The North Face Kaboodle Softshell Pant - Women's
The North Face Women's Kaboodle Softshell Pant combined an Apex ClimateBlock face fabric with a fleece lining for supreme warmth and comfort on the hill. Far more breathable than your hardshell pant, the Kaboodle keeps you from overheating during your pedal-to-the-metal runs and hikes to out-of-bounds ridge in waist-deep freshies. The North Face uses full seam taping to give this pant excellent water resistance, so you don't get soaked when ripping on a powder day.
Bottom Line: Embrace the softshell revolution.

is this pant warm and dry enough by itself for zero degree snowy
is this pant warm and dry enough by itself for zero degree snowy and windy mountainous conditions?? Is there room to wear a layer underneath??

The pant does have a fleece backing on it, so it will probably be warmer than a traditional shell pant- but I would still want to size it so that I could wear a layer under it if it was cold.

The North Face Kaboodle Softshell Pant

I was impressed with the fabric, water-repellency, and breathability as well as the inexpensive ($206) price on these softshell pants as advertised; however, because I am short (5 feet 2 inches), the pants were 3 1/2 inches too long and could not be hemmed for that amount because of the inner protective cuff. Was sorry I had to return them. Wish these pants would've been made in a shorter length of 29 inches. BackCountry personnel are always courteous, and their service efficient - I enjoy ordering from this company! Maybe next year North Face will offer the "STH Softshell" women's pant in a size small, short, in the color black. Last year I ordered this same pant in size small, short, in the color brownie, and I wear it several times weekly when I snowshoe in the hills - it's a well-made, warm, stretchy, and sturdy pant which I love!!
in terms of sizing and fit, how does this compare with the north
in terms of sizing and fit, how does this compare with the north face sth pant? i've only tried on (and seen) the sth pant, and quite like how it fits. is the kaboodle more/less roomy along the leg, etc?

Why on Earth do these (and many others) have to be sooooooo expensive???

Welcome to the outdoor industry. "Just pants" is a bit of an understatement for breathable, windproof, fleece-lined pants like these, but yes, they are expensive. If it's any consolation, North Face isn't really one of the more expensive companies, everyone prices like this.
