Great Jacket Great Service

I bought the Aconcagua down jacket and am very happy with it. Where I live, winter is not that cold (usually not less than 5 degrees celsius), so the Aconcagua is perfect for that. It's very light, not bulky and keeps me warm all the time. This site's service is also great. I had everything as expected and even more. The jacket arrived perfectly and timely. I will definitely buy again. Thanks, Hernan.

My son LOVES this jacket. As far as the company and their customer service goes -- they go above and beyond to keep their customers satisfied. I have never in my life been treated with such honest caring people, as the staff have been. You guys are excellent. I will definitely be back shopping again very soon.

The BOMB!

By: ColdNatured (1)
February 21, 2008

This jacket is perfect for really cold days in the southeast. Teens to 30s and this jacket is right at home. I would go for the 700 fill if any colder. This jacket is better than I could have ever hoped. One inside pocket, cloth lined collar so your neck isnt against cold nylor, and just plain warm. Watch the nylon as it is pretty thin. I expect to use this as my primary for many years to come!

You can do better

Overall, this jacket was decent. It wasn't as warm as I expected it to be, it doesn't zip in to any shells, and the cuffs are made very poorly. The cuffs are made with cheap elastic that got all stretched out a week after I had it and began to let in cold air, since there is no way to tighten them up. And so...back it went, and I found something else that was better.

Slightly Flimsy

I bought this as a gift for my husband. Not as hearty as I was expecting, and more boxy through the body than the website photo makes it look. We returned it for a heavier jacket. The quality was fine, but it just couldn't stand up to the protection of a thicker jacket.

TNF ACONCAGUA IS AWESOME!!!

By: Matt O (2)
December 9, 2007

I bought this jacket to be my main winter jacket and I am extremely impressed. TNF definitely knows how to make a quality jacket. I was a little concerned about getting the jacket with the lowest down fill as I'm a "bigger is better" type. I tried on the Nuptse, but it was too bulky, and the fabric repeatedly got stuck in the zipper. No such issues with the Aconcagua. It's not bulky at all and let me tell you, this jacket will handle ANYTHING that a Texas winter can throw at me. It's light enough so that I don't get hot but keeps me toasty when I'm out in the cold. I'm 6' 1" 165 lbs, and the large fits me like a glove. I love this jacket!

Perfect Fall Jacket

By: Gi-rant (3)
November 9, 2007

I go to school in Eastern Washington and have been desperate to find a warm jacket. I was looking for a good all around down jacket that would keep me warm in the fall and winter, without being too hard core (extremely high fill)--I found it. The 550 fill has been perfect for cold nights (in the low 30s) and even during the day when it gets about 50. In class, it is comfortable to leave on (I don't get too warm). The only way you notice it's cold outside is by the feeling of the parts of your body not protected by this beast of a jacket. I don't have any experience yet with it in truly cold weather, but so far it's been perfect. I wouldn't recommend it for rain, however--they nylon shell will allow the down to get drenched. Besides, there's no hood on this bad boy. It's got a sweet look to it, too. Be prepared for countless compliments. Highs: Perfect fill, good build, looks great, killer price Lows: Might be too light for frigid weather, not meant for rainy days (that's what a rain jacket is for, anyway)

1st Down purchase

By: Cizno67 (1)
March 5, 2007

1st purchase with Backcountry, service good. 1st down jacket purchase, product average. Jacket hasn't been put to the test, yet. Good so far in dealing with the urban jungle eastcoast winter. Pretty toasty, decent job of wind resitance. Wish it had an inside zipper pocket. Only drawback so far is that I've noticed it has already started to lose some of the down. Jacket is about 2 months old. Defintely recommend Backcountry, losing patience with North Face, time to try another manufacturer.

Awesome looking and very useful

By: Anonymous (1)
January 20, 2007

All I wanted to say was this Aconcagua Jacket is simple and elegant looking. You will never have to look like a rapper when you want to put on a down jacket, thanks to the Aconcagua. It's lightweight, warm enough for most weather conditions, except for the extreme cold conditions. But then there are just a few days of the year when I really need something that warm, like a Nuptse, but at most other times, I will feel embarrassed to wear that Nuptse for (1)like a rapper (2) overkill with the warmness. So you judge which one will be utilizing more, which one has more value for your money

January 17, 2007

I bought this jacket for my fiance for christmas...He loved it!! I did read previous reviews about the jacket not appearing as puffy as in the picture, and that was true. It is lightweight, but very warm. It was delivered in a bag and I thought it was going to be a very thin jacket, but when you take it out of the bag, it bulks up. Great winter coat!!

