686 Smarty Original Cargo Pant - Men's
The 686 Men's Smarty Original Cargos are the pants that started it all. Highly waterproof breathable materials and fully taped seams ensure you stay dry, no matter your riding style. These loose snowboard pants include a tall fit for lankier dudes or park monkeys who like to sag. They also include a removable fleece track pant liner for extra warmth on the hill or casual comfort on the car ride home. Classic cargo styling gives you pockets for your tool, ID, and pass. A hidden zip stash pocket comes in handy for backcountry safety meetings. Large vents add climate control, and adjustable cuff-saver hems and Cordura panels ensure the Smarty Originals will continue to set the bar for seasons to come.
Bottom Line: Spend the day munching powder in the 686 Smarty Originals, and then ride home comfortably in the fleece liner.

Best pants for the money

You can't get a better snow pant without spending twice as much or more.
One word about the fit - I have a 33"-34" waist and the mediums are way too big. The pants fall off of my waist. I have them in a small and the fit is absolutely perfect.
does the 686 smarty orignial have gators?

Yes it does, GAITORS are included on this pant and are even equipped w/ BOA flaps in case you're running Boa boots.

They are as good as it gets. Fit great and they leave room for maneuvering. I just wore them in 10 degree weather with 30 mph winds and they kept me warm and dry. BC.com was also great with customer service and fast shipping. Thanks!

I enjoy snowmobiling as well. I'm tired of snow going down my boots when I step off my sled into powder. Does this pant clip into my boots laces. Hold the pant down and not slide up to the top of my boot?

It does. I have these pants and use that clip option for my boots when snowmobiling as well. Great pants!

Awesome Pants...Run Big

These pants are some of the best I've owned. The liner is great because you can just unzip the pants, slide them off and you're good to go for the ride home. They'll keep you warm in any conditions and you can take the liner out in the spring for warmer weather. The only downside, which Backcountry makes pretty clear is that they run big. My only gripe is that they are way too long so when you are wearing shoes on the way up the hill, they drag all over the ground. They are definitely on the baggy side so if that's your style, no need to move up a size.

Ok...another fit question...I'm 6'4" and 220lbs...a true 36 waist, 36(at least) inseam. Will the XL's work? or too baggy? not long enough? Help!

Go with the XL. I am 6'4" and they are long enough for me. The larges would probably be too short and maybe too tight. I have to wear XXL because my waist is a 40". I tried on the XL and they are long enough and you can always adjust the waist smaller.

I've worn this pant a couple times now and I have to say it is one of the best ski pants I've ever used. The removable liner is key. I skied on a 55 degree sunny day with the liners taken out and the vents halfway open and was super comfortable. I've also skied at Loveland (LoveWind) in 5 degree temps with 50 mph gusts and didn't need any other layer underneath. The liners inside kept me nice and toasty. The fit runs a little big so size down when you order. The fit is also a little roomy but not too baggy. I'm in my thirties and don't really want to sport the hoodlum look. The pants have plenty of well thought out pockets with both zipper closures and flaps to keep out the pow. So far I haven't had any leaking through the material even when sitting in the snow for ten minutes which is a real plus. Overall, I can't think of anything to gripe about and I'm a pretty picky dude.

I'm 6'1" 185 lbs and usually wear a 34/34 street pant. What size of these pants should i get? I've been told both medium and large, but i'm concerned that both of these won't be long enough.

A review below states that "I am 6'1" 180 lbs and don't like my gear fitting tight and the Medium fit perfect." So I think he already answered your question. The description also states that the pants are more of a baggier fit, and are also a bit longer, so I wouldn't worry about them being too short. And if they are, you can send them back and they'll send you a large. Backcountry has great customer service.

These pants are awesome. I'm a skier and have been in search of a pant with cargo pockets (I like pockets that are on top of the leg, not within the leg, so as not to put pressure on your legs when bending around), good breathability (with vents), good fit, stylish looks, and last but very importantly removable insulation. It took me forever to find the perfect pants but I finally did thanks to a friend that boards. These pants have it all: tons of pockets (plenty of them with great closure and with excellent touches like sub-pockets for locker keys, hook/clasps for attaching car keys, etc), hooks for lift passes, vents, jacket snaps to keep the powder skirt attached on heavy powder days, very comfortable fit that's not overly baggy (I prefer a slim yet comfortable fit), and style! Most importantly is the KILLER fleece track pant liner that zips into the pant for use on cold days. I LOVE this liner! The liner even has snaps on the legs for rolling up the legs and snapping into a 3/4 position, perfect for skiers (686 sells a Smarty Access pant with liners that are only 3/4 length, but these I couldn't find these anywhere to check out). For you boarders the gaiters have Boa slots (that close with hook/loop fastener covers if you don't need 'em) and a small 8mm/10mm wrench in a stash pocket near the end of one leg that doubles as a bottle opener. I can't say enough about these pants :)

I own these in the green color, which unfortunetly isn't sold here, or is sold out, and they are by far the best pair of pants I have ever wore, and seen. The quality on them, and attention to detail is insane, and they are super comfy, super warm.
