Thule The Stacker Carrier

Thule The Stacker Carrier
The Stacker is a standby for hauling whitewater kayaks on your roof rack. Evolved considerably from its beginnings as an undistinguished vertical loop, the Thule Stacker now has a separate upper bridge that makes it easy to tie your boats down. The Stacker holds up to four boats and folds down for a cleaner look and reduced wind profile when not in use.
Bottom Line: Stack ‘em up, roll ‘em out

This kayak rack item is a well crafted, nice looking and relatively inexpensive answer to carrying your boats. You can put four kayaks on a small car securely with some effort. It's a bit harder to turn your kayak up on its side and strap in down to the Stacker than it is to slide it up on a cradle carrier, but if you need to carry more than two kayaks and cost is an issue, then this carrier fills the bill. It fits 95% of factory crossbars and works with Yak bars as well. The J style carriers from Thule and Yak work fine, but check out the cost. The Stackers fold down when not in use--helps a bit with gas mileage and looks better. My advice is to strap each kayak to the Stacker and then another strap around both kayaks and the Stacker. More straps means bomb-proof security at 70mph, not to mention the turbulence from big rigs on the interstate. This is a good looking kayak carrier that delivers. Easy on, easy off.

Write your question here.I am wondering if a can safely put four single kayaks on top of my Toyota 4 door Camry? It has no gutter racks. Both Thule and Yakima web sites indicate that their stacker racks will fit on the Toyota Camry. But will they fit four kayaks safely? Thanks!

The main thing you will want to consider is how wide all four kayaks will be when positioned on the rack including the width of the rack itself. You'll then need to make sure that this overall width doesn't exceed the width of your bars.
Since every boat is shaped a bit differently the only way to know for sure is to get the rack and boats and try it out. If you can get all four boats loaded and properly strapped down, then they aren't going to go anywhere in transit.
To gain extra width you can always use slightly longer crossbars, although I try to avoid this whenever possible.

This product is a great option for carrying multiple kayaks and not having to purchase two single kayak carrier systems (at a much higher cost).

I tend to carry both surfboards and kayaks in the summer, but I don't want to separate racks to take on and off. Does anyone who has this think that you could snuggly fit something as skinny as a surfboard or two?

I've got my Stacker on a 2000 Jeep Grand Cherokee and I'm carrying (2) 10' kayaks on it. I love it. I can single handedly have my kayaks up on the carrier and tied down in less than 10 min. If it's windy, having another person to hang on to the the first kayak while loading the second is helpful. Another helpful tip is to have your straps in place; next up go the kayaks, toss the straps over the top and then tie them down...simple as that. And I'm looking VERY COOL when going down the road, too. : )-

I want to buy 3 sit-in Kayaks for Xmas. I have a 2004 Pontiac Montana extended cab mini van with a factory rack. Inside width between rack bars is 38". Outside width of bars measures 41 1/2." Can I carry the three kayaks? What is the best way to go?

The rack will probably hold the size but weight will be the issue. I have two sit on top boats and a tandem kayak. The sit on tops weigh 60lbs plus and the tandem weighs 70lbs plus. The capacity of my rack is 125 lbs. on my Honda accord. The only way to take the 3 boats is to take 2 cars. You may ne able to increase capacity with a hitch mount rack to help out the roof rack. Hope this helps.

The Simple solution!

This really is a great and simple solution to carrying more than one kayak and not having to buy a number of different holders. You can carry up to 4 kayaks with this thing depending on the size of the vehicle, Now that's some serious bang for the buck!
It lays down when not used so you don't look like the hundreds of people that have kayak cradles and never have a kayak in them.
One of the only downsides is it can be hard getting the strips through the top of the holders and around the kayak if you don't have a longer reach since the kayak is standing on its side.

The Stacker works great! We easily carry three kayaks (one tandem, two singles) atop our Honda Odyssey. Install the straps through the stacker first and lay them out toward the front and rear of the vehicle. After the kayaks are placed on top a simple flip of the strap and you are ready to secure!

Go to Thule's site and use their 'Rack My Car' function.I'll also put in a shameless plug for Yakima. I think they make a substantially better product…for less money. It's win-win for the consumer.Yakima 'Fit My Car' Tool:http://yakima.com/dealer.aspx

The Thule stacker works great on our Saturn Redline Vue. At first we were worried we couldn't put any car rack on our Redline Vue due to the sports package roof. However with the Saturn Crossbars, the stacker works great.

Thule Stacker

I bought these so I can have the option of carrying 2 or more kayaks and still be able to pull the car into the garage without removing it. The "J" rack was too high. The Thule Stacker folds down. The Yakima stacker takes up less space on the bars, but if you have square bars, it doesn't fold down. So the Thule is working out well for me.

I drive a Nissan Sentra with no roof rack system as of yet. Do I need to get rails first before getting this product? Any recommendations for good rails for a small car? DO you think I will be able to put 2 kayaks on a Sentra?

You don't need to put rails on your car. If your car has 4 doors all you'll need is Thule's 400XT Aero Foot Kit with the correct fit kit for your car, as well as the load bars. You can definetly put 2 kayaks on the car. Either the Thule stacker or the Hullaport Pro would be my reccomendations. The Stacker will offer the option to carry more boats and it's a better deal. You will only need one stacker regardless of how many boats you'll need to carry. A 50" load bar is reccomended for your car. I'd got with the next size up which I believe is a 58" it could make all the difference on what you can put on top later on.I have a sentra as well...you can put four ww kayaks with 58" cross bars...I don't even have a stacker--just talk to someone who knows how to use straps well, it'll save you 100 bucks...

works super well. I also had one kayak on top of my car. I say had because the kayak was stolen right out of the rack.... BUT this rack is still locked to my car so it's not going anywhere.
This rack is really easy to use and was quick to install with my existing Thule bars. I seriously think it took all of 10 minutes to pull the packaging apart and throw it on top. I love not needing assistance to get my gear on and off of my suv. When putting my Kayak on top and securing it to my SUV it would take about 15 min total. I also have 4 Thule systems and this has been firmly attached to my SUV since 2007 and has seen every weather condition possible. What is great about Thule is that their products are designed to not screw up your gear or your car. I am defiantly a loyal supporter of Thule.

I just got this rack and love it. It works really well for whitewater boats. I've even found that the space in the middle of the rack works well for carrying paddles.
