The North Face Denali Fleece Jacket - Men's

Out of all of The North Face's products, the Men's Denali Jacket stands out as the go-to choice for versatile outdoor wear and around-town style. Whether you use it as an insulating mid-layer on a ski trip to Stowe or stroll through the city in fall, you'll appreciate the warmth and softness of the Denali's Polartec 300 heavyweight fleece. Abrasion-resistant supplex nylon at the elbows and upper body blocks wind and increases water resistance. The North Face's durable and toasty Denali will be your go-to jacket for many seasons to come.

Bottom Line: Super warm, lightweight, and good-looking—it's no wonder the Denali is one of The North Face's best sellers.

I think the Danali is ideal for the Upper Pennisula of Michigan Climate. It has the versatility needed for the changing weather conditions we experince. It has a confort range between 30 and 60 degrees. But it not ideal for cool, windy conditions. I've lost two and keep replacing.

Some people have said that the Denali runs a bit big. Can anyone comment one whether that means, for example, that an XL Denali is a bit bigger then an XL on another fleece jacket? Or do you mean that the sizing chart as linked on this page is incorrect and the sizing chart as stated is slightly smaller then the actual jacket? Thanks.

bob, how big are you? i'm 5'11 about 175 pounds athletic build, and a medium fits me fairly well.

Bob, I have two North Face Jackets the Mountain Series Mountain Jacket which I bought about 7 years ago and the Venture Hyvent which I bought about 6 months ago. The Mountain Jacket is a medium, and the Venture is a small. From what I've noticed TNF has changed the way they are making their clothes fit, they seem to be getting bigger. Older reviews seem to say snug, new review seem to say too big.

I had the Denali in a small, and it was too big around. The arms were the right length and the waist was about the right length (little long), but the shoulders where about 2 inches too big in diameter.

I'm 5'8'' 145lbs, I wear a 38 short coat, and have it taken in about an inch or two in the middle. I'm considering getting a kids size, XL boys is basically the next step down from small.

If your looking for insulation, and general all weather (minus wet) check out Montbell Ultra Light Down series, it's warmer, lighter and less bulky. I generally never take it off.

I haven't had much time yet to really test my Denali in difficult conditions. as for fit, i'm 5'11 175 athletic build and the medium fits me very well, as for wind protection, it has none, but then again it is not designed or marketed for wind protection. i bought it as a midlayer for backcounty hiking/skiing, as well as, daily use. overall, great jacket, would recommend for "daily" wear alone, but definitely want a shell over it if you might run into some wind or precip. if your going to use the fleece more for extreme backcounty than daily use, i would recommend something a bit more technical.

Is it only me or does denali sizes run a little bit too snug?...

Is it only me or does denali sizes run a little bit too snug? I have TNF pumori M and it fits perfectly nice - comfortable, not too snug, but also not too baggy. But TNF Denali M feels a bit too snug. BTW I'm 5'9" 165lbs 31" waist. Thank you.

Actually I find the denali to be a bit generous in the fit next to other jackets. I wear a Medium and find the medium in the Denali to be a little big. I moved to the small and it fits better and looks better. With the Denali I don't usually bundle up too much becuase it is so thick and warm. Maybe if I was wearing a sweater and tee shirt it might be different. My only thought for you is you are over bundling becuase it is cold thus causing the jacket to seem tight.

Don't get me wrong this is a nice fleece and it's very warm and very durable but it's bulky and not wind resistant at all. As soon as there is a little gust of wind you might as well not be wearing a coat at all. This coat has no practical uses outside of casual wearing. For the money buy something that is wind repellent, less bulky, and maybe even water resistant. You will be much happier with a coat like that.

It's the original. Even the military uses a fleece jacket based upon this design. The fit unlike many outdoor jackets from the major suppliers is realistic. Made to perform in the backcountry, with layering, etc.. Not just made to look good in the store or for your friends on your college campus. Take my advice. Don't waste your money learning the hard way, get the original. TNF Denali jacket. It might just outlive you.

Why does everyone love Denali? They are really popular, but are they truly better than the competitors. Or is it just the “in” jacket to buy?

It depends on what you are looking for in a fleece jacket.
The Denali is a classic fleece that is warm, runs a bit big. People like it because is has simple lines and they always put it out in a ton of colors every year.

