Good fit, comfortable.

I have yet to try the jacket out in really cold weather, just a few 40 degree evenings. It is warm. Ill throw it on top of a t shirt and thats all I need. I get the feeling that it may not be enough on a cold Marquette Michigan winter morning, but it has been great so far this fall. I am 6'3", 195lbs. I ordered a large. I wish it was a bit longer, but the sleeves and the collar are perfect length. I could fit a light sweater underneath, but would want an XL if I was going to stuff a heavy hoodie under this jacket.

Can this jacket be zipped into TNF shells? Does it have snaps on the cuffs that clip into the shells as well?

I live in Gatlinberg Tennessee and there is a small ski place there called ober Gatlinberg. The Coldest that i've seen it get there with the wind blowing is about 30 degrees F. The average temperature there is about 40-50 degrees F. Does any one think that this jacket would work with just one or two undershirts on beneath it?

Hi, I'm 6'5" with a fairly slim/athletic build and am thinking about getting this jacket -- just not sure which size. I need long sleeves (36'-37'), but hate the big, boxy bodies of most XLs. Any thoughts? Thanks!

Try the Xl. This isn't as boxy as say the Denali jacket from TNF but it should about your sleeve length maybe longer. If you don't like it you can always return it to Backcountry, no questions asked.

great all-around jacket

i was blown away with this jacket. the fit is excellent. i typically wear a large but went with the medium and it was the right choice. i am 5'8" 185lbs. it blocks the wind very well and it is a good insulator. i like it as a mid-layer or by itself. it looks very good too. as an all purpose jacket i highly recommend it. in extreme cold this is not it. i wear it for just about everything-the athletic fit allows me to perform all activities with ease. it seems to breather pretty good for how thick it is.

Is this Jacket suitable for a winter jacket? I know it's only fleece, but it sounds like it would be very, very warm, especially since it blocks wind.

I think it depends on your definition of winter. Would probably be ok for most of winter in Utah, where it is really not all that cold on a day to day basis, but would definitely not be ok for somewhere like chicago or wisconsin where it is just damn cold all the time. It may say it blocks the wind, but it won't block ALL the wind.

Does anyone have any idea if this jacket could be a goon option for riding on motobike?

I think it would make a good option because of the windblocking properties. You might also consider some type of softshell - that is what I ride with. Good wind resistance and durable.

Go with the Apex Thermal. Much stronger material and safer; if you happen to crash.

Not quite right

This jacket is little more than a fleece and didn't provide the warmth I was looking for. It looked nice though I liked the cut and it fit well.

Wear it everyday...

I use my Windwall mainly as a mid layer. It keeps me toasty warm, and when its worn alone looks far better than thew Denali. It is far more wind resistant too! You won't be disappointed.

Windwall thermal exceeds expectations

By:
February 18, 2007

This jacket is great. Warm enough to wear as the only outer layer on very cold days, breathes well enough to wear indoors so long as the temp inside isn't already pretty high. Very comfortable, very stylish. Gets a lot of praise as a handsome North face product that isn't the ubiquitous Denali.

Best I've found

By:

Plus - Much more wind resistant that WindPro. Reinforcements in all the right places. Warm, but more breathable than barrier fleece Negative - Lots of seams around the elbow. I'd use a compression stuff sack. I'd buy another one, it's my favorite 'everything but real serious' fleece jacket BTW, much warmer that '100 weight' fleece, almost a midweight pile.

Amazing

I bought this jacket as a substitute for the big bulky Columbia jacket I have for winter. I live in WI so when winter hits, it sure as hell gets cold. This jaket has been amazing. The cold temps combined with the hard winds have created some nasty wind chills, but this jacket has held up to the challenge. It doesnt allow any wind in and keeps you nice and warm. It has been in the negative degrees lately and I havent been cold at all walking to class. I strongly recommend this jacket. Amazing buy!

windwall Thermal Jacket

By:
November 27, 2006

I attend a campus where everyone has the Denali NorthFace...I wanted to be different so I ordered the Windwall Thermal and it is my best investment of the Year. The price is expensive but very well worth it. I have worn it in temps down in the 30s...the technology is amazing and they are still very stylish...I love my North Face.

Best of What Fleece Can Offer

By:
October 5, 2006

Let's face it, fleece has its limitations. There is no miracle jacket that does it all. However, this fleece jacket does exactly what TNF has claimed it does and that is good enough for me. It is a fairly warm fleece jacket with excellent breathability, and zips under a shell very nicely. It is not as comfortable as the "Blackhawk" jacket by TNF on it's own, but it is very comfortable as a jacket, or midlayer. It keeps it's warmth on a cold and windy day, but is still very comfortable when stepping inside for a while. I could not believe how well this jacket breathes considering the conditions it is made for. It is as comfortable as a wool sweater indoors (without the itch), and much warmer than wool outside. However, this is not the end all. One still needs a shell jacket, or high performance soft shell, and if you want to make sure you are going to be warm you still need a down or Primaloft jacket. But if you want something to wear during activity in the cold, an excellent layer, or something to lounge around in, this is the jacket for you. It is expensive, but all jackets with this material run in this range. This is specialized clothing at its best.
