The North Face Rucky Chucky GTX XCR Trail Running Shoe - Men's

The North Face actually calls the Rucky Chucky GTX XCR a Mountain Running Shoe. We don't have a category for that, so we put it in with the Trail Running Shoes and told it to play nice. Designed to meet the needs of the expanding off-road endurance racing crowd, the Rucky Chucky is built like a tank with the heart of a Ferrari. A forefoot Snake Plate, toe cap, and X-2 polymer in the midsole provide protection from sharp rocks and roots, and full-circumference abrasion panels brush off rough treatment like a brick wall. Meanwhile, medial posting maintains stability at high speed on uneven surfaces. Rain and puddles are no match for the Gore-Tex XCR insert, but the Rucky Chucky also uses a wide mesh upper fabric that drains and dries quickly after stream crossing immersions. Tenacious Grip rubber on the outsole keeps you moving forward when everyone around you is losing their edge.

Bottom Line: Blazingly quick in burly terrain.

Good Shoe

This is a good shoe and I have no issue with its performance. However, anyone that might normally wear a half size shoe (size 12.5) could have issues getting a good fit. In most cases, for me, 12 is too small and 13 is too big. However, I bought a 13 because I thought a little more space would be the better option than getting a shoe that was too small. Not with this shoe, there is way too much room in the mid-foot and toe box for my foot. I tried different thicknesses in socks and adjustments with the laces but just couldn't get the fit I like to have in a trail-running shoe. I didn't give up without a fight I put a 100 miles in them...but now I wish I could trade them for a size 12.
