The North Face Chilkats Winter Boot - Men's - 2008
Pull on The North Face Men's Chilkats Winter Boot for chilly nights in Aspen or frozen mornings shoveling the driveway. A durable Winter Grip rubber outsole gives you traction on slick, wet surfaces, and the 200 grams of Primaloft Eco insulation wards off winter's bitter chill down to 25-below. Hook your gaiters to the Chilkats' D-ring attachment when you head out snowshoeing on a powder day. An injection-molded shank plate provides support and stability, and the EVA midsole cushions as you negotiate snow and ice.
Bottom Line: A solid all-purpose winter boot.

Great Boots
By: John Hall
March 9, 2009
Great boots, comfortable for winter hiking and mountaineering, waterproof, and warm. Great for winter but once its gets to the upper 40s and into the 50s these are way to warm for me. But I hiked in snow and below 0 conditions and my feet were never cold and were nice and dry.
We do not currently have any of these boots on vendor order.
Its difficult to say whether we are just waiting to place another order for them, waiting for the newer model(these are 08 model), or are just not going to carry them anymore.

Excellent boot for midwest weather (Ohio)/warm and very waterproof/fits alittle tight but I like that since my foot is thin. I definitely recoimmend.

Jamie,If you select the Dark Earth Brown/TNF Khaki color there is a size 10 in stock. If you husband wears a size 10 going up to a 11.5 would be way too big, dangerous, and uncomfortable. If you want more colors and options in size 10 take a look at the rest of the winter boot selection from North Face. Mahalo, Sumo

I love these boots. They're very comfortable and very warm (sometimes too warm). I don't use them to hike as I have proper hiking boots for that, they'd be fine for short hikes in cold weather. I use them walking around in the snow or on the way to the mountain to ride. I had to buy a pair for my dad, they're that good. So comfortable you'll never want to take them off.

Very warm, very waterproof, great grip, and really comfortable. Work great as standard snow boots. They work decently for cold-weather hiking with or without snow, though they're on the heavy side. Overall, a great boot for the price, definitely recommended.

Look Great but don't Perform

Frankly, these boots, in my humble opinion, suck. As a Vermonter these just dont' make the grade. They are NOT waterproof. My feet are within minutes of being in the snow. They are thus, not warm either. They are great looking boots and definitley light weight which means you can wear them comfortably all day..if of course you plan on being indoors all day. They run a bit on the small side. Truly, I expected much more from North Face. The soles pealed back the rubber cracked the insdie fabric of the boots deteriorated quickly. If you live in the NorthEast, these are not the boots for you!

These boots are flawed
By: Kev Kac
December 16, 2008
I bought a pair and they were great. Very comfortable, warm, and they looked great. However, there is a flaw in their construction as the shoe lace loop broke right off the second time I wore them. They were returned for another pair, and the same thing happened within a week! These boots are not hardy and I'll never go back to Northface for my boot needs.

I have wide feet and these fit me fine by just going up a 1/2 size. The insulation is soft and gives some extra width.

I am considering purchasing this boot, however I am curious about sizing. Are they true to size? Run big? Run small? Any help would be much appreciated.

Hey James, I've found that these run true to size. If you're right on the border of the next 1/2 up I'd take it so you can adjust your sock preference.Hope that helps.

Great Boots until the rubber cracked

These boots arrived timely. They are comfortable. I wore them 5 times through the coldest part of the Chicago winter. I was walking through the snow one day and noticed the boots had cracked on the left boot. I will contact backcountry and see if they will exchange the boots.

Concerned about being comfortable for 10 hours a day. Also how is the moisture inside boot. Does it make feet cold?
By: joe
December 11, 2008
Comfort for 10 hours a day is dependent on the temp. If it's crazy cold I'd probably recommend the Sorel Caribou. If you're just talking about the 30's this boot will be fine. Moisture doesn't seem to accumulate much in them so you should be fine on that end of things.Hope that helps.

I recently purchased these boots for my team that works out in harsh weather conditions for periods of 8 to 10 hours a day. These boots are excellent for these conditions. They are light and feel like you are wearing sneakers instead of boots.

Amazing shoes... pricey but i'm sure they're gonna last long. Have been using them in snow and so far so good. Warm and heavy, as they should be. And shipping from backcountry was awesome. I ordered the 14 day free shipping but guess what, i got them in 7 days... :) this was my first experience with backcountry, and for this one, its definitely a thumbs up... and another thumbs up for the northface shoes. definitely recommended.

Do Chilkats Winter boots come with 400 grams of insulation rather than 200 grams

No, these boots come solely with 200g of insulation (Primaloft Eco). If you're looking for slightly warmer TNF boots with 400g of insulation, consider the McMurdo, Slot GTX, Baltoro 400 II, or Four Shadows GTX.

Love this Boot

The Chilkats. Great name. These boots from The North Face provide the user with un paralleled warmth in the coldest of winters, and the much needed grippiness on icy parking lots. Not really for hiking, but in a ski town in the winter, these are a key asset.
This boot is constructed with a waterproof nubuck/suede upper & TPU (thermoplastic) lower, so it can be considered to be waterproof for most ventures. However, caution should be used in that the seam between the upper & lower in my pair of TNF boots (1 year old) appears to let in small amounts of water if I am wading through frozen streams & puddles (really anytime liquid water repeatedly gets above the seam) for extended periods of time.

Chilkats, the go to boot
By: wxgirl
January 7, 2009
For the holidays I bought my other brother these boots after buying a pair last year for one of them and myself. I like them. They are a basic winter boot, nothing "hardcore" but will be fine for shoveling, getting around town and I even use them snowshoeing and my feet stay dry. They are not super warm if you're not being active...i.e. if you're standing around at a parade and it's 5 F outside your feet will get cold. If you're moving around on a walk, you'll be fine.
