Shimano America XT Shadow Rear Derailleur

The Shimano XT Shadow Rear Derailleur's super low-profile design improves durability and reduces the odds of damage in a narrow passage. Single tension construction prevents the derailleur from hitting the chain on rough terrain, and direct routing reduces snags. The XT Shadow's strong return spring allows for precise shifting.

Bottom Line: Replace your trekking bike's fickle rear derailleur with the Shimano XT Shadow and upgrade to smooth operator status.

Shifts

My last derailleur broke in two on a flat, smooth trail. Got this one as a replacement, and suddenly my shifting became much smoother. Should have broken the old derailleur earlier... The third adjustment screw is nice.

I wouldn't recommend it. Go for the 8 speed instead, which you can still find with some vendors.

Very clean shifting, what you'd expect from Shimano XT components. I got the SGS and its a little longer cage than my old derailleur, however it makes climbing much easier and allows a smoother transfer to all gears.
