The North Face Momentum Jacket - Men's
The North Face Momentum Jacket is a revolutionary fleece for light-and-fast scrambling through the backcountry. Part of The North Face's Flight Series, it's built with breathable 4-way stretch fabric, so it moves with you when reaching for the next hold or paddling across the lake. The Momentum has an athletic fit, making it great for layering under your winter shell during backcountry ski trips. Monkey thumbs keep the elastic bound cuffs in place for layering, and a Napoleon pocket stows your energy bar.
Bottom Line: Keep moving with The North Face Momentum Fleece Jacket.

Is there a difference between this JACKET and this (http://www.backcountry.com/store/TNF2823/The-North-Face-Mom ntum-Fleece-Jacket-Mens.html) FLEECE?
Flag
Yes. The new S08 Momentum jackets do not have a zipper pull that flips over for zipping into the Mountain Light jacket. Other than that they are the same.

As a rule I avoid The North Face, so when I first bought this jacket I had low expectations. I was completely and pleasantly surprised! This jacket is well fitted, comfortable, and works great as a layer or stand-alone piece in the fall and spring. Mild climate dwellers will love this piece for it's functionality. North Face has a great thing going with their lightweight fleece.

I love this jacket. It has worked great so far this chilly spring. It has a tight fit that will keep you nice and warm during a windy spring day. It has soft fleece and i love the thumb holes at the end of the sleeves.

It meets your expectations. The jacket is "fleece", but it's actually lighter, thinner and incorporates some spandex. The warmth it provides is stupendous. It'll make you hot on some occasions. The sleeves are longer than a normal jacket so that you can use the monkey thumbholes and not feel the cloth yanking at your thumbjoint--great innovation! Also great as a layer. I'm 5'7" at about 150 and the jacket is ever so slightly loose, but fits well. I could have gotten a small. I think the small would have been far more form-fitting however. The design is excellent. It looks great zipped up to the neck and unzipped. I don't have bulky arms, so the sleeves fit well. Overall, the jacket is the fit that is shown on the picture. I've worn this jacket in all sorts of places--out for the night, at work, etc etc. Wonderful and versatile jacket. I hope to use this one over and over and over again!

I have two of these now and I love them. I am 6'3" 210 pounds with a 21" torso and the large fits me like a glove. There is plenty of sleeve length and I feel waist length as well. It is cut tight at the waist with it slightly longer in the back but I have not found it to be a problem. Very warm and blocks the wind as well. Exchanged for a L mountain light jack and it zips in great. Only minor grip is the jacket itself is so light that it makes the zipper feel heavy. If TNF would make it in a 1/4 zip, that would be awesome, not a really big deal though. Great warmth for the weight, can't wait to use it hiking.

If you are 5'10" or taller jacket is to short at the waist no matter what size you are.

I have a XL mountain lite TNF jacket. Would a large Momentum jacket still zip in?
Flag
Yeah you can still zip it in. You'll have a little left over zipper in the mountain lite at the top but it shouldn't be a problem.

I wear it all the time, inside for work and outside for skiing, hiking, and cruising around town. I’m the sort of person that usually finds fleeces too hot for anything but sitting around. This works perfectly to keep my core temperature perfect and constant when worn on it’s own. The material, which is smooth, and slim fit, also makes it great for layering. In a Montana climate, this under a Gore-Tex is sufficient for most winter activities, although if you’re moving a long hiking or X-country, this will be sufficient. Going to buy another one in a different color.

This jacket has been the best investment yet. I purchased my jacket one size smaller than the others I own due to other peoples reviews and it was a good choice. Fits great and looks good too. This jacket is great for everyday leisure and performs well in athletic situations by stretching with your body. Great jacket, i don't go anywhere without it. By the way works great while playing tennis in sub 60 degree weather.

Love this jacket! It is great to wear under a shell or by itself when it's warmer outside. I also enjoy running in this jacket on cooler days. It has a great fit and moves well while being active. My favorite jacket!

