The North Face Hydrogen Jacket - Men's - 2008
The North Face trimmed absolutely every non-essential feature from the Men's Hydrogen Jacket to shave its weight down to a staggeringly low 3.1oz. The Hydrogen Jacket has no Underarm zips, pockets, or even a hood. In Fact, the hood on your ski jacket weighs more than this whole windbreaker from The North Face. Slip this ultralight wind jacket into your pack so it's at the ready if the weather takes a turn for the worse.
Bottom Line: If The North Face Hydrogen Jacket weighed any less, it would float.

LIGHTEST SHELL EVER

three point one ounces??!!! Better believe it. I only feel warmth and protection when I wear this jacket- no weighty feeling at all. Packs incredibly small for minimalist backpackers, and offers plenty of dryness. Wore this jacket in a considerable rain shower while camping and it kept me totally dry. My zipper was on the CORRECT SIDE-- I don't know what the other reviewer is talking about. FIVE STARS!!!
Water proof is exactly that, water cannot get through the material. Water resistant means the fabric will keep the water out for awhile, but after a long enough, or heavy enough, exposure water may get through. Water resistant fabric is often achieved by a spray coating on an otherwise non-repellant fabric.I sales person once told me that in order to be water proof, the seams of the garment, backpack, tent (whatever) had to be taped as well as the fabric had to be water proof. In answer to this specific jacket - it is water resistant, not waterproof, but this is good info to know the difference.

I saw it too in a store. It is incredibly light, thin and packs in very small size. You can hold it packed in your fist. I have to say that i am a little skeptical as for the shell resistance. How can i be sure that it won't tear when caught on a branch?..
Anyway, i preferred it having a hood. (I have another slightly heavier North Face windbreaker with a hood and is perfect for the belays).
About the zippers one reviewer said, Maybe it was the female version the one you tried. Male and female jackets have always the zippers in opposite sides(!).
Hydrogen Zipper

Tried on a men's Hydrogen jacket at the local The North Face store and found that the zippers in those jackets are on the wrong side. Is that a manufacturing error? Is that the true design and if so, why? Put the zipper on the correct side and I will buy one.
