Patagonia R1 Flash Fleece Pullover - Mens

Wear the versatile Patagonia Men's R1 Flash Pullover either as a heavy base layer or lightweight insulating mid-layer when you exert in cold temps. You'll love the stretchy R1 fabric as well as the stretch panels underneath the arms that move with you as you scramble over scree or schuss down slopes. The breathable R1 fabric wicks sweat away from your body so you don't get that all-over clammy feeling when you pause to have a snack. Pull down the front zipper, offset to prevent chafing your chin, for ventilation when you work hard. Lightweight stretch panels placed at the wrist and hem reduce bulk under gloves or a harness. Although Patagonia made the R1 Flash to have a trim fit, it's roomy enough to go over a light base layer. Stash your ID or energy gel in the zippered chest pocket.

Bottom Line: Many wear it as a base layer. Some wear it as a mid-layer. And some just drink beer in it après ski. So many choices.

Wonderful!!!

While I would never pay $100 for it, I was lucky enough to get it on sale, and I'm glad I did. No question that it's the best piece of its kind, as well as proof that you get what you pay for. Very warm for its weight, and extremely breathable. It is extremely versatile, and fills that gap between baselayer and fleece. The fit is truly made for an athletic person as it is big in the chest and arms. Fits like a glove.

Versatility is the name of the game

This is a great piece that is incredibly versatile, as the reviewers have both mentioned previous to me. You can wear it in the coldest winter as a baselayer, and as a middle layer when things aren't as cold, or in very mild weather just over a T-shirt. Well constructed, like all Patagonia products, and is extremely compressible, and dries quickly if you get it wet. The fit is pretty standard for Patagonia, I'm 6'0"/165 lbs and got a Medium. You can fit a thin baselayer underneath--but that's all you're supposed to be able to--and it stretches so I don't feel claustrophobic. Kudos to Patagonia!

versatile piece of clothing

I have been looking for a lightweight and warm technical middle-layer pullover, when I read many people raving about this R1 flash pullover from Patagonia. R1 is really a nice and versatile pullover: it's lightweight, non-bulky, warm for its weight (due to the waffle construction in the inside; the exterior is smooth though). I can use it as base layer during cold winter time (mind you though that your belly might feel the inside part of the zipper, as biger zipper is used compared to mini zipper in Patagonia Capilene products), or as a (outer) sweater for cooler summer night, or as middle layer during fall/autumn time. Really nice construction and quaility product from Patagonia.

great piece

The R1 Flash is probably my most-worn article of clothing. It's great over medium capilene with a shell on top for shredding on the hill, or even by itself for nordic skiing. I also use it over a t-shirt for cooler summer nights and wearing to class, etc. Also great for backpacking because it's so ridiculously compressible. If you want a fleece to wear alone in the winter, opt for something a little heavier, but the R1 is surprisingly warm, and extremely versatile.
