The North Face Recon Backpack - 1850cu in

When you need a staple pack for school, a day hike, or just a trip to the beach, The North Face Recon Backpack ups the ante for comfort and durability. A padded laptop sleeve protects the brains of the operation, and a hydration port protects your body from dehydration. Bomber nylon and nearly indestructible Hypalon fabric combine with a breathable, air-channeled back panel and signature mammoth mesh pocket to make a comfortable, well-organized backpack. The Recon Backpack is clean enough for school usage, but tough and techy enough for day hikes. Find out for yourself what makes the Recon one of The North Face's most popular backpacks.*Water bottle not included.

Bottom Line: As tough as a day at school can get, it's no match for The North Face Recon Backpack.

Amazing!!!!

By: sharleefloren2249166(1)

I had the Isabella before and I needed something bigger and this is perfect. It has the perfect spot for my laptop, tons of room for books, and lots of organization. Plus, I love the little front zip pocket to store my wallet and keys in. It's been big enough for me to use on my weekend trips while I've been in Europe, and small enough for when I just have a notebook to take to class. I love this North Face!!

Is the northface recon asphalt gray and captiva pink coming out soon? I have been looking everywhere for it and would prefer it over the other colors.

I love the pack! I have to take my work computer home everyday and this pack is perfect for holding the laptop, cords, and all of my other girly stuff that I pack it with. It is amazing...it looks so small but I seem to be able to pack it with so much stuff. I would recommend it to anyone!

I have owned 3 recons

By: keohan682170037(1)
April 13, 2008

I love this backpack. Of the 3 i owned two were stolen, and the one i own now i have had for years. I have traveled alot with bag,and camped some. It is also a great rock climbing bag, plenty of room inside for gear, a rope buckles on top, and jacket strapped to bottom. When camping i strap my sleeping bag to the bottom, and jacket to the top, with just enough room inside for a couple days worth of gear.

Ivar Backpack's Shelf Design... Innovative!

By: georgeb602127717(1)
March 18, 2008

This is a great backpack... Bought it as a present for my cousin... But, my cousin already had purchased a backpack called the Ivar Pack (which I had never heard about). I'll be keeping the Recon for myself, but I must say, the Ivar backpack has this really cool shelving system inside of it. My cousin loves it because of the organization and the feel of it - it's more comfortable.

tooooo small

By: Anonymous(1)
March 1, 2008

I really cannot understand why this backpack is 30L. I bought it because I think the old backpack is too small, but after received it I found it is smaller. After put in my laptop and 1-2 clothes it is already full. Well, if all your need is a backpack to carry a laptop, it is still a good choice. but if you want fit something else in, even a DSLR, I would recommend you pass this.

North Face Recon Backpack

By: AdamJ(1)
February 26, 2008

I Needed a alternate backpack for Tuesday/Thursday classes in college. I didn't need anything too or too small. This one is great. My only complaint is there is no place to place the beltstrap when you don't need it, making it a little uncomfortable when left latched (the straps dangle when unlatched.

Nice bag

By: tsaylor45(20)
February 12, 2008

Solid bag has served me well winter camping, on campus, hiking across Japan, as a carry-on bag, and anything else I've used it for. Just big enough to hold what I need, the sternum strap is nice and the waist belt tucks away when I'm at school, which is nice. All in all, quite nice, but at full price it's a bit steep for a school backpack...which is what it is designed for clearly.

Small Bag

By: Anonymous(1)
January 1, 2008

I bought this for my fiance and when it came in the mail it was sooo small. i put his laptop in to test it out before christmas and there was no more room left for books/binders etc... the bad news is this bag is really small for a college student that has to carry more than just the computer... the good news is that you have wonderful customer service and i was able to return this bag and get a new one in time for Christmas!

Good backpack

By: Anonymous(1)
November 25, 2007

This backpack is great for college students because it can fit my laptop and notebooks for class. However, I've owned my backpack for about 5 months and for some reason the back mesh is starting to clump together. I have no idea how this happened, but it has started to ruin the shirts I've been wearing by making it all clumpy.

Recon Review

By: Anonymous(1)
September 9, 2007

This is a great back pack for school/college and a weekend pack. I personally could use it for a weekend even though they call it a day pack. A very sturdy and strong bag! Other than the pros and cons listed that I hope they will improve on, it's a great backpack. None of the Cons I listed would make me return the bag by any means though. Pros: -Excellent zippers. -Strong straps to attach extras to if needed -Water bottle holders aren't cheaply made like on other packs. Cons: -Padding in shoulder straps isn't great. -Waist belt not padded either. -Helmet pocket strap covers water resistant zipper - not easily accessed

Good pack, a little thick

By: Kelsi(3)
June 21, 2007

I noticed that while traveling on the airlines with a good amount of stuff the pack gets really thick and hard to shove under the seat. It's worth mentioning because it seems to have a lot of special features/things in each pocket which increase the "thickness" of it when it's empty. I really like this pack though, it's comfortable, the black color looks professional, it has nice mesh pockets on both sides for Nalgene, iPod, cell phone, sunglasses. I really like that. And the mesh in front is awesome too, I always throw an extra clothing layer in there. Also nice having the laptop sleeve in the big pocket. I like this pack a lot.

It seems like everyone else covered all the great features. The only complaint I have is that I wish it had water-proofed zippers.

great pack....

April 27, 2007

i've always bought jansport backpacks ever since grade school....now that i've gone on to a university i knew i needed to upgrade. this was a GREAT buy. I bought the Anenome Green, and I'm very happy with the color, although the light green part is a bit too limey for my taste. a lot of storage space, VERY comfortable to wear and LOOKS even better than the picture. I recommend buying the blue or black one...but if you want to try a color that you don't see usually get the anenome green.

Best backpack I've owned to date. I use it to get me around campus from class to class, but I do plan on taking it camping as well; it looks like it would be great for use as a day-pack when hiking.

April 6, 2007

I really love this backpack. it's great for carting all my gear around campus - the organizer pocket is perfect for my ubergeek pen collection, and there's also plenty of pockets for ipods, computer cables and my mobil. I'm super impressed with all the great features. it's a little smaller than I expected, but does the job. A+!

Great bookbag, my boyfriend loves it. It has a great look and lots of little extras other than toting around your gear. Also, shipping was extra quick with no extra pay so I was super excited about that. Overall, GREAT purchase, I would do it again in a heartbeat.

Great all-purpose pack. Enough room for my laptop, folders and business supplies for work...Fits everything I need for a weekend hike. It looks good in a NYC Subway and at the top of an Adirondack peak. Recommended.
