The North Face Mountain Light Jacket - Men's
The North Face Men's Mountain Light Jacket is a waterproof breathable shell that has your back when it's you versus the elements. The Gore-Tex Pro Shell fabric keeps you dry during your skiing, climbing, hiking, and traveling adventures. Two core pocket vents help cool things off when you're working hard. The removable hood and lower face-protection panel keeps your noggin and chin dry throughout rainy, snowy weather.
Bottom Line: Wet winter storms have nothing on The North Face Gore-Tex Pro Shell Mountain Light Jacket.

is the lining on the mountain guide jacket a zip out lining? what is the major difference between the mountain guide jacket and the mountain guide light jacket?

No, the mesh liner does not zip out. You can zip in other, lighter jackets from North face in to this jacket. I'm not sure the difference between the mountain light and Mountain guide.

This is the perfect jacket for wet conditions. The price was too good to pass up and I'm glad I didn't. I have to be outside in some nasty weather and with this jacket I know I will always be dry.

I just replaced my 1995 TNF Mountain Light Jacket with this beauty here. I love the collar, extra interior pocket, and extra exterior pockets. However I miss the true pit zips, large interior pocket, and waist sinch. Overall a great overall jacket.

Went to Keystone 2 weeks ago and the temp was around 5-10F and felt like negative on my face but the Parka kept me dry and warm with just a North Face down vest zipped in... Definitely recommend to all and make a note this is a little longer than the standard jacket and perfect length so it covers the bum from getting cold and wet when you fall or take a sit...

Great shell -would recommend a light zip-in for extreme cold but definitely great for all around temps...

I bought this jacket to replace my old Mountain Light jacket that I have had for about 7 years. The new version is great. I feel it is warmer than my previous jacket and I like the fact that there are now hand pockets in the front. The hood is smaller than my previous jacket but shields the wind and elements in the same way. In the rain and wind the jacket is great and does what it is supposed to do. I layer it with an apex bionic jacket. The only complaint I have and it is very minor, I wished that they would have put bungee strings on the zippers for easy access and that the core vents were bigger, otherwise it is a great jacket. Excellent service from this website, the jacket arrived exactly when they said it would.

This jacket was excellent price and features the gore pro shell in the body which is an upgrade in breathability over standard gore tex. however, it does not have pit zips and is a bit heavy for anything but winter/cold weather use.

First of all, this site is awesome with answering questions, shipping and returns.
As for the jacket, I was disappointed. This is a great fashion jacket but not a technical shell in my opinion. The Gore-Tex Pro material is a bonus at this price, especially now that it is being discounted by most retailers. However, it is heavy and does not pack very easily. The biggest complaints I have are regarding the hood design, lack of pit zips and poor quality zippers. The hood does not move as you turn your head and the brim does not extend far enough. Not having pit zips in a technical shell simply does not make sense, you definitely need them when the temp rises above 40F. And lastly, the main zipper is difficult to engage at times. I think North Face needs to redesign a lot of their garments. I will be returning this jacket and buying something from Outdoor research or Marmot.

This is my second The North Face mountain light jacket. The first mountain light I had was from 2001 Summit Series. This newer one is a much better design than that one: the hood is more snug, only thing I miss is the vertical Napoleon pockets from the old not that is not on this one. Overall, both of my mountain lights.

I purchased this jacket for everyday use and it is wonderful! It fits true to size.If you want a jacket that is wind resistant this is the one. I am very pleased with this purchase!! I also bought a khumba fleece to zip into it for a bit more warmth. Highly recommended!!!

Great jacket. It's prefect for cool days and keeps me completely dry. It's pretty light as well. I bought a zip-in fleece to go along with it(fleece and Jacket are Size Large). I was worried about room once I zipped in the liner, but it was not a problem. Pit zips would be nice, but for the sale price I got it for, I can't complain.

