The North Face Vector 22 Footprint - 2008
The North Face fitted the 22 Footprint specifically for your Vector 22 tent, so your tent can last longer and so you have a fly-only pitching option. Leave the tent body at home and pitch just the fly over the footprint to create a lightweight shelter that shaves pounds from your pack or that works as an emergency rain shelter or sunshade.
Bottom Line: Your tent's insurance policy.
Talk shop with all the gear freaks out there: ask 'em questions, upload/browse photos, and give your 2¢.
What is a foot print for? Also, what is a pitching with a fly

Footprints are ground sheets that fit to your tent's bottom - they protect tent floors from abrasion, increase waterproofness, and help insulate you from the cool ground. It's almost like insurance in one way - I'd rather rip a $30 footprint on rocks that may be in the ground where you pitch your tent than ruin a $250 tent bottom. - Greg-------------------The answer to your other question is that since the footprint is the same size as the bottom of the tent and has grommets in all the right places, you can put poles and the fly on the footprint for a super light, if less warm or comfortable, shelter. It's a good option for summer camping or if you just need to keep gear out of the rain.
