Salomon Explorer GTX Boot - Women's

Designed for the ‘Geekender' who busts her hump Monday to Friday, the lightweight Explorer GTX features a waterproof upper and a premium XCR GORE-TEX membrane so neither rain, nor sleet, nor snow will deter you from achieving peace of mind on weekend backpacking trips. Lock your laces and climb the path of enlightenment (or at least en-hightenment) knowing that the rugged 2D Advanced Chassis, the durable Trek Contagrip outsole, and a dual density EVA midsole keep your feet secure, comfortable, and dialed-in to their mission. At the end of a hike your feet won't smell like roses, but thanks to and Ortholite sockliner, they won't smell like compost either.

Bottom Line: Rescue yourself from the maze.

Great boot, especially for wide feet

By:

nice fit, especially if you have a wide or square foot. Has excellent grip and the high boot doesn't rub on the ankles. Does great for going over steep, dusty, muddy, brushy, rocky, and so on terrain. Keeps water out of the boot unless it comes in from the top (a weakness any boot has no matter what type of waterproofing it has). No need to break the boot in, it bent in all the right places from the start. The laces are a bit long and you have to double knot them twice to keep them from unraveling if you are bushwhacking. I would recommend getting a better insole for the boot (something with archsupport perhaps not Dr, Schole's,) since it doesn't offer much cushioning against your foot's impact with the ground.

If the sole is not supported by a metal shank, it is not recommended to use crampons with this boot. You would need something more substantial like a mountaineering boot. At least that is what I was told by a shoe specialist when I was looking for a solid high top boot. Good Luck!

Does this boot have a wide toebox? I've always worn Salomon
hiking boots because of the comfort and toe room. The above-
ankle Salomons are hard to find.
