The North Face Sedition ll Stretch Jacket - Men's

The North Face Men's Sedition II Stretch Jacket rebels against cold, snowy weather. Waterproof breathable Gore-Tex softshell material and fully sealed seams keep you bone-dry. Comfort mapping technology means this jacket has fleece to keep you warm where you need it like on your back but not where you give off body heat, such under the arms. If a storm rolls in but you want to keep ripping, flip up the fully adjustable hood, adjust the powder skirt, and hook the Sedition Jacket to your The North Face pants for a one-piece barrier against the elements. When it turns bluebird, drop heat through pitzips and turn up your tunes, which you have stored in the internal media pocket. An asymmetrical closure keeps your chin chafe-free. A RECCO avalanche rescue reflector might help ski patrol find you in case of an avalanche.

Bottom Line: Break all the rules in The North Face Sedition II Stretch Jacket.

It's ok

This jacket is a skiing shell; I don't think any other use is really appropriate. It is a warm piece (with a thin layer of microfleece), it has an interior snow skirt, and it has a Recco reflector. It has a good selection of pockets -- two side pockets, plus a sleeve pocket, zip up interior pocket on the left, and outside left chest pocket. However, it's a very heavy garment; if you are using it for anything but lift skiing, you are probably going to come to feel resentful about its weight. Yet even if you can overlook the weight issue, it had some unfortunate quirks for lift skiing. 1) I only began skiing with a helmet this year (I had to get them for the kids, they were on sale at EMS, I'd heard a radio report about a couple of terrible ski accidents at Whiteface...), and the hood for this jacket (bought only two years ago, after helmet use was widespread) simply did not accommodate the helmet; I certainly missed using my hood while I was on the lift with 15-20 MPH winds whipping away at me. 2) It's cut too slim. While a warm piece, it is certainly not warm enough to keep you warm in single digit F temps with only a base-layer and light mid-layer, which is what it accommodates easily. It needed to be cut to accommodate a real insulation layer (down, fleece -- whatever). Lastly -- I am not convinced it is as waterproof as it should be. In one wet snowstorm (temp = 30F), I think some moisture got through in the shoulder seams. And there was a fair amount of "smearing" on the shoulder and upper chest where I would have expected the DWR to make all the wet stuff roll off. I have to use it in wet conditions a bit more to verify this, though.

Update colors on the jackets!

By:
December 24, 2007

It seems like everytime i get this jacket it never matches the color of the website. Sure it not a big thing but still i think all interenet companies selling $500 plus jackets should have photos of stock items updated and corrected.

I love it!

This is the best jacket I've ever owned. It's a little long for us short guys (5'9"), but other than that I love it. I don't have to wear anything more than a long-sleeve t-shirt underneath to stay warm in 20 degree weather. Awesome!!!!

Great jacket, but made for tall people

By:
February 10, 2007

I love this jacket. I was looking for something that wouldn't be so bulky...something that I could wear around town and on the slopes. I have had so many coats and jackets that never really did the trick. This jacket is warm and easily fits over other layers for extra warmth. I love the way the zipper goes to the side of the collar so there's no chafing on my chin. My only problem with this jacket is that it's a little too long. I'm 5'9", and this fits me more like a parka than a jacket. Other than this little issue, I love my new "jacket". It's the best I've ever owned.

Form follows function

Just tried the jacket in freezing Zermatt, and not only didn't I feel cold at all, but also the jacket has a little cloth to clean my sunglasses integrated in one of the pockets! So no icing of the glasses, and a wonderful free feeling due to the gore tex stretch fabric on the back, may be I wave a bit too much with the poles now ...

Could have been better!

By:

i like the jackets but the color was not updated. I thought it was very nice and wasn't that satisfy, with stretch Gore-Tex. I think the XCR Gore-Tex might have been a better pick but i like the look of it.

Kind of hard for a softshell

By:

This Gore softshell is nice, but doesnt really stretch as much as I thought it would. Really breathable and worth every penny.
