POC Receptor BUG Helmet

POC designed the Receptor BUG Helmet as the do-it-all choice for athletes whose sports change with the seasons. This helmet feels right at home on snow. The Receptor BUG features padded inserts for winter sports that are removable for full ventilation during summer use. POC merged hard-shell and in-mold helmet technologies for an unprecedented double-shell design with an expanded polypropylene liner that doesn’t weigh you down when wet. The result is a breathable versatile helmet for any endeavor in any environment.

Bottom Line: The POC Receptor BUG Helmet means no more helmet quiver cluttering up your closet.

A few questions here: Does anyone know if the POC Receptor BUG Helmet leaves a large gaper gap on your forehead with goggles other than the POC ones. I have a pair of Oakley and a pair of Smith, will these fit well on the helmet? Also, I have heard the helmet comes with a clip for your goggles on the back to keep them in place. Is this true?
Thanks

Why Not Wear the Best?

By: Backcountry.com Sponsored Athlete

POC's helmets are relatively new to the market and have been designed with the utmost care and technology to fit the times. POC helmets feature the highest crash ratings on the market, as well as newly designed materials and ventilation systems. I have worn a lot of helmets in the past, but the POC helmet is comfortable and feels right. When it comes to a helmet, safety is key, but comfort is tantamount to your willingness to wear it. POC has integrated both these features (Comfort and Safety )and in the process made what in my opinion are the best helmets on the market.

how well do goggles fit underneath this helmet? Would i have to get a size up to fit a beanie underneath?

no you wouldnt have to size down because there are padded inserts that are made to be removed and not sacrifice protection, a low profile tight knit beanie will replace the space that the padding inserts used to take up and itll fit nice and snug

POC Receptor Bug Helmet

I've been rockin' this helmet everyday I have skied this season. I usually try to split my time between just a beanie on mellow days and helmets for comp days, but with the Receptor, I have boosted my confidence on an everyday basis. I know that if I take a spill, there is a ton of design influence that is going to keep my brain in place. I have mine in white, ya know, just to keep it classy. And with a little velcro on top, I can easily rock my VIO POV.1 helmet cam without any swing-weight problems.

One note of importance: I especially like the ventilation system on this helmet. Instead of a little tab on the outer shell that slides back and forth, and will most likely snap off in cold temps, this helmet has a sweet liner attachment that just plugs the holes on cold days. And it's light enough and small enough to keep in my jacket pocket on warm days. Sweet!

Check ChrisTatsuno.com for some helmet cam skiing adventures!

Can anyone confirm that these helmets run small? I like this helmet but there are no retailers in my area that carry the POC brand.

If you are asking about whether or not they come in a size small, than yes they do.NO, I am asking if they run small compared to other helmets. Or, how they fit compared to, say, a R.E.D or Giro helmet. So for example, if I wear a large R.E.D helmet would I purchase an XL POC? All brands use different moldings for their helmets, I was just asking if anyone has experience with fit on these POC helmets. I'm essentially asking the same question as mde2483772 . ***2nd OpinionI have a larger head as well, and in most helmets I have to size up to a L/XL helmet to fit well. In the POC Receptor Bug I wear a size L. The XL is way too big for me. Hope that helps!

This is my third helmet, all of them have been larges. The size chart is quite accurate, I would start by measuring your head.

Awesome Helmet!

By:
May 7, 2009

This helmet is awesome for all sorts of activities! I actually use it sailing because I got a terrible concussion from the boom and want to protect my head from future injury. I can use this helmet in the cold weather with the ear flaps, but can also use it in the warm weather by taking out the vents and taking off the ear flaps. It is great for both warm and cold weather and is very comfortable. It also has a low profile so it looks good on anyone's head!

How well will this helmet hold ski goggles? My sister loves the helmet but is worried her goggles will slip.

It'll work fine for propping her goggles up, but if she's the type to ride with her goggles up all the time, defeating the purpose of owning them, then get something with a goggle strap. Or don't get goggles.Well, to be honest, this is my only complaint about this helmet. It does come with a goggle strap clip (it's an accessory that can be put on the helmet). However, I had to superglue it in to make sure I didn't lose it in big crashes. The helmet was initially designed to hold POC goggles, which have that rubber cement type glue on their straps to keep from slipping. I use Scott goggles though, and I definitely need the clip to keep them on the helmet. But it works fine once it's permanently attached.

My POC Skull X came with a little piece of that strong velcro. This holds my POC goggles on well and also my Scott goggles. I haven't had them fall off yet, I actually have a hard time getting them off.

Awesome lid!

Used this helmet for most of the season (my RED theory helmet exploded on a small impact, no bueno) and I love it! Very comfy fit, excellent quality, top notch design, style, function. I will definitely purchase another when this one wears out.

Not sure about Giro or RED, but compared to a Protec or Smith Variant, it has a nice snug fit leaving no gaps for wind. The earflaps are warm; I guess the audio ones are somewhat uncomfortable though. I wear a size L.

Great helmet

By:
January 7, 2009

Used this helmet all days this season. Got mine in orange, wich is cool as hell. The actual color im much brighter orange in real life. I have a rather big head, so i got the XL. Fits perfectly. The helmet is pretty lightweight, has great ventilation (Turn your head sideways while skiing it sounds like a plane is flying right above you).
5 stars easily.
