Salomon Explorer GTX Hiking Boot - Men's
Good thing you're wearing the Salomon Men's Explorer GTX Hiking Boot, because the weather man was way off this time. Heavy rain pummels you on your should've-been-sunny backpacking trip, but you don't mind so much. Your feet are dry thanks to a seam-sealed Gore-Tex liner and gusseted tongue. AutoFIT memory foam has formed a custom fit around your heel, and EVA midsoles absorb shock with every footstep. Rubber toe caps protect the uppers from stubs and scrapes, while a 2D advanced Chassis midsole guards your underside from sharp stones. Contagrip outsoles give your feet firml traction even though the rocks you're walking on are wet.
Bottom Line: A little rain never hurt anyone. But it's raining more than a little, and you're feet are staying dry.

Salomon does fit wider than most footwear brands. However if you have "really wide" feet then I would suggest searching for a boot that specifically comes in a wide fitting option.

Great boot from Solomon

Absolutely great boot for a lightweight but very supportive hiking boot. Happen to like hightops for the uneven terrain. The Goretex is warm because it does not breathe that well but that is the only dislike. Footbed is well made and great at cushioning. Details of toe guard are common now in most boots and this is a good one. Bought them mainly for snowshoeing but the hiking has been great.

I have the Salomon Rivertrek GTX boots the top lace hooks are similar to this model and after closer inspection they’re definitely not plastic, maybe coated metal or alloy?

Fail

These boots were purchased 3 months ago. They are comfortable, and had no break in period, BUT. The rubber outsole is already coming separated from the softer foam rubber it is attached to. I only put thirty three trail miles on them- a 3 day camping/hiking trip on the Illinois River Trail. Far from rugged, super rocky terrain. I was planning to hike the Oregon section of the PCT with them (430 miles) next month, but unfortunately I feel these $154.95 boots are unworthy and would probably end up letting me down half way through my trip.

I think these would be great for a long hike or backcpack trip but not carry more than 45 pounds. they are really comfy and supportive

I personally wouldn't use these for long hikes w/ a heavier pack. You might consider the La Sportiva Mulaz GTX or equivalent.Hope that helps.

These are just a bit wider than normal. You might consider .5 up for a little thicker socks.Hope that helps.
