The North Face WindWall Thermal Fleece Jacket - Men's - 2006

This is an outstanding piece of clothing engineering. I can really see myself using this at anywhere from 2500 - 4000 meters and depending on the activity, weather, or time of day, using it as the only layer, or as a mid layer.

However, the sizing runs small. I am a relatively tall (1.81 meters, or roughly six feet in height) but not hugely built and on the thin side. Well the jacket, at a Medium fits perfectly.

That is ok now, but if things keep going the way they are, some more push ups, swimming or Canadian Army type calisthenics, and I will get bigger on the chest so, you might want to order a size large than you ususally do.

That applies for us thin people. And well, if you are built, well maybe
order two sizes above.

I'm 5'6", skinny and bought a size small. Like the others said, this is a slim cut jacket...which suits me perfectly. I closed the cuffs a bit and the drawcords at the bottom to keep it all hug my body.

It has been getting windy lately, and the TNF Denali I had just didn't cut it. The wind would pass right through it, making me cold. I bought this jacket in blue and grey and I have to say that I love it. It looks great and its different from all the other people wearing the Denali, so that is great.

When the wind blows, this jacket stops it in its track. I have been wearing it weather in the 30's with nothing but a T-shirt underneath. I was still a bit chilly, but someone with more meat on their bones, it might be enough. Put something underneath it and you'll be good to go in cold weather. When it gets really really cold, I can zip it into my TNF outer shell. Although my one grip with this is that the zipper's handle can't be flipped to the other side when zipping into the shell, which makes it a bit hard to zip into it.

Some CONS for this jacket is that the shoulder pocket is quite small and you'd even have a hard time fitting an iPod into there. Also the elbow area of the arm has many seams and different pieces of fabric coming together, which makes it bunch up when you bend your arm. Both of these are very minor complaints.

Loving the jacket so far.

I have yet to try the jacket out in really cold weather, just a few 40 degree evenings. It is warm. Ill throw it on top of a t shirt and thats all I need.

I get the feeling that it may not be enough on a cold Marquette Michigan winter morning, but it has been great so far this fall.

I am 6'3", 195lbs. I ordered a large. I wish it was a bit longer, but the sleeves and the collar are perfect length. I could fit a light sweater underneath, but would want an XL if I was going to stuff a heavy hoodie under this jacket.

TNF Windwall Thermal Fleece is an incredibly comfortable jacket. It by far out performs all other fleece jackets I've owned. Keeps me warm into the low 40's with just a t-shirt on. Wind blockage is good for it being fleece, but 50 mph straight line winds in 20 degree weather deemed too much for this jacket to handle alone. Layered with a nike hoody however, i've been in the teens and barely feel a thing. Jacket breaths well and is not bulky so it's easy to move in. The reason I included a but... in my title is because the price is much more than the jacket is worth. I recommend it, however I also recommend buying it when it's on sale. One more thing, I'm 6'2" 185 lbs. and the large fits great. Good length in the arms and torso, body isn't fitted like I would like, but this makes it easier to layer with. Hope this helps.

This jacket is wonderful so far. I picked up the package and thought "no way is this going to work as well as it says." I then went outside. I told my friend "to bad I can't say anything about the warmth since it's not actually that cold." Turns out it was 19 degrees f without windchill. I only had a t-shirt on. This was about 15 minutes after leaving the gym so I was a little warmed up but still excellent jacket! The only con, attempting to find a new adjective to place in front of jacket for the review title because this thing has gotten so much praise. I'm 5'8" and weigh about 135lbs, the small fits me perfectly.

Plus - Much more wind resistant that WindPro. Reinforcements in all the right places. Warm, but more breathable than barrier fleece Negative - Lots of seams around the elbow. I'd use a compression stuff sack. I'd buy another one, it's my favorite 'everything but real serious' fleece jacket BTW, much warmer that '100 weight' fleece, almost a midweight pile.

Surpassed expectations--like the fit;warm and really stops the wind.I have another similar jacket from Patagonia and like The North Face better

This jacket is little more than a fleece and didn't provide the warmth I was looking for. It looked nice though I liked the cut and it fit well.

One of those things than when you get it your like "damn, this was such a good idea". I really don't know what I did before I got this jacket though, I wear it skiing to biking and around campus everyday. Light weight and flexible, but so warm and 100% windproof, it's absolutely incredible. I though I had lost it one night, and was ready to go immediately buy another one because I can't live without it (and I'm a poor college kid).

I use my Windwall mainly as a mid layer. It keeps me toasty warm, and when its worn alone looks far better than thew Denali. It is far more wind resistant too! You won't be disappointed.

The only actual con I've noticed is that the pockets backing is only the breathable mesh used to line some of the inside. This means that with the pockets open some wind is able to get at your body. Not much of an issue I have jsut opted to wear gloves with it on cold days. Hope that helps

I think this jacket is somewhere between an outer shell and a layering jacket. It looks good, seems to block wind well. I expected it to be a bit warmer for 300 polartec, but it must be pretty tough to make a jacket that will keep you warm, breathe with activity, and still block oncoming wind. I am 6'3, 220, XL fits well.