This jacket is wonderful.
If you're wanting to wear it around town, you can pull off the mountain chic look. Otherwise, throw it on over a thin base layer & use it as the perfect middle layer for a week of Utah powder. The 'hand panties' (thumb loops) are great for keeping the jacket from slipping down & exposing your arms when those Utah winds are whipping.
Its look, performance & versatility will have me ordering a second one quite soon.
If you want that 'trim' look, order a size down. I'm 6', 165lbs & the small fits perfectly.

sleek and slim, but still a nice warm mid-layer. You need an outerlayer if its windy or cold, but this piece acts as a nice slender midlayer with my other gear. sleeves are very long, which i like and jacket is cut close to the body. If you arn't used to a snug fit, you may find this uncomfortable.

this is a nice top to have while traveling, and it is pretty well made. Plus the cut is pretty fashionable.
I must caution, you must be FIT to pull it off. Don't bother going 2 sizes bigger, I think you'd look like a fool, and feel like one in such a well engineered article of clothing.

An amazingly stylish jacket which often supercedes the comfort factor. I wore it for the first time this morning from the bus to work in downtown Seattle. The looks I got made me think my zipper was open. It definitely is a statement. I purchased the Empire Blue/Asphalt Gray color. As in other reviews, if you prefer the athletic fit, do order a size down. I have a 42 chest & a small fit me perfectly. It will show off the work you've been doing at the gym. It would lose the affect if it were slightly loose. My only complaint is the neck collar. The front cut needs to be tapered for your chin. When fully zipped, it rubs severely. When you're relaxing with it down slightly, the edges are a bothersome annoyance. You'll need to fold the collar down, but again, that takes away from the aesthetics. The warmth is sufficient, but if the wind kicks up, you feel like you're an uninsulated window. Overall, I'm quite the satisfied customer.

Nice fit but a bit too thin. I was expecting it to be a little more insulated. Probably not worth 80 dollars. I'll probably use it for spring or fall, but not winter.

Just received my Momentum Fleece yesterday. FANTASTIC fit! This really is a "Performance" fit and hugs the torso all the way down to the waist! I have an athletic build and have found that some outdoor clothing manufacturers claim that their clothing is fitted but it only "fits" those with slightly generous figures around the mid section (sorry, but you know what I mean! :-)) This has left me with gap at the bottom where the wind can get in. But the Momentum is PERFECT. It's not bulky but is still a nice mid layer. Fit is great in every respect, sleeve, waist , length down back and width across the back. I purchased the Medium as I compared the measurements to those of the other base/mid layers I have (in particular Berghaus MEDIUM) and I could not have chosen better. I am already ordering a second one of these to keep up.

I had went to a dinner party wearing this jacket. One of my uncles had this to say to another family member. " I know Chris is the type of person that would give the shirt of his back to anyone, but it looks like he wouldn't be giving that jacket he has on to anyone."
I love this jacket!

This jacket is one of the best pieces of clothing I've ever used mountaineering. It makes a perfect mid layer for any experience in the cold. The thumb holes make all the difference, which tuck into the jacket very comfortably if you were to wear it out on the town. A must have if you're spending either a day or a week playing out in the snow.

Very comfortable, extremely functional. It's a really good jacket for windy days. The only thing I don't love about it are the sleeves are a little long. I'm 6'3, and always wear an XL in Northface, and they are even long on me. But I still love the jacket.

I purchased one of these a few months ago and fell in love with it. Within a few weeks, I ordered a second in another color so that I could get away with wearing them more often. This works really great underneath a thicker jacket.. as I often wear my Momentum's under my The North Face Apex Bionic Jacket. The Momentum doesn't provide water support and the Apex Bionic is light enough to fit over it without getting too hot inside. They make a great cold/rainy combo and when you take off the outer shell (Apex Bionic), you still have a great jacket to wear around the office all day.

Jacket is very warm and would have served well except that on the Formosa green jacket the dark green top area looks black, but is a very darkish green. Recommend the jacket just make sure its the right color before you buy it.

Great fit, very snug and sleek. It looks absolutely ferocious. I love the thumbholes though they may not be for everyone and the extra length on the sleeves is to accommodate them. It's warm enough on its own and is perfect for layering. Honestly the most satisfied I've ever been with a jacket, and it's pretty cheap compared to similar products. 100% recommended.

