Salomon XT Wings Trail Running Shoe - Women's

The Salomon Women's XT Wings Shoe boasts the rugged strength and durability for any trail run, but the comfort alone will have you looking for every chance to wear them. With the help of a women's-specific fit, a foot-hugging asymmetrical Quicklace system, and pronation control in the midsole, the XT Wings WP Shoe provides unparalleled fit and comfort both on the trail and off. Salomon's versatile, Running Contragrip sole tames any trail; from rocky descents to sandstone side trips. The antimicrobial Ortholite footbed puts an end to foot funk, while the Agile Chassis Skeleton supports your arches and provides a stable platform for rocky and rough terrain, reducing foot fatigue and chances of a rolled ankle.

Bottom Line: A killer trail running shoe more comfortable than your bed slippers? Believe it.

Stands up to the Test

By: Backcountry.com Sponsored Athlete

This is the best trail running shoe that I have ever used. It stands up to the tests of both mileage and time. A quality shoe that is well made. It is a light trail shoe but yet sturdy enough to handle tougher terrain. This is the most versatile running shoe that I've used for anything from the Imogene Pass Run to the Maroon Bells Traverse to tough climbing approaches and search and rescue missions. It's got excellent tread, great absorbtion, and a stable platform. Plus, it's a nice, sleeker looking running/trail shoe. Versatility is one of it's best assets. I have put in my own footbed (see SOLE or SUPERFEET) and that makes it all the more suited and longer lasting for personal use.

Got these with the 20% off coupon, so the price was good. These are my third pair of Salomon trail runners. They fell just as cushy if not more than the XA Pro 3D, light, too. Same roomy toe box, great traction on loose over hardpack, sand and rocky trails. The ability to shove the top of the laces in the top of the tongue is also a neat feature. The only drawback is that the light blue color gets obviously dirty fast. I wish they made it in grey with a light blue accent. I will definitely keep buying Salomon shoes.

Write your question here...I really like these shoes but I am a guy and the corresponding size that I would need in women's is most likely a 13 since I wear an 11 in men's. It appears as though the sizes listed only go up to an 11 in women's, is there any way that I could special order my size? I like the cherry-x/autobahn color and i believe that a man could easily get away with wearing this shoe also.

Not going to happen. It is only possible to special order 11.5 and 12 through salomon. Plus, the shoe is designed for female feet so it probably won't fit you so well anyway. Stick with the dude's version.

Great in Afghanistan...

By:
June 27, 2008

I am currently deployed in Afghanistan with the 101st Airborne. We run nearly everyday here and over quite a vast terrain. These shoes are perfect and feel absolutely wonderful. I highly recommend Salomon shoes and will definitely purchase their products in the future. The laces are a bonus, but the real comfort lies in the soles. My feet never get hot spots anymore, they stay pretty dry even in 100 degree weather, and the arch is just right considering that is where I usually have a problem with shoes. I have odd arches that have fallen after wearing boots for quite a few years. Adidas were the only other shoes that had a close arch insert, but just weren't quite right. I also have slightly wide feet and had no problem buying these shoes online in a regular size. They fit and feel great, which is hard to come by!

For the ankle issue I would go with a high top. Something like the MON0084 will work. If those are not what you want you can always go low top with ankle braces, that is what I do because I prefer low tops and the braces help a ton.

They are well cushioned, well ventilated and supportive. I have wide feet and over pronate. These shoes feel great, they didn't rub or hurt anywhere right out of the box. My first time wearing them was a 12 mile conditioning hike, then i wore them on a 9.5 mile trail run in over 80 degree heat. I'll never buy anything but Salomon.