OVERRATED DUE TO IGNORANCE

By: Anonymous(1)
January 29, 2008

I own several nice TNF jackets ranging from a thin pullover to the warmest summit jacket. I have recently purchased the Denali because I was curious if it actually was the hotness so many claim it is…The TNF description says that Denali is a 3 season jacket, 2 if you’re in the north. I bought it and wore it for about 1.5 weeks. I end up giving it away to my cousin. Throughout the time I purposely hang out in the restaurant fridge at 24F, went on a scooter ride at 35F and sat in my room at 72F. Denali is NOT windproof, NOT waterproof, kind of breathable and most definitely NOT stylish. It is very bulky, the heavy fleece does not adhere to any share other than a square that it is, and the jacket is very uncomfortable as an under layer. I would say that Denali is so popular because it’s the CHEAPES TNF made for wide range of climates. To most people $160 for basically a fleece jacket is top of the line except they forget they’re buying name brand. You will have to spend at least $200 if you want a good windproof/waterproof/slylish/breathable jacket to wear between 20F – 50F. I would recommend you spend enough for at least Sentinel/WindWall Thermal/ STH. I intern for an advertising agent with TNF so I get to wear all of these entry level jackets. I am telling you that these are the least you should be looking for if you’re looking for an all-weather jacket. Besides, do you really want to give people the impression that you’re unable to stand up to the fraternity group mentality…? TNF has at least 15 different options for you, plus the color. My advice is to choose something unique and get away from the simple black color. Take it or leave it. I am just an intern after all. PS If you think you’re a real bad*** then check out the Arc’teryx collections. Arc’teryx is not as numerous but better than TNF and much more stylish!

LUCK

January 18, 2008

The more reviews I read the more I couldn't resist sharing my great fortune. Just got back from a local sporting goods store who always seems to mess the price reductions up on winter clothing this time of year.....anyway, I just purchased this jacket new, from the store for $34.95....No I did not forget to the 1 in front of the 3. The clearance rack the jacket was on sat no more than 10 feet from the rack of North Face Denali's topped with the $165.00 placard! To make it even sweeter the Denali will zip into the standard Columbia Shell, which is why I was looking to begin with. So anyway, if anyone on here is near the Virginia Beach area, there's one more Medium sized Bright Cobalt Blue and dark grey Men's Denali for a price nobody could ever match at the Lynnhaven Sport's Authority. An apology to the site, but there's only one left there at that price so it won't hurt you too badly, besides, haven't read one negative comment about you.

Bought this one in empire blue for my son and he seems to be living in it! He particularly likes the vents as he has worn it working outdoors. He was reluctant to wear it at first because I think he felt that everyone around him wears the black one like a uniform, but one wearing and he was hooked!

North Face Denali Jacket - A Must Have Item!

By: jay smith(1)
January 7, 2008

I don't write reviews. This will be my first! This jacket is squared away. If you are in the market for a fleece jacket, this should be on your short list of jackets to consider. Functional, looks great and has all the features you could ask for. If you carry concealed, you might consider removing the elastic cord at the bottom, so it won't hang you up at a really bad time. In the words of Clint Smith; "One is none, two is one!". Don't buy just one, buy two; in different colors! And buy both of them from this site because their service and prices rock!

Good Fleece

By: Jay Stadtfeld(8)
December 10, 2007

I bought this fleece a couple of years ago, and it's still going strong. I love the pockets on the chest, namely the vertical pocket, which is perfect for storing my phone, while the other holds my keys. Like most North Face, you don't need to worry about the fleece "pilling" when you put it in the wash. The drawstrings at the bottom are a convenient feature on those days when you're romping through the snow. It has kept me warm on its own throughout the Ohio winters, with (at most) a hoodie underneath if it gets that cold. Complaints about this jacket? There really aren't all that many. The only complaint I could think of is that almost everyone has the exact same one.

The North Face Denali rocks!! I originally wanted one and bought the Columbia Ballistic Sweater thinking it would be a cheaper substitution. After one week I returned the Columbia and bought the Denali, and couldn't be happier! It is MUCH warmer, sheds water, and is an overall great fit. Yes it is a lot to pay for a fleece jacket, but it is definitely worth every penny. It is now almost mid-December and we've had 2 New Hampshire snows already, and TNF Denali has kept me incredibly warm through both. I plan on wearing my Denali for years to come. Overall, an awesome jacket!!

I love my Denali and though I wore it for many years my son has taken it off to college. He had alot of choices but that was the jacket he took. It's very warm but not windproof, has great zippers and pit zips. Best of all it is not a "trim fit" garment like many others and allows us older and slightly rounder folks to still fit into a performance jacket. Lots of great pockets and the exterior nylon brush guards do a good job of preventing wear at the elbows and shoulders. Now if only it were windproof.

I have had a Denali for quite sometime, and I tell you, this is the fleece. If you get caught in a small drizzle no worries, nylon reinforced shoulders will keep you dry until you can get your rain jacket on. June 27, 2007

I've had this jacket for two years now and it has been everywhere from downtown coffee shops to the tops of peaks in Alaska, Uzbekistan, and New Zealand. With the windstopper it's warmer than the inside of a cow so the only reason why I ever even wear a shell over it is if there's precip or if it's wicked cold. It's awesome for those really cold days but it might be a little overkill if you're just looking for a windbreaking layer.