This jacket has a lot of things going for it: it's a 2L Gore Tex, so it's completely wind- and waterproof, and very breathable. Some of the reviews mention pitzips, which it DOES NOT HAVE. The Mountain Light has vents on the chest (which some people have perhaps simply mislabeled), that I personally prefer, but for some reason many people have a curious obsession with pitzips. Some of the reviews also mention velcro closure on the pockets, which it also DOES NOT HAVE. I'm not sure where this got started, the only thing I can think is that someone reviewed the incorrect jacket. It does have velcro along the front zipper, as it is not waterproof. Also, the zipper tends to stick when zipping it up, but this is symptomatic of the design, and not a flaw in the individual jackets--I know because several people mentioned this issue in their reviews, and I went to REI to test them in person. It isn't bad enough to return the jacket, in my estimation, but that's a personal preference. Overall, the jacket seems durable, functional, and versatile. However, it is quite heavy, and does not pack very small; I suppose "small" is all relative, but I expected more. You can zip in a mid-layer (I use my TNF Redpoint jacket--which is a fantastic jacket, stay away from the Denali fleece), but I find the fit is less constricting when you just wear it underneath and don't zip it in; I feel a bit bulky when I zip in the Redpoint as opposed to just layering it. My Patagonia Jetstream packs much smaller, is much lighter, has waterproof zippers, pitzips instead of vents on the chest, a more ergonomically designed hood, came with a better selection of colors, and was cheaper. All in all, a better shell than this one, but this one will get plenty of use as well, though when I'm packing light I will go with the Jetstream instead of this one. For the sizing, the Mountain Light fits like everything from TNF that I have tried. I am 6'0"/165 lbs, and wear a Medium from TNF, Marmot, and Patagonia.

Bought this jack through the web since it is not available from stores in the Netherlands, although completes the full range of other Gore-Tex gear available from TNF.
It is a great buy, top quality. The jack fits perfectly, with TNF XXL really is XXL. Withstands all conditions.

This jacket does what it's supposed to do and does it well. It's light and it packs small, and with a zip in, it can work for any season. Also, the hood is one of the best fitting on any jacket I have owned. It doesn't cover your face, and can be adjusted so it will turn with your head. *** Responding to the review by Shams, my jacket does not have velcro on the pockets, only zippers.***

The 2L Gore-tex Mountain Light Jacket is superior quality. It is fantastic at keeping wind out and I recently wore it out in sub-freezing temperatures without layering and it worked fine. However, below about 20 degrees, layering enhances this jacket to be a fantastic winter coat. Add to that the waterproofness of the gore-tex membrane and you have an amazing product. I am thoroughly pleased.

Website says it has pit zips, even some reviews mention pit zips, and I specifically ordered this jacket because I need pitzips in all my shells. This jacket arrived with no pit-zips. Hard to sing the praises of a jacket when one of the main features is missing.

I live in the Texas Panhandle where, surprisingly, it can be 80 degrees one day in December and then 27 the next. This light weight jacket is so versatile and perfect for any condition. This is my first Gore-Tex shell and it has lived up to my expectations. I love the fact that I know I'm protected in any weather. I've used it in the rain and can't wait for my first ski trip this year.Very light Downsides: no pit zips (but it does have front vent pockets that I'm sure will work fine); light on pockets; loud.

High quality. Well worth the cost. Goes great with my Nuptse Jacket. Only drawback is no pit-zips.

A good utilitarian parka which will work in a variety of temperatures and conditions. Zip-in feature for fleece and other mid-layers adds versatility. Fit is as expected although slightly shorter than most rain parkas. All in all, another solid product from The North Face.

It seems very good to me, good anatomical structure, freedom of movements and position.
Not yet the very frequent use since it 's beginning the summer seasons in Baghdad, Iraq.
Thank you very much

The shell is extremely well made, but I am a big guy with a broad chest (size 46 suit jacket) and the XL was unusually tight across the chest. All my North Face liners, and jackets are XL and they fit just fine. All in all though, I love the flexibility of the shell and find it very comfortable in below freezing temperatures with only the Redpoint Jacket underneath.

