The North Face Summit Jacket - Men's - 2006
When the weather ruins your summit attempt, The North Face Summit Jacket keeps you warm as you descend back to base camp. Flip up the removable hood, tighten the adjustable stretch cuffs, and wipe the tears from your eyes. There's always next time. This jacket's welded baffles are packed with high-loft, 800-fill goose down, which makes this winter coat incredibly warm and ultra packable. As part of The North Face's Summit Series, the Summit Jacket gives you bomber protection, on the way up and on the way back down.
Bottom Line: The North Face Men's Summit Jacket is a down jacket ready for any summit.

Poor quality consistancy

I personally had a very poor experience with this jacket. I had to send the first one back becuase the large size was too small, so I ordered an extra large, which was WAY TOO BIG, and thus sent it back for a large again which this time was also too big. I ended up returning the jacket again anyway a buying a different brand becuase of the poor product quality and consistency. The last jacket I recieved had no loft, was lacking fill, and thus had many cold spots, and was cold. I tried fluffing the jacket in the drier like north face customer service had told me to, but it didn't help. It just made the down bunch into the ends of the sleeves and left none in the elbows or shoulders of the jacket. In my opinion as a long time consumer of North face gear, they have had very poor product quality consistency. The first jacket (L) I recieved was great, but too small, the second jacket was way too big (XL) but also made correctly, and the third jacket (L) was again too big and poorly constructed. I have also had the same experience with their sleeping bags. In my opinion you would be much better off spending your money on a different brand (becuase this is an expensive jacket), possibly a brand that hasn't become so mainstreamed and still cares about keeping a high standard of consistency and quality!

I have not used the jacket so much yet, but I can say so much that it's really warm. Will suit the Nordic (Swedish) winter like a glove.
The quality seems good and that's important when my thought is to use it as a reinforcement garment in the mountains.
Himalaya VS Summit

When i first got this jacket I was a bit gutted that it wasn't the Himalaya parka, which is thought to be better and warmer. However, after having worn a couple of times in the Norwegian mountains, in ice cold weather, i soon realised that this jacket has all the warmth and water resistancy you'll ever need! Later I had a chat with a friend of mine who has the Himalaya parka and we resulted in this:
If you need an extremely warm jacket that can take snowblizzards any time, any where, this is a great alternative. If you need all that and two more pockets and a useless chinstrap and a slightly softer lining, go for the Himalaya.
Good luck!

A GREAT jacket, the only downside is that it´s leaking goose feathers like hell, leaving me looking like a bird when I take my jacket off.
Don´t bother to ship it back across the Atlantic though, then I won´t have a jacket this winter...
A little costly but seems worth it.

This jacket is very well constructed. Very warm. Blocks wind excellently. Should last for years.
