The North Face Ion 20 Backpack - 1200cu in
The North Face Ion 20 Backpack's slim, aerodynamic shape lends itself to trail running and day hikes, but this pack also comes with a padded laptop sleeve for running from class to class. You can take the Ion 20 Backpack to algebra, then ditch your computer at the dorm, swap it with a hydration system, and hit the trails for the afternoon. The North Face's ExoLite back panel and dual-density Airmesh shoulder straps keep air moving and ensure you don't overheat in the middle of the summer.
Bottom Line: Running to class or running your local trails? Bring along The North Face Ion 20 Backpack.

Great Daypack

I was looking for a daypack for moderate length hikes, something to carry water, food, layers, and a camera. This is a perfect daypack. It has a large, well padded hipbelt that takes to weight off of your shoulders with minimal adjustment. The included rain cover is also a great bonus. The lower price on SAC made this purchase a no brainer. Note: I was not able to fit my laptop with a 15" screen in the sleeve since there is a good half inch of plastic between the screen and the edge of the laptop. You may want to measure your laptop if you plan to use this to carry it.

I have a black diamond Bbee and it is 12L and I can fit 2 text books comfortably. If you only have a couple classes you shoudl be able to carry atleast 3 maybe 4 books no problem since this is 20L. But if you have an all day schedule go with something a little bigger. But it is nice to have a waist belt if you bike to class, very handy.

For School and Hikes

This backpack is best for those who want a smaller pack for school that will still work as a pack for day hikes. It fits my 14x10 inch Laptop, 1 text book, and 2 folders but still has what is needed to take it outdoors with chest straps that click into together and as well as the padded waist straps. The shoulder straps are thin and breathable so you wouldn't sweat as much. Your back is separated from the pouch by a stiff, flexible, and malleable board accompanied by foam padding down each side of the spine. It is designed with one main pouch that zips open like any normal backpack with a smaller poach on top of that that zips down the back. There are water bottle pockets on both sides and comes with a waterproof rain cover that collapses small and hides away. This pack is very light in weight; 1lb 14oz. Some might not like this because they may think its too thin and may call it cheap, but it is designed to be light and is very high quality.

Would this be useful for a jogging backpack that can hold a small amount of clothing, shower shoes, and a towel? The main thing I want is comfort, that it does not ride up my back or distract me while running. I might also carry a water bottle. Thanks! Matt B

The pack material itself is coated and waterproof, but the seams are not. It is going to take quite a bit of rain for things to get super wet inside this pack. It is probably pretty easy to track down a rain cover for it if you are in a very wet climate. This would definitely help the waterproofness of this pack:http://www.backcountry.com/store/MOU0123/Mountainsmith-
