The North Face WindWall 1 Vest - Men's - 2007
The North Face WindWall 1 Vest provides core protection from arctic blasts. Made from The North Face's WindWall fleece, this vest blocks over 90-percent of the wind, meaning you stay 90-percent warmer when the gusts pick up. The extra 10-percent goes toward breathability, so you won't overheat or get all clammy if you're working up a sweat. Wear the WindWall 1 Vest while skiing or riding, hiking or climbing. As a layer, or as an outer shell when it's warmer, this vest performs.
Bottom Line: Wind chill? You won't feel wind chill in TNF's WindWall 1 Vest.

Old school convert

OK,I grew up with wool sweaters and puffy down vests. This vest has made me a convert. Layered over a tech shirt it works great. Blocking wind, keeping the core warm without bulk, and very easy to pack. It's everything they claim.
Sizing is on the large size. I'm 6'2" 200 and the Large fits good. It's not big enough for 3-4 layers underneath, but that's not how I use it. I'm not a 'steep and deep' guy anymore but wear it every morning for running the dogs. It goes in my pack every time. North Face quality of design and manufacture makes it worth the price.

OK, I'm an old school guy, raised on wool sweaters and puffy down vests. I've been struggling to go high tech. This vest was my next step that way.
Understanding that his is not a 'cold weather' vest, I find that layering it over a tech shirt or two is just about perfect. It blocks the wind, keeps my core warm, and adds NO bulk.
I'm not a 'steep and deep' backcountry guy anymore. But spend a lot of time outside, walking dogs, working, and traveling. I find I wear it all the time, and it's going into my daypack every time from now on. The sizing is generous. I'm 6/2 195lbs and a large fits good. Close to the body so no heat leaks out. There isn't room for multiple layers under it, but that's not what it's for.
A go to garment that lives up to its' billing. You can't go wrong with this one. Just don't use it as the final hard shell. It's for core warmth.
It is a GOOD vest !!

This is not cheap, but it is really worth the price. I bought this for my husband as a gift. He likes it so much and wears it almost everyday.
You can't believe that you will feel warm in the cold weather and won't feel hot in warm weather with this vest, but it is truth!
Love it ... ...

This is a great vest, it truly serves its purpose. It provides a little bit of warmth and it blocks the wind very well. I've had it on everywhere from 30-75 degrees, and it has been comfortable in every aspect. The pockets are great and it's just an all around good investment. I'm 5'11 200 lbs and I ordered a medium. It's a snug fit, but it's perfect for me. Not too big, not too small.

The WindWall 1 Vest is a much better product then I expected. The fit is perfect for both warmth and movement. I live in North West Washington and can nearly wear the vest year round by just switching layers underneath. I am completely satisfied with the North Face quality and will remain a life long customer. Great Product guys!

I actually am not a size-medium person but a fairly regular, if not a tad small, woman. This vest is fabulous. Just want I wanted: created to feel light weight and not too warm when I can go out with only a sweater and the vest; light weight and really, really, toasty when layered. Great roomy zip pockets for cell phone and sunglasses. I wear it Nordic Walking daily by the ocean. From wind chill of 20 below to this morning at just 30F.

Its name does what it says; it blocks wind--very well. Great under a shell, keeps core warmth, waist drawstring, wicks moisture away very effectively.

This is definitely my favorite piece of clothing at the moment. Its perfect for cold, windy days that might turn out to be nice after all. The Windwall technology is great, the cut is very comfortable, and the number of pockets (3) just right. Its a well designed, practical piece of clothing gear that Im sure Ill enjoy for many years.

I travel the world regularly, this is one of the few pieces of clothing that always makes it into my bag. Tech specs live up to their name.
I couldn't ask for anything better.

This vest is really an excellent article of clothing. It protects you from wind yet its light and comfortable enough to wear casually. The look and feel is really good. It is the perfect length, the waist draw string and breast pocket is just icing on the cake. Overall this vest and this site is an A+ in my book!

Love this vest. I was looking for a windproof, yet thin, vest and this one is sure it! I ordered the women's version of the vest first, but I found it to be too short, coming just above my belt line. The men's version goes over my belt, adding length without bulk.
Best vest on the market

I have been a loyal North Face buyer for my entire life due to their high quality products and lifetime warrantee on their products. I previously bought a Windwall 1 Jacket and was very impressed with the warmth and wind resistence with a relatively thin and light weight material. The fleece also holds up extremely well to washington/drying unlike cheaper knockoffs that bunch up and loose their sleek appearance. The vest is a comfortable, well cut peice of clothing that keeps the core warm but allows for all types of athletic/leisure use. I would reccommend this vest, and any North Face fleece products for that matter, to anyone who is looking for a long lasting quality peice of clothing. Yes the price may be on the high end of the market, but these products will last a life time. Worth every penny!

I like my windwall vest mucho. More so than my Marmot vest. This vest is used primarily as an insulating layer underneath another coat on a particularly cold day. It does a good job at blocking out cold and wind. I do not like the way the neck zips up and feel, however. The neck is too stiff. Otherwise, this is my winter vest now. I can wear it sans jackets during Spring and Fall, too, I figure.
North Face garment quality declining

I purchased two men's WindWall 1 vests and found the zipper in one to be defective. I have bought this company's clothing for over ten years and this is my first disappointment. Either the zipper is sewn in incorrectly or the zipper itself is defective. Also this is the first time I purchased online.

This vest is perfect for places like Lake Charles, LA (where I'm from) where we have a milder winter. I'm, an attorney and this vest is nice enough to wear around the office all day. It's a great combo of performance and style.

The vest is a light weight way to keep warm. It has done a nice job of blocking the wind, especially as an undergarment to a lighter weight shell. I really like the arms-free warmth that this vest provides.

The North Face WindWall gets the job done! I was really impressed with the sound structure of the vest. The stitch work is excellent, well made garment. The fleece is smooth and very comfortable. The length is perfect, which is to say it hangs just past the waist. If fully zipped the neck is covered by a very soft material. As written the core of your body stays warm in mild cool weather, and the wind is no longer a concern. This vest would also make a great mid layer item. Great for hiking, fishing, biking, or even out on the town. Would not use this vest for extreme weather condition unless it was for the purpose of layering.

Good vest. searched far and wide for a long time to get just what i wanted. Would have settled for simple fleece but the windwall is exactly right for me.
And the black color can be worn in informal office settings.

Great wind-blocker for those days when a regular jacket gets too hot. I was taking a chance and ordering the medium size even though I am 6 feet tall, but it fits like a glove even with a t-shirt and a thin fleece.
Love it

It's light but very warm and windproof, just like they advertise. It is well-made, well worth the price. It's warm enough to wear by itself but thin enough to layer. I've been looking for one like this for a while. I love it.

I got the vest before heading off on a ski trip to the BC. The vest proved to be one of the best purchases lately. It added one insulation layer to in the most important areas; chest & back just right under the shell. Even being wind-proof it wasn't too sweaty. When climbing up a mountain, the vest proved to be the best choice. I wore it just over a semi-thin fleece jacket and technical layer - it protected from the wind, but yet enabled efficient sweat evaporation. Really great! The craftsmanship seems to be good (will need to see, how it wears - so far, as good as was new). Zippers, pockets & etc have good functional details. Sizing-wise Medium has a bit too much room around the belly area (I'm 6'1 and aren't carrying extra pounds..). The Arc'Teryx sizing is better for me. The collar felt first coming a bit too straight up from the front, but after a while I didn't feel the collar at all. I'd give 5, but the sizing directed to the great masses rather than sport enthusiasts takes one star away.
