Salomon Mega Trek 6 Light GTX Backpacking Boot - Men's
The Salomon Mega Trek 6 Light GTX hiking boot is a performance driven rugged terrain hiker. The Mega Trek 6 is up for anything from technical day hikes to weekend backpacking trips. It's also the lightest boot in Salomon's Mega Trek line. Salomon's Advanced Chassis system stabilizes your feet over uneven terrain, without losing energy from your stride. The bootie-construction liner adds comfort. The Gore-Tex membrane keeps your feet dry from outside moisture (like the “small” river you just tromped through), while a thick PU midsole and beefy rubber toe cap keep your tootsies protected from rocks and abrasion. The high cuff protects and supports your ankles as you trot your way to the peak.
Bottom Line: Walk lightly and carry a big pack.

I’m a size 14 (US) and top off at 6.5’, which means I need an almost magical pair of boots to comfortably carry loaded backpack over yonder bonnie ridge and back. Through research and luck, the Salmon Mega Trek GTX was just that boot. Plagued by blistering and almost crippling foot fatigue, I managed one minor blister on my first outing (6 miles) and nothing but incredible comfort and support since (over 80 miles of hiking mountains, deserts, and rock). You will get a little dirt and debris around your ankles, and the tongue padding has a tendency to bunch up after awhile, but this has little impact on the sheer, unadulterated joy of using these brilliant hiking boots.

Unlike most reviewers for these boots, I had a super hard time breaking these puppies in. They fit perfectly, provides great ankle support, kept my feet super dry, and gripped the terrain like there was no tomorrow. However, the bend at the front pinched the life out of my feet. I put 10 solid miles on them throughout the course of a weekend and my toes felt like they were going to fall off. Besides my poor toes, though, the rest of my feet love these boots!

I spent 2 weeks breaking in my boots and the left boot pinched my foot right behind my toes. Hiked at the least a mile and a half every other day trying to break the boots in but they still bothered my feet.

This is a an all around good boot. I have used it for many backpacking trips and it has held up mile after mile. After about 3 years of serious these boots have finally begun to break down. The outer side of one boot is beginning to de-laminate. Given the choice for a new boot I will probably go with something a bit more water proof, the Gore-Tex is nice but I am going to go with a boot that has a solid upper as opposed to mesh. I really like the ankle support in these boots and the contra grip system really does the trick. These boots were well worth the money and i would recommend them to anyone who wants a serious backpacking/hiking boot.

I just began backpacking and decided to purchase these boots after reading something like a million reviews. I was looking for a waterproof boot with good support and deep treads. I also wanted a boot that would come just over my ankles. I have medium to wide with feet. I have had them for about 2 months now and they are great. It has been very wet and slippery as well as icy where I live and they get great traction. They have remained waterproof while trouncing through standing water and flowing creeks. The support is good and the lacing system is even better. I have hiked about 25 miles in these and I am glad I picked them. They were a little stiff out of the box, but they were broken in within 2 miles. Durability seems good so far, but it is a little early to judge that. I would definitely recommend these to my friends.

I've been using Salomon boots for quite a while and they get better every time.
The first hike was a 6 hour hike in the Costa Rican forest, the boots were great, very comfortable!

This is the 2nd pair of Salomon boots I have owned.
The first pair trekked all across NZ and AUS and were excellent boots.
The Salomon Mega Trek 6 Light GTX Backpacking Boots
I purchased a month ago, have so far lived up to my expectations. Comfortable right out of the box, keep my feet dry and have been great on short hikes.
Nothing to complain about. If I spelled anything incorrectly.... it's no reflection on the boots

I don't know what it is about Salomon boots, but they always fit my foot just right. I have a narrow foot with a high arch, and Salomons are the only ones that seem to fit me. These boots were barely broken in when I did a three-day Alpine "tramp" in New Zealand, but they worked great and kept out the cold, mud, and rain. All the others in my group got blisters, but not me!

Extremely comfortable! Don't even need to be broken in! The Gore-Tex works great! Highly recommend!

This is a good boot for wider feet. Lots of room - maybe too much. The built-in footbed is very soft and provides minimal support - replaced this with Superfeet Green, which helped lock my foot in place. The relatively high ankle with lots of padding provides great support includes memory foam, so after a couple of hikes it conforms to your foot and helps lock you in. What others have said about minimal break-in is true.

I waited to return from a hiking trip to Switzerland before reviewing these boots. They are terrific, and never let me down. We hiked in all kinds of conditions (rocks, roots, up, down, rain, sun) and I was always comfortable. My feet never got sore and I felt very secure, and on the rainy day, I stayed perfectly dry. As all boot soles are a compromise, these boots are a little slippery on wet stones, so be careful if confronted with that situation, especially downhill. Otherwise I can highly recommend these boots.

I bought this boot 3 days before a hiking trip. I truely didn't take much time to break in. I ended up going 30 miles on the trip with NO blisters! The sole is also very "grippy". Even when wet, the boots didn't slip on rock. Over all I will buy Salomon again!

What has been said about "right out of the box" is absolutely true. I have owned them for about one month and they have been comfortable since day one. This past weekend I did 26+ miles in these boots with a 40lb backpack. My feet felt great during and after the trip. I have wide feet and these boots worked well. I have high arches, so I changed out the insoles for ones with more support, but I do that with all my shoes. I highly recommend these boots.

I never needed to break in the boots—they were ready right out of the box. I went hiking out in the big bend country and then to the panhandle to do some hunting which required a lot of walking. Excellent buy!!

This must be my fifth or sixth order from this site, and they have come through again with timely delivery of the promised product. These boots are incredible—I had purchased the fantastic Salomon SM Lite boots a short time for mountaineering and liked them a lot, so when I needed the next step down for solid backpacking boots I could use off-trail, I decided to try Salomon again and these GTX boots are awesome! The fit is good, and they truly require minimal break-in. The randing is sufficient for toe protection, and the contragrip soles grip like crazy. And if you catch them on sale—what a deal!

Well, I broke them in with a few two-hours hikes on some trails in northeast Ohio. Then I took them out to Colorado for a real test. I took a six-hour hike to the top of Grays Peak(14270ft). My feet felt like a million dollars. These boots were light and comfortable, (just don't forget some good socks). A great value.

I have been out on two weekender trips of 6 and 10 miles with 40 pounds on my back, and so far the shoes have been great. No blisters right out of the box. jc elliott

This is a great boot for day hiking and weekend backpacking. It is little stiff but after wearing it for a day around the house it loosens up and was ready. It has this advance chassis technology with it seem it really works, and beside all it looks nice too.