I am 5' 7", 155 lbs and purchased a small size. Normally a size small for North Face jackets gives me ample room for layering underneath but this jacket is a little tight so you can't squeeze too many layers underneath. The sleeves are perfect so I got the right size. This jacket is warm and does a good job of keeping wind out. Overall, a nice jacket from North Face.

This jacket is a great jacket for temp's going into the 30-40 range. I would say that it blocks about 30% of wind which is disappointing because i was expecting it to block more. I live in New Orleans where the weather can dip into the 20's and it quite windy. Layered right, the jacket performs well. I am 6'2" and 175 lbs, long and lanky. I ordered the medium and it fits well. I included picture too, i'm on the right (black jacket). It has plenty of room for layering and the sleeves are perfect length.

I had my doubts about a jacket so thin living up to its stats. But the first day I wore it in some 28 degree winds w/ minimal layers underneath and I was shocked. Its pretty much only impressed more every time I put it through a new weather variation. Bottom line.....Worth it!!

Let's face it, fleece has its limitations. There is no miracle jacket that does it all. However, this fleece jacket does exactly what TNF has claimed it does and that is good enough for me. It is a fairly warm fleece jacket with excellent breathability, and zips under a shell very nicely. It is not as comfortable as the "Blackhawk" jacket by TNF on it's own, but it is very comfortable as a jacket, or midlayer. It keeps it's warmth on a cold and windy day, but is still very comfortable when stepping inside for a while. I could not believe how well this jacket breathes considering the conditions it is made for. It is as comfortable as a wool sweater indoors (without the itch), and much warmer than wool outside. However, this is not the end all. One still needs a shell jacket, or high performance soft shell, and if you want to make sure you are going to be warm you still need a down or Primaloft jacket. But if you want something to wear during activity in the cold, an excellent layer, or something to lounge around in, this is the jacket for you. It is expensive, but all jackets with this material run in this range. This is specialized clothing at its best.

I attend a campus where everyone has the Denali NorthFace...I wanted to be different so I ordered the Windwall Thermal and it is my best investment of the Year. The price is expensive but very well worth it. I have worn it in temps down in the 30s...the technology is amazing and they are still very stylish...I love my North Face.

I gave it as a Christmas gift,& my son was very pleased with the warmth, & comfortability without the bulkiness of a heavy jacket. He loves it!!! Thanks

This jacket is great I got it for my boyfriend, he really wanted a nice warm black fleece but didn't want the Denali style that everyone else has. This was perfect its warm enough for Michigan & our 3 feet of snow that we have already (wah hoo!) but looks nice to got out in too. Thanks Backcountry

This jacket is the best thing I've bought in a long time. I've worn this jacket everyday since I bought it I guess about a month ago now. I wear it on my morning ride to the train, I've worn it skiing, and in -11C weather in the mountains. It is so warm, fits and looks great. I am 5'11, 175 lbs and bought the medium which fits great. I can layer underneath it easily. I want to buy another but they dont have other colors other than blue, black, and grey. I already have too many clothes with those colors.

I bought this jacket for my brother's birthday present. He loves the jacket. He is 5'10" and around 210 lbs. I bought him an XL large and it fits great on him. His upper body is big (he plays college football), but the length is fine. I will buy another jacket for myself.

I bought this jacket for my 16 year old son for Christmas. I really debated what size to get him. I purchased a large for him, and it fits great. He is almost 5"11" tall and weighs 180 lbs. He plays football, so his upper body is well built. I think the medium would have been too short in the sleeves. The body is a little roomy, but this way he could wear a sweatshirt under it for added warmth. We live in Iowa, so the winters can be very cold. He hasn't had a chance to test it in really cold weather yet, but so far he says it is a lot warmer than his Columbia fleece. For whatever reason, he refuses to wear a true winter coat. He is very happy with his coat and I agree it looks nice. If it helps, he wears a 32" waist in pants.

Bought this jacket as a Christmas gift for a friend and absolutely loves it. He is very picky and will never wear a jacket for any reason even if it's snowing outside. Tells me that it is very warm and blocks wind very well. He wears the jacket everyday now and says it's also stylish to wear out.

Bought this jacket as a Christmas gift for hubby. He loves it. He's very picky how sleeves fit and that the bottom does not bind. He says the weight is perfect and very warm.

I picked out this jacket myself especially for my son for xmas. I looked over all the other fleece jackets, especially by North Face, & selected this one. It has a wind barrier, a nice weight, & looks sporty. We live in northern New York where we get mucho snow & frigid weather frequently so wanted something appropriate for this climate & moderate temps as well. Am very satisfied with what I chose.

This jacket is great. Warm enough to wear as the only outer layer on very cold days, breathes well enough to wear indoors so long as the temp inside isn't already pretty high. Very comfortable, very stylish. Gets a lot of praise as a handsome North face product that isn't the ubiquitous Denali.

i was blown away with this jacket. the fit is excellent. i typically wear a large but went with the medium and it was the right choice. i am 5'8" 185lbs. it blocks the wind very well and it is a good insulator. i like it as a mid-layer or by itself. it looks very good too. as an all purpose jacket i highly recommend it. in extreme cold this is not it. i wear it for just about everything-the athletic fit allows me to perform all activities with ease. it seems to breather pretty good for how thick it is.
