The North Face Apex Bionic Triclimate Softshell Jacket - Women's

You wake up in your mountain chalet and it looks like a perfect day for a hike or a snowshoeing outing. Hmm … softshell or insulated jacket? You don't have to choose one or the other, just grab The North Face Women's Apex Bionic Triclimate Softshell Jacket. The softshell exterior on the Apex Bionic Triclimate blocks wind and has a DWR finish for light snow, while the removable 100g synthetic liner jacket adds a bit of warmth. A fleece lining on the shell feels soft when you go without the liner.

Bottom Line: Softshell, synthetic liner jacket, or both.

Apex jacket

I bought this jacket in a size small. Overall it was pretty cool and just the shell fit me perfectly, but paired with the liner it was just a little too snug for my taste. The fabric is very cool and definitely very waterproof, but it just wasn't what I was looking for.

Enough where it wouldn't be comfortable on a guy, but not skintight by any means (unless you order too small).

I'm looking for a lighter weight hooded fleece or jacket

I'm looking for a lighter weight hooded fleece or jacket that I can wear under my coat or just around the dorm. I found one from The North Face- TKA 100 Masonic Hooded Fleece. Any other suggestions?

It is water repellent for snow and light rain. You will get wet in an all out downpour though.

It's an elastic strap/band that snaps together around your waist snugly, and is at the same time attached to the inside of your coat. It cinches around your waist sort of like a belt. This then keeps the snow/powder from getting in up through your coat. You'll love them, they're quite nice to have. And you don't always have to wear it. If you're using the coat to walk around (leisure) the powder skirt simply attaches to the inside of the coat and stays out of the way.

I am looking to have this jacket replace my super warm columbia brand jacket. Will it do that job? Is it warm enough?

"Warm enough" is very relative. This has 100 grams of insulation, compare this with others you are looking into. I'm sure this will do the trick. Have you looked into down?