I love TNF Momentum Jacket! The TKA Stretch fabric is soft and has a nice sleek appearance. Originally I got a large and that was way to big and exchanged for a medium. It is good and has a "loose" performance fit. To get that close performance fit order a size down. The monkey thumbs are great and make the sleeves a little longer to cover your hands. It is warm but will not block the wind. I receive lots of compliments about how good it looks. Great for the trail and stylish for running around town.

I bought this jacket as a substitute for my Columbia fleece. Thanks God I did! This jacket is great. Its perfect for spring days when a fleece would be too hot, but a light jacket is in need. This is my second North Face jacket and i love both of them. I would strongly recommend this jacket to anyone looking for style, comfort, and a slight bit of warmth for a cool spring/fall day.

MAKE SURE YOU READ REVIEWS! this jacket is good, but i didn't realize how light it was. Its really good for jogging and just running around in. And even though the have the monkey hands or whatever they're called-the sleeves are a little long but the jacket fits really good.

Have had the jacket for a month now. Has been great for this mild Indiana winter. If it drops below freezing the jacket is a too light unless I'm running. But it has been fine when the temp stays near 40. Is a great light outer layer for exercise. Being 6'4 and long in the arm I love that this jacket seems to be a bit longer in length at the hip as well as the sleeve.

The jacket is pretty much exactly what I needed, so I'm a fan. It's not particularly warm, but it makes an ideal inner layer. It's not too bulky (not bulky at all really), but adds a fair amount of warm to a shell. I'm happy.

Well....we loooove the jacket!! this is Gina's daughter and we bought the jacket for my boyfriend....he wears it ALL THE TIME...and i got it for him when he was going to the Denver Bronco/Seattle Seahawk game. He said that all he had to wear was his north face jacket in the 20 degree weather in the daytime...he said it perfect! He didn't have to wear anything else other than that....until it got the chilly 6 degrees it was there! thank you!

This jacket is named momentum for a reason! It gives you the momentum you need to continue your outside activities into the chilly fall weather. It's light, warm, and moves with you. You can't find a better jacket for the money!

This fleece has a perfect fit and style. I can wear this instead of a jacket and not feel cramped up when I go out. The holes for the thumbs are awesome, and I've gotten many complements on the fleece. Good quality, good buy, good service.

It's a great jacket minus the "performance fit" part. If you're like me, and have a small tire around your belly; you will not be able to zip this up without it looking funny. Otherwise, it keeps me warm and is a good buy.

I like this jacket a lot. It is warm and not constricting, and I think it does its job very well. Although I have noticed that it carries odors very well. I can walk into a house cooking ham, and I will smell like ham the rest of the day. So that is only thing I do not like about this jacket. Other than that this jacket is PRETTY SWEET!

My North Face jacket was exactly what I needed. I was looking for something that I could exercise comfortably in for the spring and fall, but still wear to class on a regular basis. This jacket did just that. Its lightweight design didn't make me feel like I was hauling around a comforter around, but it still keep me very warm.

I never write reviews, and I really like most of The North Face's stuff, but I feel compelled to sound a warning note here. I bought two of these jackets, one for me and one for my friend as a gift, and both of us experienced MAJOR pilling of the fabric after very limited use. Anywhere the fabric comes into contact with a pack or even itself, it pills. Until The North Face changes the fabric, I'd avoid buying this product. (As for the other reviews, I am small and ordered a size small and it fit perfectly -- I had no need to size down as others seemed to. Also, the monkey holes are a great feature. If only the jacket did not look like it was made of cotton balls after a few uses.)

I love this close fitting jacket for everything from going to class, internal layer during cold days, or exercise. I love the fit in the sleeves and at the torso, very comfy but light and out of the way. Definitely would buy again.

I love this jacket! My only qualm is that it’s a little short in the torso area for me, but I have a long torso. Other than that it’s great! I noticed some people have complained about the long sleeves. I think they are perfect considering that it’s designed that way for the monkey thumbs, which I love by the way. I wear this with a T-shirt under my Burton Snowboarding Shell, and I am toasty warm even in sub-zero temps. Great fleece interior. Not good against the wind, but under a shell, it’s a much better insulating layer than the Apex in my opinion! I ordered two more in different colors!
