The North Face Baltoro HV 400 Boot - Men's
The North Face Men's Baltoro HV 400 boot offers the protection you need from every element imaginable. Rated to -40 degrees Fahrenheit, the Baltoro HV 400 is primarily a winter boot. However, it excels in inclement weather—rain, snow, slush, sleet, and the occasional frog falling from the sky doesn't stand a chance of penetrating the HyVent waterproof barrier, fleece-lined collar and tongue lining, or waterproof Nubuck leather upper. As a result, your feet stay incredibly comfortable, warm, and dry. Regulating your foot temperature is an Outlast footbed. Outlast prevents overheating and sweating by absorbing excess heat, then releases that same heat when the temperature drops to maintain a comfortable, consistent temperature inside the boot. The 400-gram PrimaLoft insulation keeps the ride cush, and the Baltoro HV features a D-ring gaiter attachment for when the weather really turns nasty. The soles show no mercy to the ground you walk on—The North Face Winter Grip soles ensure you won't end up face-down on those icy patches.
Bottom Line: An all-weather mid-calf boot destined for extreme weather.

This boot is very warm and great to walk with. I found that my actual shoe size is the size that works best. So reviews suggest that buying 1/2 size larger is necessary, I tried both sizes and strongly disagree. Buy your size.

I ordered these boots right after our first snow storm and I havent looked back since. These boots are absolutely the best winter boots I have owned. I have walked through over a foot of snow, and my feet have stayed dry and warm. I wear them whenever I am outside with snow on the ground and I have not been dissapointed. One word of caution though, the boots were very snug for the first few days and I almost considered returning them for a bigger size, but after a few days of wear they fit perfectly now.

I'd agree with another reviewer, get a size bigger. I think the sizing is off on these. I like the construction of the boot, and after taking the insole out they were wearable.

Very tough to break in, but keep the feet warm. I've been using them for snowshoeing and walking around on wet, muddy days.
They're holding up very well.

Comfortable and they keep my feet warm and dry. The only complaint I have is that they are too roomy around the top portion of my foot. I have to order a half size larger with North Face to have room enough for my toes. I know they have to build things to fit the most people in any category. My problem is that my foot is long and wide but thin from top to bottom. Most people, I guess, have a thicker foot.
If I add a custom foot pad and wear thicker socks they fit pretty good. I like a snug fit.

Excellent service - these boots were shipped right before Christmas for my use in Aspen. They will definitely keep you warm and dry. They are as comfortable as a boot can be . I highly recommend them for all your winter outdoor activities.

I had to return these boots two times due to their incredibly inaccurate sizing. I usually wear a size 10 winter boot, the size 11 I received didn't even fit me before I had put on wool socks...mainly just not wide enough for comfort. I'd recommending ordering at least one size larger than you normally would, though that was still too small for me.

This is a very well made cold weather men’s boot. had the waterproof liner extended the full height of the boot they would have been near perfect. For some reason the waterproof liner stops halfway up the boot height, making it waterproof for 5 inches only in a 9 inch high boot.

The difference between my regular hiking boot and the Baltoro HV 400 is pronounced. My feet are the warmest part of my body, even with white cotton socks. I have no doubt that they will live up to their -40 rating. Breaking them in took a day or two. Good support, great traction, overall very pleased.

I enjoyed wearing these boots just to kick around out in the slush and cold weather while working outside. They did what I wanted them to do.

I bought these boots a day before we started a snowshoe hike of 10 days in the Uinta mountains. The first 2-3 days they where comfortable, warm, good fit.
Then they became colder and started to leak. The moisture came from the sole of the shoes and found its way through the insulation.
As the temperature went down to -13F (-25C) I had to take the shoes in my sleeping bag to get them a bit flexible again.
It is now a week after we came back, this is how long it took to dry out the shoes, and I still have no feeling in some of my toes (luckily they did not became black).
Also, the leather uppers soak up moisture and of course become rock hard after a night in the freezing cold.
So they are fine for 1-2 day hikes but I would not trust them for 3+ day hike (without being able to dry them out).
Friends of mine used the North Face Lifties and had no problems at all.

I would really like this boot if it were the right size. I have been wearing 10.5 forever, and never have trouble with them fitting except when I am trying on European made bicycle shoes. The right boot is too narrow and makes my foot hurt badly.

These are comfortable and warm. You do not get hot or cold the way they store the heat. No need to wear heavy socks. I really like them.

This was an upgrade from the very good Chilkat boot. The Baltoro is exceptional on the road and in the woods. I like the fact that the last is more flexible than a good B or C grade hiking boot, making for a softer ride.
Good insulation and ruggedness. Excellent grip on ice.
Great value for money.

Although I find Backcountry's international shipping policy really strange (very high shipping costs, read below), I must say I am really satisfied. I'm a photographer and sometimes I have to stay outside for a couple of hours without moving to take a good picture. With these boots I don't feel cold at all. I'd really recommend them for everybody who require a good quality AND feeling warm and comfortable. Note: order a half of size extra as they come quite narrow! Regarding the policy: the boots has been shipped to me to Poland by a friend of mine. It was 2 times cheaper than Backcountry's shipping costs!

The boots are great. They saved my feet not too long ago. We were in a convoy over here in the Stan and all the vehicles got stuck in the worst mud you could imagine. Well we worked all day getting them out. My feet were dry as a bone. On the return to base we hit another hole and had to dig out. Well it started storming, I was soaked but my feet were fine. I ordered a new rain jacket from you which I got the other day. Thanks.

My feet are average width and these boots are on the narrow side, they have a tight fit. Also, order a 1/2 size larger as they run small. They give good support, almost like a leather hiking boot. At -15 degrees my feet got cold after two hours. I think this may have been because of the tightness caused by the narrow fit of the boots. This is the only reason I don’t give the Baltoro five stars.

These TNF boots is great for all snow-bound activities. Very comfortable and flexible. They keep your feet warm and dry; and they wick loads better than Sorels. I'm not sure whether the heat retaining/releasing footbed is just a gimmick, but I was good in -30C conditions. The grip is excellent on all types of snow and very good in icy conditions. However, when the soles are wet, they are a bit slick on smooth, indoor surfaces. These would work in the city, but the soles are soft rubber and will quickly wear down on dry pavement. Also, they may be too warm for urban wear, especially if you spend time indoors. Buy at least 1/2 size larger. Overall, great snow boots

Excellent boot. Extremely warm. I bought them for ice fishing and other winter actitivities and have not been dissapointed.
Hint: I wear a 9.5 Mens and found that 1.5 sizes bigger is more appropriate than what is recommended on the website.

I usually take a 13 but bought size 14 because north face shoes and boots are notoriously small. A prudent precaution because they are still very snug. A good product but they MUST improve sizing.

These are a well made boot. They fit perfect, although with the North Face foot wear you have to order 1/2 size up. They are warm and cozy feeling. The soles are excellent for traction. I retired my Columbia Excellerators for these, even though they had the same cold rating, both -40. The Baltoro HV 400 are bulit better.
If you can find these get them, they sell out fast once winter arrives.