Cool jacket, cooler liner

By: sfogli (2)
January 17, 2007

Around town it is a great jacket when temps drop down into the high 20's low 30's. This jacket with my tri-climate shell kept me toasty down in Big Bear in -7 temps. If you're thinking about using this as a liner it is a bit big (xl shell, xl liner) and the zipper on my shell tend to get snagged in the wind flap. Also an interior pocket would have been cool. Overall a pretty good jacket.

I was very pleased! I also have the Aconcagua vest. As written in other reviews, not too bulky, feather weight, I was a bit skeptical, but after wearing it, it's amazing how warm you can get. Not as bulky as the Nuptse. Seattle just got dumped with snow, and I've been wearing this jacket, and I've had no problems. Ordering was a snap. Very smooth transaction!

Where has this been all my life?

By: Kevin V (2)
January 6, 2007

I didn't want a Nuptse because it was just too much coat for where I'm at and what I do. I am extremely pleased with this jackets construction, features and ability to keep me warm in last nights rain/30 mph @ 30 degrees F storm. The only thing I don't like is there is no pocket on the inside. But that isn't a big deal at all. I had originally bought a Mountain Hardware Chugach jacket, which was structured oddly and fit me like a garbage sack. This jacket has a bit more loft and is a better fit and more stylish. Overall, definitely an excellent insulation layer and/or lightweight shell.

Good Jacket

By: RyanRocketCT (1)
January 6, 2007

It looks good and feels fluffy, kinda like having a quilt on you. I recommend it with a The North Face fleece as well, cause anything below 40-45 degrees your gonna start to get cold. So either layer this one or wear it when it's not wicked cold out. It's stylish, got lots of compliments. Hot guys wear The North Face, remember that!

North Face Aconaugua Jacket

By: Lonny (1)
December 11, 2006

North Face makes the best cold weather gear in the world, in my humble opinion. Look at the people who climb Mt. Everest, a lot of them use The North Face gear. I just spent 8 days in the Arkansas Ouchitas. It got down to the lower 20's at night. My North Face jacket kept me warm and....dry! As did my North Face gloves and beanie. A+++

North Face

By: Tom Pants (1)
December 11, 2006

I have ordered two The North Face items and both were exactly what I expected. I'm an old guy, [Fifty!] and first purchased a north face down vest thirty two years ago, in Winter Park, Colorado. That vest is as usable today as it was back in 1974. It has seen countless ski runs and has had dozens of beers spilled on it. Thanks for selling quality stuff like The North Face at reasonable prices and great delivery times.

Not for extreme cold

By: revel22 (2)
November 10, 2006

Jacket is very light and not bulky. For the price I paid of $105 it was a decent deal. I can use it in my North Face GoreTex shell as a liner also. That being said, this jacket is not for temps below, say, 20 degrees. When you sit in the car the down flattens at all touch points like back, arms, etc. and a cold spot develops immediately. If you need something warmer like I do in Minnesota for most of the winter, then skip this jacket if you are going to wear it alone. Maybe get the Nuptse instead.

Aconcagua jacket rocks!

By: cliffboy88 (1)
October 18, 2006

I don't want to "over-hype" this jacket just because I bought it (you know how people subconsciously justify their purchases) but let me say that I am totally satisfied with the Aconcagua. It's very well made as far as the seams and stitching are concerned, the fit is great and it's ridiculously lightweight. I thought of getting the Nuptse which has 700 fill down but I'm glad I went with the lighter 550 fill of the Aconcagua which I feel makes it more versatile and less bulky. I recently wore it to NYC on a business trip. The morning was quite chilly and then warmed up considerably by the afternoon. When the sun came out I took off my jacket and packed it inside my messenger bag next to my laptop because it compresses so easily. Mostly I like this jacket because it just feels so comfortable unlike many other puffer jackets I've owned. Light, warm and comfy. My wife bought one too, by the way.

Aconcagua Jacket

December 31, 2005

I bought the jacket for my son for Christmas. He loved the jacket, I thought it might not keep him warm because of the weight of the jacket, but so far it has kept him quite warm. I originally had bought an XL, but upon arrival I realized it was too big. Your staff were very helpful in deciding how to return and get a new jacket in time for Christmas. Thank you for a good product and great staff.

This jacket was pure sweetness. I took it to the Ukraine in freezing rain and snow, and it managed not only to keep me warm but I stay comfortable in my home town of Memphis also. Just a warning for those who’ve never seen the jacket away from the internet it isn’t as thick as it looks, but it dos the job.

Aconcagua Jacket

October 20, 2005

I love this jacket. It’s very light and very warm. Plus all the down stays in one place instead of leaving uninsulated spots like other down jackets I’ve had. Also, I was going to purchase it off The North Face website and found it on your website for $20 cheaper. Thanks a bunch.
