Salomon XT Wings Trail Running Shoe - Men's

The Salomon Men's XT Wings Shoe boasts the rugged strength and durability for any trail run, but the comfort alone will have you looking for every chance to wear them. With the help of a foot-hugging asymmetrical Quicklace system, and pronation control in the midsole, the XT Wings WP Shoe provides unparalleled fit and comfort both on the trail and off. Salomon's versatile, Running Contragrip sole tames any trail; from rocky descents to sandstone side trips. The antimicrobial Ortholite footbed puts an end to foot funk, while the Agile Chassis Skeleton supports your arches and provides a stable platform for rocky and rough terrain, reducing foot fatigue and chances of a rolled ankle.

Bottom Line: A killer trail running shoe more comfortable than your bed slippers? Believe it.

Great for trail and road..and looks cool

By:
September 15, 2008

The Salomon XT Wings are great shoes. I wanted something that I can use for trails and on the road (I had top-of-the-range Asics for the road before). I took them for its first spin and they behaved well. The heal landing on downhills is very soft and remarkable stable. I did feel some of the larger stones through the frontfoot, but shoes with protective plates to prevent this are much heavier (and squeek). The outer sole seem more durable than a road shoe but still has good grip, but not like sticky rubber. Don't see this as negative as my super grip sticky rubber shoes lasted only 2 months. So if you want a light trail shoe that works on the road too, this shoe will do.. and it looks great.

Fit for the road

By:
August 5, 2008

I ran the San Francisco Marathon yesterday wearing the XT Wings. I had my doubts at first when a small but painful blister formed during an 18 mile combination road and trail training run. One thing I need to point out here is that the 18 miler was also the first time I wore the shoes so a break-in period may have helped with the blister problem. Anyway, as soon as I switched to a slightly thicker socks (Smartwool Adrenalines), all my foot problems went away. The shoes exceeded my expectations during the marathon. It provided adequate traction and support throughout the race, especially over the Golden Gate bridge which was noticeably slippery last year while wearing my Asics Kayanos. It provided a comfortable ride and the laces remained snug and held in place. But my most important criteria in judging a running shoe is how I feel after the race. Absolutely no pain or discomfort. What more can you ask from a running shoe? The only thing I have against this shoe is its weight. It is a bit lighter than my Asics Kayanos but heavier than my most favorite trail-only running shoe... the Salomon Speedcross 2.

Nice colors!

I'm a faithful Salomon shoe user but found these shoes to be a little too high sitting for my liking. One of the reasons I like Salomons is because the have a nice low platform. These are a tad higher than norm.

These are by far the most comfortable pair of shoes that I have ever had on my feet. You DO get what you pay for.

Supportive. Fast. Worth the money.

By:
July 15, 2008

Bought these and I regularly run up the Big Cottonwood / Little Cottonwood canyon hiking trails here in Salt Lake City, Utah. Supportive, the overall sole height is a little high but not into ankle rolling territory. Quick lacing system rocks, haven't had any issues. These are some of the lightest trail running shoes I have ever worn. Fit: Wide forefoot. Med-high instep support. Narrow(ish) heel pocket. Awesome shoe, worth every dollar.

Good shoes but they are spendy. Sizing seems normal.

I like em!

By:
June 11, 2008

I'll give them 4 stars, cause a 5 star shoe is nearly impossible to find I think. I just got these to replace my Salomon GCS XCR. So far I am really pleased. I run on pavement with them, feels fine. I like how the have a thicker heal than the XA Comp... That was my other choice. They fit a little larger than the other Salmon's I have had. I wore 11.5, but have an 11 in the wings, but I like a tighter fit. The reason I didn't go with the WP ones, is cause of the HEAT of the XCR GCS shoes I had before. These are cooler, but still warm. I haven't run anywhere in the dirt besides my yard, and have not taken them on an overnighter or anything, but so far I like them. Good grip, cushy, tight on foot... negatives? They don't breath super well. A little "clunky" compared to the XA Comp. Pavement = XT WINGS | Woods = XA Comp or GCS

No I don't think so. If you fit in an Adidas shoe, you will fit the same in a Salomon. They are narrow if anything.

Does this shoe fit the same as other Salomon shoes? I've read reviews that say to buy a size bigger. Just curious if others wear the same size in this Salomon as they have in others. Thanks!

That's funny what the reviews say. I had the Salomon GCS XCR in 11.5, they fit perfect! Then I wore them out... got the XT wings non-WP in an 11. They are a TINY bit smaller, but fit really well. I like my shoes a little tighter.

Light and comfy

Like all Salomon runners these fit my foot like a glove. Only one trail run in them so far but they felt great. Very stable. Forefoot seems like right blend of not too stiff and not too soft.

Not For Trail Running

By:
April 28, 2008

I have been using Solomon XA Pro 3Ds on and off for 18 months. I was hoping these XT Wings would make up for all the deficiencies in the XA Pro. Boy, was I wrong. These shoes are very flexi and still have a soft bottom. After using them to trail run in Hawaii and in Utah, I have concluded that they just aren't designed for serious trail running. I'm tired of the rock bruises through the thin soft soles and the heal cup rubs a lot.

I have used Solomon XA Pro 3Ds for lightweight backpacking for a number of years. The 3Ds provided very good cushioning from heal strikes. How do these shoes compare?

I really like the XT wings. I had the Salomon GCS XCR, they are similar to the XA Pro 3Ds, but seem to have a thicker sole kinda like the XT wings. I like em. I run on pavement with them and it feels good. I'm 6'3" 200lb.
