The North Face Resolve Jacket - Women's

The North Face Resolve Jacket uses a lightweight mesh lining to keep it from feeling clammy, even in an absolute downpour. The waterproof breathable HyVent DT shell easily withstands the most horrendous rain you encounter on the trail, and it lets water vapor escape so you don't end up drowning in your own sweat. The North Face used a fully adjustable hood to round out the Resolve Rain Jacket's features and ensure you stay bone-dry even in nasty weather.

Bottom Line: Stop worrying about the rain. You have The North Face Resolve Jacket to keep you dry if the weather turns bad.

Great rain jacket

By:
June 8, 2009

I love this jacket. So much that I bought a second one after moving to a very rainy Germany. I now have the brown (two years) and red (five years). It has a great fit adjustments, and I never have problems with the hood. I've taken it spelunking, hiking, climbing, and camping and it's never caught or torn. You would never guess either of them aren't new. They wash well and dry fairly quickly.

My Kelpie Green jacket just arrived. I love the color. My only complaint with this jacket is that the wristbands are a little snug. I bought this jacket as a cheaper replacement to my North Face Venture jacket that I lost last summer. This jacket is nice, but I wish I spent the little bit extra and got the Venture which had adjustable wrists and was slightly longer.

Pretty Sweet Jacket

By:
August 28, 2008

The jacket is quite comfortable and has a very good design so it looks good when you wear it. Make sure you measure yourself correctly before ordering because it tends to ride up. It keeps out water well, but the collar is really warm. I also like that it has tightners at the waist. I can't wait to use it again.

The North Face Resolve Jacket has been a great purchase. It held up to torrential downpours while hiking in Hawaii while staying comfortable and cool. Fits well but can layer underneath it easily for extra warmth. I look forward to getting a lot of use out of this jacket.

How dry I am!!!!!

By:
June 23, 2009

I've had a farm in florida for 22 years and get soaked every afternoon while feeding the horses during rainy season...finally i broke down and bought this rain jacket....It is very light so the first time I wore it i could feel the cool rain hitting me all over and figured yup....another raincoat that doesn't work...but when i took the raincoat off i was totally 100% dry even my hair! wow i am impressed! BTW It's even squishy enough to ball uip and put in my saddlebag for those sudden storms that used to get me totally soaked.

Based on all the reviews, this seems like a great jacket and exactly what I'm looking for. My question is about the fit of this jacket: I have a TNF Denali fleece (as seen on college campuses everywhere, lol) in a size Large. It was given to me as a gift, but I think it's a little big on me and looks sort of floppy. I see from the reviews of the Resolve jacket that some people say to order up, so that would be a Large, I think, since the Large in the fleece seems a bit big on me..? Basically, I'm looking for your thoughts on sizing and, secondly, your thoughts on Backcountry.com's returns/exchanges - if I tried it on and wanted a different size, would an exchange be a big hassle? Thank you!

Good rain jacket

By:
December 29, 2008

I bought this jacket strictly to protect against the windy and rainy days. I also wanted a hood that would come over my face more unlike my Marmot rain jacket that didn't fit over the top of my head thus my face getting wet anyways.

I am short and this jacket hits just below my hips which is good if you wish to wear any type of layer underneath. It is pretty thin but I haven't found myself to be too chilly in it, though if the temp is low I would recommend a base layer fleece or something to help keep you warm.

Nice jacket

By:
June 20, 2009

I liked the feel of this jacket (material wise, it felt less like a plastic sheet for some reason) than the more expensive Venture Jacket by THF. It's a nice jacket with a great cut that flatters. However, the wrists are a bit snug and the jacket is pretty short. If you don't mind your shirts poking out at the hip then it'll serve you well.

Awesome Rain Jacket

By:
April 14, 2008

This is a great lightweight waterproof jacket, and very stylish too! I have the Kelly Green color and it goes with everything! Great for hiking in misty wet weather or just walking around New York city in the rain! However, it is not a cold-weather coat, more for tropical/spring rain than winter. Can't wait to wear it on my trip around the world!

Dry and Sick

By:
November 9, 2008

Just got this jacket and its so cute on. I usually wear a large and the L fit great. NF's sizes are acurate and true. Much more flattering than the older Columbia rain jacket I used in Oregon for many years now. The Brown one is sick! and just like other reviews would have liked it to be a bit longer but still it goes down at least 3/4 of the way past my booty. :)

Hey Griffin,Ahhh, the beauties of marketing:) I don't know that there is really a good reason. They decide what they're going to charge and maybe this is one of those cases where TNF decided to throw two prices in the air and wherever they landed was the price of that jacket. There's no real sense sometimes.

