Salomon Expert Mid Hiking Shoe - Men's - 2004

The Expert Mid hiking shoe, featuring Salomon's Contagrip outsole that grips like the dickens, will keep you sure-footed and upright in moderate to rugged terrain. A mid-cut shoe, the Expert Mid has just enough of a “collar” to keep scree and other prickly annoyances out so you can hike in comfort. One pull, locking laces make tying these shoes a cinch, literally. Full grain nubuck and split suede leather hold the whole package together, including a protective rubber toe and heel wrap should an errant ACME anvil fall from the desert sky on to your foot. How's that for tough?

Bottom Line: Excellent mid-cut footwear for light trekking and hiking in moderate to rugged terrain.

Excellent traction over rough/rocky terrain. Soles and uppers were tough enough to withstand cacti quills and sharp rocks experienced in the high desert, yet light enough for long day hikes.
One of the best values I have found.

I bought these for my husband for everyday work type shoes. They were recommended by a friend who is a teacher and on his feet all day. My husband loves them as well. I will definitely buy more in the future. As a bonus, BackcountryStore.com provided great service!

Not a bad boot but problems with the gusset.

First pair I tried in the shop had a torn gusset at the corner joining the tongue. They didn't have another one in my size, so I bought another pair at the official Salomon outlet shop in Amsterdam, Netherlands.

Later, trying the shoes at home I found the gusset came loose in one shoe at the seam joining to the shoe body :(

I returned it to the shop the day after. Had to argue with the manager to have my money back. He first wanted me to have it sent for repair!