Penny,When looking through the item description and Tech Specs it will usually say GTX or Gortex if the shoe has that particular waterproof membrane. Take a look at the trail shoes at http://www.backcountry.com/store/group/169/Womens-Trail-Run-Shoes.html and it should be easier to spot which shoes have GTX. I have had a good experience with the men's version of the Salomon XA Pro 3D Ultra GTX Trail Running shoe http://www.backcountry.com/store/SAL1397/Salomon-XA-Pro-3D-Ultra-GTX-Trail-Running-Shoe-Womens.html. This shoe is light weight, waterproof, and comfortable. The other is The North Face Ultra 104 GTX XCR Trail Running Shoe http://www.backcountry.com/store/TNF2767/The-North-Face-Ultra-104-GTX-XCR-Trail-Running-Shoe-Womens.html. It is waterproof, a little more rugged (stiff and heavier), and provided more comfort then the Salomon. Hope that helps.Mahalo, Sumo

Simply the best

By:
March 10, 2009

These are my third pair of Salomon's. Previously I have purchased the 3D Pro, but felt like a change (and I like the colour, being a girl and all). I do mosly off-road running, about 1 to 1.5 hours 3-4 times a week. They are the best trail running shoe available. Recently I participated a a 21km 1/2 marathon event, which was being run on the road so I bought some road-running shoes, but didn't like them as much as my Salomon's so ended up changing shoes at the last minute! The weather was awful and it rained for the full 1 hour and 50 minutes of the run. I did get a small blister on the ball of my right foot, but feel this was mainly due to my feet being completely soaked the whole time and don't feel it was because of the shoe. I wouldn't hesitate to recommend them and would definatley purchase again.

XT Wings are solid

By: Backcountry.com Employee
June 19, 2009

I am a tried and true Salomon trail shoe fan, but this is the first time I have worn the XT Wings. I like the wider base and of course the lacing system is really easy, but I did get blisters on the inside of my heal the first few times I wore them. The shoes are sturdy yet light and do the trick on the trails now that they are worn in. I agree that these shoes run mostly true to size, or if anything slightly large. I'm usually a 6.5 - 7.0 and the pair I have are 6.5 with a little extra room to them.

I am going to participate in a 3 day, 60 mile walk for the cure

I am going to participate in a 3 day, 60 mile walk for the cure event in Nov. in Florida. Not bought Salomons before, lots to choose from. Is the XT Wings Trail runner shoe a good choice or do you have a better recommendation??

love the shoes...lace system, not so much

By:
June 8, 2009

These shoes are amazing and initially I was psyched with the lacing system b/c you can really get a tight fit - which is usually a problem for me because I have super narrow feet....but...i've had two pairs in a row on which the lacing system has broken. On any other shoe this might not be a big deal, but there is no way to fix the laces, and if they break when you are in the middle of a 15 mile trail run, in the rain, it sucks.

That being said - I'd like to stress again that these are great trail running shoes, I just wish they'd make the lacing system 1) more durable and 2) replaceable.

not for gnarly terrain

By: Backcountry.com Employee
June 6, 2009

i thought these were a little "soft" for anything tougher than a jeep road. I found I was constantly tweaking my foot in these since they are not very stiff....I still like them a lot for gentler terrain and I actually use them a lot as basic clogs since I don't have to tie them

Fabulous Trail Shoe

By:
November 28, 2008

I've raced up to 30 hour adventure races in these shoes and they are THE BEST. Great for your typical trail run and are even okay for stretches on pavement. Dry really quickly and stand up to just about anything. Great traction.

Great for pronators, too

By:
December 15, 2008

My favorite things about this shoe besides the comfort is their breathability, and they're great for pronators. I've never been in a more reliable shoe, and I buy a new pair of XT Wings every three months...long enough to let the old ones wear and the new ones break in.

I just bought these shoes and had only worn them twice before hiking 40 miles of the foothills trail in them. They really impressed me and were extremely comfortable and durable. They molded to my feet quickly and gave me all the support I needed!

Works for this tender foot

By: Backcountry.com Employee
December 3, 2008

I just started trail running this summer after 5 years battling Plantar Fasciitis. I was concerned that the harder sole would bother my feet, but they felt great the very first time that I used them. I normally wear a 7.5 - 8 shoe and got the 8 which fits perfectly. I like the roomy toe box and the pull type lacing. I tend to over pronate and turn my ankles. These shoes provide great stability. I'm so happy to be on my feet again and enjoying the trails!
