover a ball cap. Thanks in advance, C

The North Face Denali Hooded Fleece Jacket

This is a 300 heavyweight fleece but feels like a 200 midweight fleece. Somewhat warm yet bulky jacket.
This fleece jacket will NOT block out the wind so a shell or insulated jacket MUST be worn on top of this fleece for warmth and to block out the wind!
Problem is... it's BULKY so it'll feel tight with a shell!
Used with both TNF and Patagonia waterproof shell jackets and it IS bulky!
It's fashionable mainly due to the hood which is can not be detached but provides warmth and blocks out wind. Comes in very handy since many people, like myself, forget to bring a fleece hat/cap along.
Bought this as a replacement to my other TNF fleece jackets that I own.
It's still PRICEY, which is typical of ALL TNF products!
Will consider another brand's fleece that has the WindPro fleece (blocks out wind) next time at a lower price!
Reading the reviews, some people have said it only feels like
Reading the reviews, some people have said it only feels like a 200... is this a very common complaint?
By: Kyle P

you got a whole page full of reviews to tell you if its common or not...the fabric and the jacket is LIGHT, that might be why people say that...im amazed at how light it is

TNF Hooded Denali Mens Jacket
By: MC
January 7, 2009
Bought the Men's Lge. Cardinal Red TNF Denali Hoodie as a replacement to my older Denali Jacket with a discount. Otherwise, it's relatively still too expensive! Other companies make similar, if not better, fleece jackets (though not with a hood) for a whole lot less!
Listed as a 300-weight (heavyweight) fleece but feels like a 200-weight (midweight) fleece.
It's bulky and somewhat tight when using with a shell. Barely able to use a thin Polartec 100 pullover underneath for additional warmth as the jacket is basically true to size. If you want roominess, then order 1 size up but remember that it's BULKY so fitting it underneath a jacket may be a hassle if it's TOO roomy!
Indoors... it's warm but bulky and also stylish with the hood!
Outdoors... it'll depend on the weather and/or temperature! For something that's bulky, it lets the wind pass right through it so it's NOT warm on windy (cold) days!! Only the nylon-covered portions provide warmth against the wind, which doesn't help much!
The hood is a good and new feature which helps with the cold. Many people, like myself, forget to bring a winter cap/hat so a hood comes in handy!
The jacket IS OVERPRICED but expected of TNF products! Other makers (i.e. Eddie Bauer, LLBean, etc..) makes a better jacket using WindPro fleece fabric that does provide wind protection and warmth at a much lower price!!
Somewhat disappointed about the quality/feel of the fabric. It should be warmer but it's not.
May not consider another TNF jacket for another few years and will look for WindPro jackets instead.
In New England, it's not just cold, it's windy!
Must have a jacket to block out the wind, which this Hooded Denali Jacket does NOT do! At least it's relatively warm when worn underneath a shell or down jacket but not by itself!
Meant for:
- Cold weather - Yes, but not <35 degrees Fahrenheit. It's not that warm!
- Windy weather - NO, MUST wear a shell/jacket on top to block out wind!

Thank goodness for a US friend who sent this across to teh UK - it's been a Godsend!! Fantastically warm, well styled, showerproof (a must in the UK) and technically well specified. Note that it is a "zip in" so zip does up the "wrong way". Great service from BackCountry. Thx.

The hoodie gives this jacket an edge. The jacket maynot be windproof but it does keep you warm. During our cold months in GA, yes we do have weeks that are cold. At 34-48, I stayed warm with just a tshirt underneath.

I have the non-hooded Denali and decided to purchase the hooded Denali. The hooded Denali is just great for early morning winter walks with my dog. The hood keeps my head warm. It blocks the cold windchill from reaching my upper body.

Sounds like borderline M/L. Depends on how you'll be using it and what you'll have beneath. For casual pursuits or with several layers beneath, go with the large. If it's for outdoor use or you plan to just go with a tee beneath, go with the large.

My son loves the hood

Only Denali jackets without the hood are available at the big box sporting goods store closest to us. So when we saw the hooded version available online, my son had to have it. He loves it. He likes that there aren't that many other people wearing this version. It's a good-looking winter jacket. Another plus is that backcountry.com shipped really quickly. Standard shipping arrived within just a few days.

My 16-year old son got the hooded Denali and my 19-year old got the regular Denali. He wishes now he'd gotten the hooded one too. It fits great, it's warm, plus the hood alleviates the need for a hat, which usually just ends up as a big bulge in the pocket or lost completely.

Only if the other jacket is an outer shell designed for such purposes. Look for a TNF shell that includes a zip-in feature.Otherwise, you'll find this to be too thick and bulky to serve as a liner. It's not its designed purpose!

Since this is a jacket, you really need to measure his chest and arms for a more accurate sizing estimate, but I would say a Medium sounds right. I'm a 34" waist and that is what I wear.

I bought it to give me better cold wind protection than my well-worn classical Carhart hooded and padded jacket. I have been dissapointed so far except for the hood. Style and other features are acceptable.
The hood's not removable, if that's what you mean.