This jacket is very comfortable and lightweight. I bought it because of its Gore-Tex lining and also because I don't go ice climbing that often and wanted a jacket I could use for other situations (camping, everyday wear, skiing) as well. I already have a 3L Gore-Tex Jacket (Arc'Teryx Theta AR) that I used as a comparator - for better or for worse. Overall, I like this jacket. Hood could be better for contouring and adjustability, as well as the way the zipper hook and loop closure works. It is hard to zip up the jacket and also get into the pockets at times because of this, but you do get used to it. Handwarmer pockets are also a bit tight, but nice to have them where they "should" be instead of up higher. Cut is nice for layering and the jacket does take compatible fleece zip-ins except my down TNF Nuptse jacket, which I don't understand. 1 side zips in but not the other. All in all a very decent value as it seems harder to find actual Gore-Tex 2L jackets these days. Compared to the Arc'Teryx, the Arc'Teryx wins hands down on overall fit and finish plus ergonomics, but the Mountain Light was a tad bit more comfortable and I find myself wearing it a bit more now than my original (but still highly cherished) Theta AR.

I bought this jacket for my husband to go snowmobiling. He was looking for something to keep him dry and warm without being to bulky so that he can wear his back pack. He also needed a jacket that would fold into his backpack when it gets to warm. I asked a backcountry expert to choose a jacket, this is the one that was recommended. I am totally satisfied with this product and recommend it to others.

It was well below freezing with winds gusting to 40 mph. Fortunately, I had a strong tripod and some excellent cold weather gear.
I spent three hours out in the cold wind taking photographs of some of the most amazing sights I've ever seen.
The Mountain Light Jacket sheltered me from the cold wind. Earlier in the day, it protected me from the snow and driving rain.
One complaint would be that the hand pockets need some refinement. The zippers on both sides often get caught in the fabric. North Face can fix it by securing the fabric away from the edges of the zipper.
One thing I really appreciate about the jacket is its versatility. A liner can be easily zipped into the jacket (e.g., the Denali). The pit zippers and wrist cuffs are all well-designed. The hood can be removed but works well just lying flat. The pull strings to adjust the hood aren't glove-friendly but I like the fact that they're small and out of the way.
Overall, it's an excellent jacket. I may long for another camera or a bigger lens but my jacket is one piece of the gear I don't have to worry about.

I'm 6'2" 190 lbs. and I bought the large size, fits perfect. I am able to wear this jacket to about 20 degrees comfortably. When it drops below that I zip-in my The North Face Denali softshell and I have worn that in 0 degree weather (not including windchill factor). I use this jacket for snowboarding and it allows me plenty of room to move, and I can strap-in standing up without the jacket riding up my back and allowing cold air in.

This jacket is one of my most versatile ski jacket. I wear this jacket 3 out of the 4 seasons. I wear it as a rain jacket in the spring, a light jacket in the fall and I ski all year in it by layering underneath to compensate for the changing temperatures. This was the 1st The North Face shell I had ever bought & it has meet every need I've had for it.

Great jacket with two top names, The North Face and Gore Tex. In a down pour I didn't get wet at all, but I tested the jacket to the limits. I wore it while doing moderately strenuous activity in 90 degree heat on a sunny day to test how breathable it was; it failed but, hey I didn't expect it to match my perspiration level, no jacket could that is waterproof. My shirt was soaked underneath, but I still think the the jacket is great for what is is made for (alpine sports)

I purchased this jacket about a month ago, so I am still breaking it in. They discontinued this style so get them before there gone. I have used it skiing a couple of times and it is great for being windproof. It will hold up for snow and wet weather. It is a very light jacket so don't think your getting a heavy one. This is a jacket that you layer yourself in. Great for wicking sweat to with the vents they have. You can't go wrong with XCR.

Very light very comfortable and you can fold it up into a tiny square so it doesn't take up space. the XCR makes a pretty big difference in comfort. And it does what a Gore-Tex jacket is supposed to. However it has some quirks that prevent it from being a perfect shell. The pockets have VELCRO on them as well as a zipper, but its extremely annoying to have to open your pocket to put your hand in it every time because the VELCRO closes it each time you take your hands out. I'm actually going to try to take the VELCRO off when I get a chance. The second big flaw is the zipper. It is flat out poor engineering. It gets caught if you try to zip up quickly not to mention clipping it into zipper is a bit tougher then it should be.
