The North Face Mountain Light Parka - Women's

The North Face made the Women's Mountain Light Parka with Gore-Tex waterproof breathable fabric, so you'll stay dry on your mountaineering adventures. The two-layer Gore-Tex material creates a barrier against wind and water while maintaining breathability, so you can skin through winter storms without getting wet or feeling stuffy. A lower-face protection panel on the removable hood blocks wind and snow. Two vented alpine pockets on this shell keep your pockets available while you're wearing a harness or hip-belt, and the Mountain Light Parka's light weight makes it great for backcountry trips.

Bottom Line: You'll be ready for wet winter storms with The North Face Gore-Tex Mountain Light Parka.

Terrific jacket

By: angelshade2230928 (1)
June 24, 2008

I was in the market for a light, casual everyday jacket which would block out the wind and be waterproof as well. This is my first North Face clothing purchase and I found that the small size had the perfect arm length (most of my jackets are always too long on the arms) and the hip area is form-fitting. I would recommend trying them on at the North Face store for the right fit. My boyfriend thought it was extremely expensive given that it's pretty much a glorified rain jacket. I was thrilled to find it on this site for more than 50% off. Ordering: When I first ordered this from this site, they delivered the wrong product - I got a North Face Black Small Denali Fleece jacket which had the correct labels on the shipping slip, as well as the packaging. I immediately notified them through their chat online service and they shipped out the correct order right away. Customer service was great and returning it was a snap. Pros: Perfect for windy weather as it keeps out the cold. I have yet to test it in rainy weather. The slanted pockets are perfectly located for you to slip your hands in comfortably. There's also a hidden left chest pocket. The zip-in option is great for zipping in a fleece which makes the jacket extra warm. I happen to have a spare fleece from REI that zipped in perfectly. The only thing to watch for is to make sure you hold onto the edge of your sleeves as you take the jacket off, otherwise, your fleece arms will be left hanging inside out and it'll be difficult to put the jacket back on. Also, you won't have access to the two inner pockets once the fleece is zipped in. However, it's perfect for San Francisco where layering is key. Cons: I was laying on a bench with the hood on to block out the sun, and couldn't figure out why the hood was so uncomfortable. Turns out there's a cinch-cord smack-dab in the middle of the back of the hood. The waist cinch cords are located in the front pockets, which you can't help tugging on when you pull stuff out of your pockets. Also, the velcro teeth lining the front of the jacket face out on the left side which is great for not catching on your clothes when you wear the jacket. However, if you hang the jacket on the back of a chair, you'll have to avoid leaning back.

North Face Mountain Light Parka

This is a great-looking jacket with all the right features in all the right places. It is well constructed with quality materials. It performs right up to standard in that it's warm and dry in tough weather. One caveat: I've found with most North Face clothing, sizes run a bit lean. I'm typically on the small side of medium, but this medium just fits me. I prefer outdoor clothing a bit roomier, and I might be tempted to order a size up next time.

Perfect Jacket

The North Face Mountain Light Parka is the very best all-around jacket I've worn them for 15 years & was excited to get a new one. They are so versatile. For more warmth you can zip in the Denali Jacket or a vest. I've kept warm in this jacket in winter weather in Europe, frequent trips to New York, & it's great in rainy weather, too!

great garment

The price was less than a very similar one I saw in a store. It seems a fantastic buy and an amazing jacket. I've only been able to wear it once since it's been so cold in PA but for that walk it was terrific. Maybe it could be a little bit looser around the hips (or I could be a little smaller there,) but the fact that the zip opens both ways almost takes care of it. Also, it began to rain halfway through my walk so I could put up the hood and remain dry around the head and neck. All-in-all, this was an excellent purchase with much to commend it.

What was once a great jacket

By: mary in colorado (1)

I had the same jacket for 9 years and wore it exclusively!! LOVED it. New model has a detachable hood instead of stowaway. Bad move...you cannot cinch the neck so, all heat escapes(40% of body heat). Pit zips moved to front area= loss of valuable storage pockets. Front pockets lined with velcro =shreds silk liner on gloves! Waist cinch placed in front pockets bad move=every time you reach to get items from pockets you pull on/out cinch cords, all while shredding your gloves on velcro. This was a fabulous jacket, very well constructed..now a nightmare to wear and a mere shell of the jacket it once was.Help!!!

Great for travel

By: Anonymous (1)
December 9, 2006

I bought this jacket while planning a trip to England and Scotland. I had wanted one for while and when I desired to visit the UK during the winter, the jacket became a necessity. Before I even landed I knew the jacket was going to be the perfect travel jacket. It is light weight has great zip up pockets, including an almost invisible Napoleon pocket, which was great to prevent from being mugged. The Gore-Tex lining is probably the best feature and it well paid for its' self when those cold winds caught up with me in Scotland. I recommend this jacket to anyone. Especially, if you travel a lot, but its also great to wear everyday. Because, when it's cold I wear mine almost that much.

Excellent jacket

I have had my jacket for about a month and have been very pleased with it. I bought a fleece liner separately and combined, it is a very warm coat. I have a friend who got a non-Gore-Tex North Face jacket which looks similar, but she has had issues with water soaking in so I think Gore-Tex is the way to go.

Warm, but bulky.

By: kimberly - Alabama (6)

I bought this to zip in to my The North Face Gore-Tex Parka. It is warm, but bulky and not feminine form fitting. I would like this jacket much better if its warmth quality was maintained through a less bulky, more form fitting fleece.

Everyone's happy

First semester at college in NYC. Despite coming from Chicago, my daughter was freezing in NYC and wanted a shell to go with a North Face fleece we bought a couple of years ago. Using online help I identified the Mountain Light Parka and had it sent to her. She is thrilled , her two-year-old fleece zipped right in and it fits her perfectly. Rave reviews for style, fit, and most important, warmth!

Beautifull jacket

By: Teresa pg (1)
November 18, 2005

This jacket is very nice and well designed. I got the red one and I love it. It really keeps me dry, Gore-Tex is magic!!!. My only recommendation is; if you are planning to get a fleece jacket to wear as inner shell, get the inner shell one size smaller because if the two jackets are the same size the inner shell doesn’t fit very well.

Great jacket

As the title says, this is a great jacket. It’s very light, good for fall rainy weather also. It protects from rain but doesn't suffocate you like some of the rain-prove jackets can.

Dry and warm

This pant is a little thin, so plan to wear thermal underneath. Other than that, it will keep you very dry and warm.
