Timbuk2 Classic Messenger Bag

Some say the Timbuk2 Classic Messenger is the bag that started it all. This simple rig, originally built as a rugged necessity for urban bicycle warriors, quickly became the hippest under-the-radar carry-all for everyone from metro commuters to tree-hugging granola munchers. The highest quality materials and construction make the Timbuk2 Classic an extremely durable, long-lasting bag that will become a hand-me-down for generations to come. Want to know the best part? Thanks to the waterproof vinyl inner lining, the Classic Messenger doubles as a killer beer cooler. Just throw in some ice and some malty ones and be set for a mellow day of Frisbee golf in the park.

Bottom Line: It's a bag, it's a cooler, it's an international symbol of fuel conservation. Commuters unite!

This ultra-durable, waterproof bags lets you ride in style

By: SpriteMV (34)

I use this bag every day when commuting on my bike. My absolute favorite thing about it is something I have seen in no other messenger bags - the strap has a quick release cinch allowing you to hike the bag way up on your back while riding, and let it back down to your waist when you arrive so you don't look like a wannabe hipster. The ballistic nylon is ultra-durable. I don't think it will EVER wear out. Additionally, the bag has a completely waterproof lining allowing you to wear it in absolute downpours while keeping the contents dry (which I have on many occasions) as long as the cover flap is situated appropriately. I like the organizer pockets on the inside and the brightly colored key ring is a bonus. The only thing that gets a little annoying is that the Velcro fastener that fastens the top closed is a bit excessive. Don't expect to discretely open your bag if you sneak into lecture late... RRRIIIIIIIP!! However, it's no longer a problem for me - there's nothing a little duct tape can't fix.

Customer support was very helpful, this was their response:

I did a little research on the shoulder strap in question and found out that 2008 model Classic Messenger bags do come with the padded shoulder strap, but previous years do not. All our stock is currently the 2008 line, so yes, the bag will come with a padded shoulder strap.

Timbuk 2 classic messenger bag

This bag is awesome. There is not a day that goes buy with out me wearing this bag. I am a college student and biker. I ride my bike about 15 to 20 miles to work in the city. At first when i had the bag, the major strap was moving all over my shoulder.. but i fixed that with buying the the comfort strap (10+ shipping=20) which was impossible to find so i had to order it from the timbuk 2 website... took 1.5 weeks with ground shipping from cali to philly. But it was soo worth the wait. Now my bag is perfect. I wear the bag tight on my bag with also the underarm strap on so the bag is one with my body. Since having this bad it has enough space for all my college books when riding to campus. When riding to work, there is enough space for food, and anything i buy shopping. I read alot of reviews on this bag and this site has the lowest price and they helped me out. Timbuk2> Chrome

I bought my Timbuk2 messenger 12 years ago and am just now looking at replacing it. It's still hangin' tough like NKOTB but my commute requires a larger size. If you are even thinking about buying one, do it. You won’t be sorry.

The perfect bag. Especially for a guy. Cell phone pocket, one for my wallet, and a keychain leash. Couldn't be happier.

This has been a great bag. I got the laptop sleeve and slide my laptop in plus all the food, munchies, and stuff I drag to work every day. I have used it while on my longboard a few times, just use the extra strap to hold it to my body better. I have the Large and it carries a lot of stuff. I use to to carry my stuff to yoga as well. It has a lot of organizer pockets and places for your id, credit cards and you can sip in your money in a pocket. So you don't need to carry your purse if you have this with you.

awesome bag!

I bought this messenger bag, over all others, because it can be used as a cooler. What I didn't know was just how AWESOME it would be for my daily commute. Lunch, laptop, everything! I will say, the large size is a little bigger than I thought. Be sure you need the space if you go for something bigger than the medium. Cheers!

Messenger bag

By: kkollman (6)
December 15, 2006

I've had this bag for about 5 months now and I absolutely love it. It is the greatest bag I have ever owned. It hold's a ton of stuff whether I use it for school or if I am going somewhere for the night. The bag is completely waterproof and when you put the second strap and tighten it down using on bike is the best. I would recommend this bag to anyone.

Car Friendly

By: xviiisions (28)
December 11, 2006

I ride a 10-speed everyday to school and occasionally I get into some guffs with cars. Instead of carrying a regular pack I have moved to the Classic Messenger Bag. They are super durable and are fairly resistant should a car decide to hit you. The thick fabric helps to keep your items protected from water and all of nature’s forces. Also the strap is a little uncomfortable but can be adjusted to fit any torso.

Great for school

By: ghitch (13)
December 7, 2006

This bag is ideal for a school bag. You can fit lots of books and notebooks in it. It also has interior pockets for your pens and calculator. The exterior pocket holds my cell phone easily and makes it super easy to get at. The shoulder strap would be more comfortable with a pad but other than that, it's great!! I've used it on my bike before and it's awesome.

Bomber

By: yada. yada. yada (172)

These bags are bomber. I'm really hard on gear, and though I throw this around, it is still going strong! I have the small size, and though it fits all the stuff I need on most days, my laptop has wider screen, so it can't fit in my laptop sleeve and then in the bag (its fine sans sleeve). Other than that, though, all is more than well.
