The North Face VE 25 Tent 3-Person 4-Season

As the high-altitude snow storms rage, stay dry and comfortable in The North Face's 4-Person, 4-Season VE 25 Tent. Dual doors with dual vestibules give you plenty of room for your stuff, and The North Face's true bucket nylon floor blocks snow and rain from entering your safe haven. Get to basecamp and set up the VE 25 Tent quickly with the no-hassle continuous pole sleeves and color-coated canopy and flysheet webbing. Once you're cozy inside, peer out the durable polyurethane windows to check on the weather conditions. Multiple guy-points steady the VE 25 Tent against harsh mountain winds, and The North Face's internal tent pockets keep your headlamp, watch, and midnight chocolate snack accessible. Unzip the internal vents and enjoy a cool breeze when the weather warms up.

Bottom Line: Join your buddies in The North Face VE 25 Tent and stay dry as the weather throws down its worst storms.

Only on the actual tent there are vents which you can close or open by way of a zipper. The fly is completely closed to strengthen the structure for high winds, snowpile, or driving rains.

More then a one season tent

By:
June 6, 2009

While this is one of the most bomb proof tents made for winter use, I use mine all the time in all seasons. It vents well, and I have used it in Hawaii as well as on the Green River in Utah. There are lighter tents for such uses, but if you want only one tent, this is the one. For high altitudes, regardless of season this is a great tent. Let the winds blow, just be prepared to take in others whose 3-season tents have blown down.
The only down side is weight, hence only 4 stars.

Can the TNF VE-25 Tent hold up to hurricane-force winds?

I plan to "ride out" an hurricane in a tent.

Do you believe this tent can hold up to hurricane weather conditions?

Disregarding the obvious question (why?), I'd go for a two-person four-season tent instead. They tend to be lower profile and more solid. If you need the space then never mind, but if you don't, do that. Don't get swatted down by some massive flying chunk of plywood.

YES! We used this tent on Gasherbrum II in the Karakorum this past summer and it withstood everything the weather had to give it-high winds, big snow loads, and lots of sun. This is a high performance, reliable, sturdy tent.

Great tent for winter/expedition use

By:
August 10, 2007

I have used this tent for 8 year ranging from Mt Washington to Denali. This tent is simple to set up and is bomb proof. The 2 vestibules are both functional and the front can be dug out when pitched in the snow or cooked in (remember to vent!!!). It is heavier that a bibler tent, but warmer and more comfy then a bomb shelter. It has a fairly large footprint, so if you are doing a technical route where space or weight is an issue look for a single wall tent.

It's 104 inches across. If you sleep three people that's about 32 inches apiece, with four people it's 26 inches. 26 inches is a little tight, and you'll have no room whatsoever for gear. The North Face website lists it as a 3-man, But here's my advice: I uploaded a drawing of the tent's footprint with measurements. Recreate it on the floor with masking tape, then get some people and gear to lay in it and see what you think.

The North Face VE 25 is a tried & true expedition tent that can be used throughout the year. The only drawback using it as a summer tent is it's weight where a much lighter tent would work just as good. As far as ventilation is concerned, a three season tent has it beat hands down. Four Season tents should be called one season tents. Four Season tents are only good in the winter the rest of the year they lack ventilation making them sweat lodges.

Home sweet home

By:

I've used this tent for several years (used to be the Mountain 25), and love it dearly. The other reviewers are right - use this only in harsh conditions. Otherwise, get a cheaper and lighter 3 season tent to avoid camping in a sweat lodge...unless you're into that sort of thing.

Yes, the footprint for the VE-25 does fit older ones. I'm using one on my VE-24 which is the predecessor to the VE-25 and it fits and works perfectly. It comes color coded for the ve-25 which, of course, does me no good on my VE-24 but it is the exact same size and the corners match up with the ve-24. As long as the dimensions are the same, it will work.http://www.backcountry.com/store/TNF1981/The-North-Face-VE-25-Footprint.html

Chilin on the Glacier in the VE 25

June 13, 2009

Renan and I spent a few weeks on the glacier in The Ruth Gorge in this rig and we stayed high and dry. At one point a storm had us tentbound, a little delirious and inspired to create a mural on the ceiling of the tent.
