The North Face Alliance Jacket - Men's
If your winter outfits usually include a touring backpack or a climbing harness, grab The North Face Men's Alliance Jacket. This durable softshell's waterproof breathable fabric fights the elements, and high-placed alpine pockets won't be blocked by your waist-belt. The Alliance Jacket's pitzips, plus core vents in the two alpine pockets, help you dump heat on your ascent. A removable hood with a lower-face protection panel keeps your head and face dry during winter storms, and The North Face Alliance softshell's standard fit leaves room for a few layers underneath.
Bottom Line: The North Face Alliance Jacket goes well with ski touring backpacks, mountaineering backpacks, and climbing harnesses.

This jacket has served me well in light spring rain showers, but it seems that it would do fine in heavier rain also. However one of the biggest things that is keeping the jacket from being rated as "5 stars" is the small, not very hefty zippers. They are #5 YKK brand and in my honest opinion should be #8 or #9. (the higher the number the stronger, and larger the zipper) Also standard style front pockets would a welcome addition to the already present chest pockets. The high collar is a great feature.

I wanted a good shell that could fight off the rain and keep me dry. The armpit zippers are great, for when temps aren't very cold. Where I live, it tends to be wet a lot and the temperature varies a lot throughout the year. I recently wore it while helping my neighbors evacuate during a recent flood, and the shell performed better than expected even without the hood. There is an extra zipper for adding a layer, and it does fit on the large size for that reason. The price isn't that bad when you want quality. A good outershell is worth every penny.

Am yet to try it out in the cold (winter isn't here until June) but it's pretty versatile and will breathe well. It would be better if the hood could be rolled into the collar but in short, the jacket is cosy, fits nicely and easily adjustable. Just one thing - check the size chart closely. I normally wear L size clothing but the M fitted me.

For the money, this is a great shell. It holds up to the weather, and gets the job done. It does get a little chilly in the arms when it is colder. A long sleeve shirt took care of that. Great movement all around and durability.

is not a winter jacket, need to add the Denali, cause it won't stand below 40 without a layer, but is a good jacket just think about that,i just changed for the Inlux.

The North Face has done a great job with the Alliance jacket. Not only is it stylish, but it's functional as well. The jacket fits wonderfully and is very comfortable. Complete with pit-zips, removable hood that zips and buttons, zip-in compatibility with certain fleece jackets (i.e. TNF Denali Fleece), and plenty of pocket space, this jacket has everything you need. The quality is wonderful, and the price makes this jacket so much sweeter. The jacket is comfortable to wear by itself for those April showers, but still roomy enough to layer or zip-in your favorite fleece and hit the slopes. Overall, I'm very pleased.

You can't beat this shell for the price. I used it skiing and it kept me dry all day long. For added warmth you can zip in an extra layer. A+!

Nice looking jacket. Good fit. Like the removable hood. Could be a few more features, including ties or extensions on the zippers to make them easier to use while wearing gloves. Pitzips are great. Neck / chin protection when fully zipped not the most comfortable on the market. Good jacket for the price. Could be a great jacket with a few additional features.

I bought this shell for my boyfriend and he couldn't be happier. He already had a 200 weight The North Face fleece that zipped into this shell jacket perfectly. Very warm even without fleece zipped in but nice to have the fleece when it's below zero. Highly recommended, but wish they had some different color choices.

First, let me give a round of applause for this site's tech help. You guys rock! I called wanting to know about several jackets as I negotiated what could handle the sometimes volatile weather of Alaska. The techs got my sizing, picked a guy in the tech department that matched me, and went through all the jackets. This made the choice a simple one, and they did a bang up job in picking a great one for me. The Alliance is not fitted but relaxed (however it has almost a fitted look about it, but plenty of room for movement). I can easily layer my TNF windstopper fleece under this jacket. I also have room for a fleece top and under shirt. Toasty is not the word! The sub zero weather will be much easier to manage now. Rain, snow, and cold...this jacket can take it. The pit zips and other vent spots dump heat when needed (the zips don't rub against you wrong like some do). The over sized pockets are awesome for backpacking. They feel great in the inside as well. The thin liner in the jacket is soft and comfortable. A draw string easily battens down the hatches of this jacket so none of the cold stuff finds it way up your back. The collar is nice and soft for the neck. It guards the neck well. The adjustable cuffs make arm length a no issue. The hood is both zip and button. The zipper of the jacket is fluent and does not get hung up. Great looking jacket that is fit for Alaska!

The product came right on time and fit my fleece, although it did take a little jiggling to get one of the zippers to work, although now it works great. The jacket did have a faint odor of smoke, however.

This jacket is awesome. The two pockets on the front are very big and great for when you are wearing the jacket with a pack. Another nice addition to this jacket are the ventilation zippers under the armpit. This jacket keeps you warm and if you are going to be in colder conditions you can zip in a liner. Awesome product.

Looks nice, keeps you warm or vice versa depending on whats more important to you. I rate it a 4 outta 5 only because its a little pricy. Wait for your favorite color and you''ll be satisfied.

The alliance is probably one of the best jackets I have brought ever. Its very light weight and easy to move around in. It keeps me warm and it’s just nice to have omni not saying it'll keep you warm in below zero degree weathers, but it'll keep you warm for the most of it.
