Patagonia Lightwire Brief Bag - 1600 cu in

Sling your Patagonia Lightwire Brief Bag over your shoulder and get onto the subway. This messenger bag makes hauling your laptop and other office gear a cinch. A suspended computer sleeve protects your PC against hard landings, and external zippered pockets make getting to your important documents or cell phone convenient. A water bottle pocket helps you with your goal of staying hydrated—or caffeinated—and a padded bottom makes the Lightwire Brief stand up when you set it down. This bag has enough room for an overnight trip and includes a mesh laundry pocket to keep fresh skivvies away from the, uh, less fresh.

Bottom Line: From commuting to work-related travel, the Patagonia Lightwire Brief helps you get where need to go.

Almost perfect (shoulder strap is no-no)

I was using the Lightwire tote bag for 2 years, then we got this new big computer from work, which could barely fit it. Also the tote didn't have any space once my PC was in. The new Lightwire Brief bag solves the all of the problems mentioned above. And it even has a water bottle pocket, large main compartment, and place to stick a magazine or paper. I can't ask anymore!! but not so fast. I hate the shoulder strap came with the bag, it has a slit in the middle to hold the handle and shoulder strap together while attached to the large rolling bag. Well, the slit in the middle is very annoying when I carry the bag on my shoulder. They also tend to slip if I'm wearing soft shell jacket. I guess it was designed to be worn over a dressy jacket, but I really think Patagonia makes lousy shoulder strap. That's why this bag doesn't get 10. But overall this is great bag.

It rains a lot where I live, is this bag waterproof?

It's not exactly waterproof, but I would expect it to keep your laptop and belongings safe and dry while getting to work in anything other than a torrential down pour.
