Salomon XA Comp 3 GTX Trail Running Shoe - Men's

The Salomon Men's XA Comp 3 GTX is the weatherproof version of Salomon's classic trail running shoe. Whether you're a competitive adventure runner or just out for a jog, the Comp 3 GTX's Gore-Tex XCR will keep your feet dry and comfortable. Salomon's patented 2-D chassis places a shaped plastic shank under the Comp 3's insole that controls twisting on variable surfaces. The XA Comp 3's toothy, Running Contragrip outsole blends several different hardness combinations with a toothy tread to give outstanding traction over a wide range of conditions. You'll appreciate the open-cell structure of the Ortholite insole on long, strenuous runs, since it allows your feet to breathe better than traditional insoles.

Bottom Line: The Salomon XA Comp 3 blend of stability, ventilation, and weather protection make trail runs safer and more comfortable.

Salomon make awesome trail runner. This one is no exception. With the GorTex lining and the quick lacing system it's certainly done job in conditions so far.

Sweet show, terrible sole

I'm thru-hiking the Appalachian Trail and i just got a pair of these to replace my 600+ mile cheap new balances that were seriously blown out. Within four days and about 75 miles i have begun to destroy the Salomon's soles. There are chunks missing and the whole rubber section is coming unglued. There is a flaw in their construction; the tread is glued onto the foam sole and is not one contiguous piece, but is formed so that some of the foam is exposed. if you look at the picture, anything on the bottom that is not grey is foam and not rubber tread. In any case, its a real shame that it took me only four days to destroy the sole because i love pretty much everything else about these shoes. They are totally waterproof (wear gaiters if you want to stay dry while hiking) and the uppers are super tough. Lets clarify: i tore these up on one of the rockiest sections on the AT (northern Pennsylvania) doing a string of 20 mile days at speed and a 12-hour 30 mile day yesterday, all with a 25 pound pack. Not everyone will test the limits of durability to this extent, BUT, these shoes have failed the ultimate test, and you all should take note.

I love the shoes, but they seem to have a narrow toe box and are too tight in the forefoot. The lacing system is very cool and works well. I especially like the harder toe area as I run in an area where there are a lot of roots and I stub my toe every run it seems like. The shoes are too new to really give a great report yet. I am heading out now for another trial run with them. The real test will be the JFK 50.

Great foot support. Light enough for the running I do. Comfortable the first time I put them on. I would buy them again in a heartbeat. In fact I am considering a second pair.

Perfect Travel Shoe

I'm fortunate enough to be able to travel for, mostly to ski destinations. This shoe is great for traveling light, as in it's the only pair of footwear you need aside from ski boots. The lacing system is easy to get on and off, nice when you're fingers are numb after a day of skiing, and you're feet won't get wet mucking around in slush and puddles. I haven't run in them yet, but I'd assume they work well for a jog or trail run, so you can leave your running shoes at home right there. Oh, and they are great for planes. Taking them off at the security scanner is simple (no laces) and it's nice to be able to pop them off easily on long plane flights. Anyway, I like them a lot.

Unbelievable...

how long a pair of these have lasted for me. I use to be a competitive trail runner and these shoes are too heavy for that. But I won a pair and used them for short summer approaches in the Canadian Rockies. But since I have been spending more time in Southern Utah, I find they are my primary approach shoes for Red Rocks and Zion. On long rock climbs, many times your descent will not be conducive to coming back to the base of the route, thus you have to biner your shoes to your harness. These are light enough to make that work, yet, incredibly durable....I am already a huge fan of Salomon's lace technology and do trail run in a lighter version of this shoe, but appreciate the Gortex, toe cap and just plain ruggedness of this heavier shoe that serves as my primary approach shoe and lasts forever in the desert.

Last shoe you'll ever buy

100%. 10/10. However you want to say it, these shoes are perfect. They are 100% waterproof. They are breathable but still warm in the snow/ice. I've used these on mud, ice, snow, dirt, mud on ice, water on ice, ice on water, rapelling, hiking... these shoes are my absolute favorite. The excellent traction has saved my butt many times. They're also nearly indestructible. I'm extremely demanding and harsh on my shoes, and they almost look brand new still. I would still by these shoes if they were $300, cause you won't ever have to buy another pair. The ortholite insoles are so comfortable that I also wear these shoes as slippers. If God wore shoes, he would wear the Salomon XA Comp3 GTX trail runners.

Buy first, ask questions later...

These are easily the best pair of shoes I've ever owned. Just putting them on and feeling the lacing system conform to MY foot assures me of support and comfort. I would trek these babies through the grass and mud every day, and by the end of each day, they'd be spotless without my even having to clean them. The best part, though, (aside from the excellent waterproofing), is the increase in control I feel when running. With no other shoes do I experience this degree of stability and responsiveness. I find myself moving my feet much faster simply because these shoes permit it, and they constantly encourage me to go faster, what with their contagrip traction and all. My advice: buy this shoe NOW, ask questions later.

A hiker, not a runner.

The sole XA comp is definitely designed for hiking compared to the XA Pro 3D. Nice fit, nice lacing. A good hiker/lightweight backpacking shoe.
