The North Face Varius Guide Jacket - Men's
Thanks to waterproof breathable HyVent fabric, The North Face Varius Guide Jacket keeps you dry as you ski, climb, or hike. This jacket's flexible fabric stretches in key areas to allow maximum freedom of movement on hairy technical ascents and descents, and underarm vents keep the sweathog factor under control. The Varius Guide Jacket's removable hood protects your head during winter storms, and a lower-face panel keeps your chin dry. Two front pockets warm your hands, and The North Face Varius Jacket's adjustable cuffs block cold air without cutting off your blood-flow.
Bottom Line: The North Face Varius Guide Jacket gives you all-weather protection on the hill and in the backcountry.

i wear a north face denali size large.what size do i need for the north face varius to make it zip in compatible
Flag
I'm pretty sure that it would have to be a large. I tried zipping a medium into my amplitude shell. the zippers are the same, so it does zip, but the medium was about an inch and a half short of zipping up the whole way at the collar.

Excellent coat for many reasons. 1) The material is VERY durable. I crashed my bike and skidded across the pavement for a few feet and the jacket only developed one very small hole, and that was only through the outermost layer. The North Face was able to excellently repair the hole, and now it is indistinguishable from the original material in both looks and weather resistance. 2) Speaking of weather resistance, this coat will do a very good job of keeping you dry and fairly warm. This jacket is only a thick shell, extra insulation IS NEEDED for wintersports like downhill skiing. This jacket was made with this in mind as it features zip-in compatibility. Personally, I zip in a Redpoint jacket for insulation in the winter, and the result is a bomber coat that is really warm and comfortable without extra bulk and weight. 3) The jacket looks awesome. This is not one of the North Face's flashy, glitzy, ski-bunny styled pieces of apparel. This is a serious jacket, made for people who want to brave the elements, and the jacket's appearance reflects that.
This fabric, when comparing to other coats, is not the slippery nylon feel of many waterproof fabrics. Rather, this is a thicker, rougher texture. As a result, the jacket is much more durable. HOWEVER, water does not simply bead off this jacket like wax paper. In fact, the fabric actually gets pretty wet on the outside, and it takes a little while to dry. Inside, though, you will never have to worry about getting wet. Overall, This is an AWESOME coat for someone looking for a durable, weather proof shell that works great when layered in winter, or as a stand-alone in spring/fall.

I spoke with a representative online as wanted to purchase an all-weather jacket that was of the utmost quality and was directed towards the Varius Guide as a shell .. the gentleman online knew his stuff!! I've worn my jacket to work with a wool sweater underneath in windy and snowy conditions and it has held up superbly. It is the best purchase I have made in a long time. It is well made, seems extremely durable, and surprisingly warm, in below freezing weather you will need a fleece or a sweater underneath but an excellent product. WORTH EVERY PENNY!!!!!

This seems to be a nice jacket except for one major problem - tiny armholes. I bought a large which comfortably fits me in every area except the armholes, which are tiny and uncomfortable. I don't have big arms and at first I thought I just got a bogus jacket, but then I see that someone else has had written on the same issue. There is no way I could zip in a fleece liner or even wear a thick sweat shirt with this jacket. I'll have to return it and look at something else.

I am pretty satisfied with the Varius guide jacket. It is a nice coat for the price, but the hy vent zippers under the pits are somewhat annoying. I read that they were annoying, buy I am still glad I bought the coat. I bought an xxl even though I am an xl in most jackets except for North Face. Which always seems to run small, but it is pretty big without a fleece underneath. But if I zip in a fleece I wouldn't want it to be an xl. The only other negative is the colors North face had this year. I got the basin blue which is very blue. I didn't care for any of the colors they were offering so I thoght this was the best one. In any case I really like the jacket and it seemed to be a good deal for the price.

Got this for a trip to Ireland since I was going during Winter/Rainy Season. Not only did it keep me dry, but it also resisted a lot of wind and kept me warm when we were hiking up a couple mountains. Highly recommend this coat. Will have it for a long time.

I purchased this jacket to use as an outer layer on snowshoe outings here in the San Juan Mtns of Colorado. I wear it over a light or mid-weight fleece and capilene 3 base layer. I am amazed at how comfortable I am this way. Although the jacket is not insulated, I have been completely comfortable in cold, windy situations with wind chill as low as -25F. The quality is excellent, like all of the other products I have purchased from The North Face.

I purchased my new Varius Guide Jacket from you guys after trying one on at a local merchant. The price was right and the coat was delivered within a few days. I liked the selection of coats online and the speedy service. The coat fits great and I would definitely order other items from your website.