Resolve Jacket

By:
February 17, 2009

I agree with the previous person who posted; it's really thin. It's also very light weight, feels like nothing. I was expecting something a little more insulated, but it gets the job done when it comes to campus life and the unpredictable rainy Oregon weather. I'm 5'5", approx 120 lbs, slightly longer torso and Asian/small build and ordered the XS. I wasn't able to try on a jacket prior to buying it, so I was surprised by how short the jacket is as it only comes down to the top of my hips. One problem I do have with the jacket is the length of the sleeves (I have this problem with most TNF items, so maybe it's just me and my arms); the XS fits fine in the torso but the sleeves are always short (comes down to the bony point of my wrist). The sleeves of S are longer but the rest of the jacket is huge. The jacket is also boxy looking until you cinch in the bottom. The XS was roomy enough for me to wear TNF Pumori fleece jacket underneath (but the Resolve is not a zip-incompatible item). In retrospect, the size S might have been a better choice, since no one likes wet, cold hands when it's raining.

Ditto to other reviews

By:
June 19, 2008

The jacket itself is great; my critiques of it are more cosmetic...it is lightweight and lends itself well to layering, so it can work in any season, and it does breathe well, as well as being waterproof. The hood is annoying because it doesn't stay up on its own in windy weather, and contrary to what another reviewer said elsewhere, I don't think it's necessary to buy a size up--I did, and it looks too baggy on me, so I wish I'd gone with my normal size. It's still a really great rain jacket and overall I'm happy with my purchase!

Just what I was looking for

By:
June 10, 2009

As a college student I was looking for a rain jacket, mostly for hiking, that I could afford with out sacrificing on quality. This was just the thing. I have worn it through a couple good downpours and through a few drizzly days and it has kept me dry; I am very pleased with this jacket.
I do have a few complaints though even if I tightened the elastic the hood is easily blown off if you aren't looking down. Also the sleeves were too long, which is expected because I'm small, but whenever I push them back up to my wrists the lining comes out, introducing moisture to the inside the sleeve. I also regret not getting a jacket with pit zips, they are a must if you anticipate being highly active.

If I'd like to wear a NF fleece under this jacket, would you recommend going a size up? I'd still like the fit to be flattering, but want to use the fleece too. Any advice would be great.

If you're right on the border of sizing up then yes I would size up. If you've got descent space then you'll be fine staying with the same size.Hope that helps.

This is a great jacket. I love the way the hood tucks away into the collar. It certainly repels the rain and is a great windbreaker too. Great for layering.
Highly recommend!

My husband bought me this jacket--It was exactly what I was looking for. After a lot of searching online and in stores, the price is unbeatable and the stores we went to did not have this style (all black and waterproof with a hood.)

It's lightweight and it looks good. It really is the perfect jacket for so many different occasions.

Great Jacket

By:
June 20, 2008

I'm about to use this jacket on a month long trip to Europe. I have worn it around NYC the few weeks I've had it and it's been wonderful in the rain. The only reason I'm giving it 4 stars is because I'm 5'11 and it hits just a little shorter than I wished. It's not really their fault I'm an amazon, but I would really like if this came in the parka length. The price difference between this jacket and the other parka was just too much to warrant.

It can not really be defined by dark or light blue. It is a bold blue. not dark not light. so I guess in those terms it fits more in the middle.

Considerably warm when worn with a sweater. So great, I ordered the Tri-climate for winter. Can't wait for that coat! I know I will be just as pleased.

Amazing Jacket

By:
May 9, 2009

Wow. So I used to have the North Face Venture, and I thought it was the greatest thing since sliced bread...

It does NOT compare to the Resolve. The Resolve's liner enhances the jacket SO MUCH making it immensly more comfortable in rain storms. Of course both jackets are dry, and quality, but because of the liner, in humid, rainy situations, the Resolve doesn't do that clam-y stick to your skin thing that the Venture does.

It's a sharp looking jacket, great quality, and my only regret is that I don't own ANOTHER in red!

If you have tried it on and it fits then go with that size. If you need extra length in the torso, take a look at the venture parka. That will give extra length and coverage if you want.

The jacket I have for work (bought in 2005) falls at my hips, but I'm short (5'1"). So it may be shorter on you if you are taller. I'm guessing the 2008 resolve jacket has the same measurements. If you need extra length, look at the venture parka. Extra length in the torso.

By:

I was very anxious to get this great jacket as I am going fishing n Canada next month and really wanted one that is lightweight and waterproof. Got the jacket on and it fit great until I tried to zip it up!! Unfortunately, designers seem to have forgotten that some of us women have breasts larger than 34A... Had to send it back because I can't shrink and it would not expand...

I have been wearing this every chance I get since I received it and I plan on buying another color for the fall! Thanks Northface, for making another awesome jacket!!

Well, it doesn't have a "bill" on the hood if that is what you mean, but it does come over and forward so that it covers your eyes. It's a bit of a larger hood without being bulky.

I was deciding whether to purchase this jacket versus several other more stylish and more expensive jackets. I chose this jacket because it was a bit more affordable and am happy with the results. I didn't want to spend more than $100 for a jacket that I wouldn't wear that much, but it does it's job. I like the color and fit.
