The North Face Blue Kazoo Sleeping Bag: 15 Degree Down

The North Face Blue Kazoo 15-Degree Sleeping Bag has 600+ fill down that plays a toasty tune down to chilly temps. Extremely compressible and durable, this is the classic North Face all-around backpacker's bag. As usual, The North Face has constructed this bag with the utmost detail. Its silken lining feels wonderfully soft on your skin, and it's breathable so your funk doesn't fester inside your bag all night. Heat traps and draft tubes minimize heat loss throughout. The Blue Kazoo is so comfy, you'll say, "To hell with seeing the sun rise over Lone Peak," and instead choose to sleep in. But just in case, The North Face has integrated an ear-level watch pocket so you're up in time. When you go to rest your weary head, stuff the Blue Kazoo's external pillow pocket with your down or fleece jacket and voilà! Instant pillow. Store your Blue Kazoo in its nylon/mesh storage bag so the down doesn't lose its loft.

Bottom Line: Stay toasty in cold weather with the classic Blue Kazoo.

Great 3-4 season bag

By:

I live in DC, where a 15 degree back can work for the entire season. It's nice not having to check temperatures before an outing, and just throw this bag in. I drape it over me, and lie on top in hot weather, and it works great. If it gets cold I zip it up snug and use a ground pad for a little extra insulation. This bag is soft, comfortable, and great for all situations. No complaints at all about the bag.

This is a real good sleeping bag, especially for the sale price. Compresses pretty small, very warm, has a nice footbox, great stashpocket, and it has a draft collar but you can't cinch it to save weight. Comes with a compression sack... Marmot sawtooth doesn't. It's not an ultralight bag, but I still use mine for fastpacking.

Am returning The North Face BK for Marmot Sawtooth—a close contest. Both bags seem well-made, durable, same fill, same rating. Both shells fairly h20-resist. Both same price, so I could make rare feature-based value judgment. My assessment of TNF BK: PROS: Less fiddly zip (longer pull tabs, stiffer backing); nice elastic hood draw; wide shoulders; less vol to warm; stash pocket. CONS: Less vol to toss/turn. Dealbreaker: no drawable neck baffle—might mean 5-10 degrees? UNTESTED VALUE: Neat Polarguard 3D strips, fancy foot box, pillow pocket, TNF logo. In end, TNF may have cut some basic design quality for frills; would post Marmot review, but--

worng kazoo

The Blue Kazoo is the best sleeping bag I have ever had. The first new one in many, many years. I did order the right hand zipper because I am right handed, but did not stop to think that since being diagnosed with sleep apnea, I must sleep on my stomach so should have ordered the left hand zip. Now I have to wrestle around each time I get in and out, but of course not North Face's problem. Getting old is not for sissies!