I have worn my new North Face coat many times since buying it. It is extremely flexible for a variety of conditions or just hacking around town. Great value and great company to buy. I will be back to shop again.

I ordered the Varius Guide Jacket as a waterproof shell for my Denali Fleece Jacket. But this jacket is warm by itself as it blocks out wind as well. I am very satisfied with the service and the jacket

My Boyfriend absolutely loves this jacket. We were a bit worried about the color and how it would look compared to how we saw it on the internet, but everything worked out perfect. On the online live chat team is GREAT! They were very helpful.

Left my inner fleece on a pretty cold day on Mt. Hood but in a long sleeve shirt and t over it was still warm. This jacket is lightweight, weather proof, has great style and a nice fit. And it didn't cost some outrageous amount like they're charging for "technical" ski jackets (that's gotta' be some real technology that goes into a jacket that costs over 300!?!) And to the folks at BC.C thanks for all your help and hard work. Love it.

I usually use this jacket with a North Face 200 weight fleece zipped into it and am confortable to temperatures down to around freezing. This weekend, I went skiing and it was 15 degrees (-3 with windchill) so I decided to replace my 200 fleece with my 300 weight denali. I stayed nice and warm, and was never cold in those frigid temperatures. Being made of HyVent, not goretex, I was a little worried about the wind coming through, but it preformed great, and I felt no wind.
I love the pit zips and powder skirt that this jacket had. **Also, this jacket has 2 hand pockets which many other North Face jackets don't have. This jacket is cut a little shorter than most other TNF jackets.

I purchased the North Face Varius Guide Jacket in XXL. Everything about this jacket was great except for one thing...the arm holes were so small that it was not possible to wear it comfortably (this was without a fleece liner that actually worsened this situation). My upper body physique is thin to average. This jacket should have fit. It was necessary to return it.

This is a 2-layer (TNF calls this Hyvent) shell to fit over the Denali fleece or Nuptse jacket to give you wind and water protection and an extra layer of warmth.
What surprised me when I received it was how exceptionally well it was constructed. A quick look over how it was pieced together really is impressive. That's what you get for a $200 jacket, besides the fact that Gore-Tex is an expensive material (because of the PTFE aka Teflon) which makes all technical shells around this price.
Some of the color schemes aren't my cup of tea (though you can't go wrong with the classic blacks, blues, or greys) and maybe it's not as stylish as say a Spyder jacket, but it does it's job well and is really well made.

This jacket has been with me through thick and thin and i'm surprised about its performance. Sure, its exterior may look a little thin, but once you get your body heat into this thing, it WILL NOT escape :)

I have this jacket and in the dead of winter either use a 200# fleece or the synthetic down liner....It has worked in sub-zero temps and that was before the wind chill. Blizzards.. HAH!

Good for the price and it held up for a years of skiing, but when it is cold you need a liner.

I bought three of these jackets for my teenage sons, two who are in college and didn't want the bulk of a heavy winter jacket. The Guide jacket is warm, lightweight, good-looking and extremely durable. It has kept the boys dry during this very wet winter. A fleece fits well underneath for very cold days, though the boys have yet to double-up. The Guide jacket alone keeps them warm, even with temperatures in the 20s!

I got the Various Guide Jacket in the Clay Indian Red/Grey Color, and it looks great. Looks good with black pants and combined with my Denali Jacket, it makes for a really good, warm, waterproof jacket.

This jacket is pretty fantastic. I was hoping it would fit a little tighter though. It is extremely warm for a shell and has been keeping me cozy and dry since I got it. Highly recommended.

I purchased the North Face Varius Guide Jacket because of its ability to stretch for athletic activities as well as its feature to be able to zip in a fleece for colder weather. I have not tried it out yet in cold weather due to the fact that we have not had any yet, but just trying it on and wearing around the house, it was real nice.

I ordered the Varius Guide Jacket in the blue ribbon/gray. When I received it I thought it had more purple in it than gray. I did not like the color. Fit was not quite as good as I imagined it would be but it's inexpensive so I didn’t expect much. I exchanged it for the Mountain Light parka. Now that's a nice jacket!

I love the jacket, as an everyday jacket. But the style is a bit too fitted for a snowboard jacket. I guess it just don't have the boarder attitude. Other than that, it's great. It's really warm and feels nice on me.

This jacket is great for all around weather protection. It keeps you dry and is totally windproof.
It won't keep you warm alone, so when it gets really cold layer a fleece under it, which should be more than enough.
