Patagonia Nine Trails Short - Men's

Stash your energy gel in the Patagonia Men's Nine Trails Shorts, tighten up your laces and head out on that grueling hot weather run. These shorts' lightweight, 4-way stretch fabric moves with you and keeps you cool all run long. Stay cool while the day heats up thanks to the venting, open pique knit crotch gusset and lightweight fabric. The brushed elastic interior waistband tape keeps the Nine Trails Short's right where you want them despite constant movement and sweat. Zippered pockets secure all your small items and fuel sources, which gives you more time on the trail and less time bonking.

Bottom Line: Discover the joys of hot weather running in the Patagonia Nine Trails Short.

Do everything shorts

I love my Nine Trails shorts. They're stretchy, highly breathable, and just all around comfortable. I've been wearing mine mostly for climbing and they haven't shown any sign of wear yet, but the DWR has seen better days (probably because I've sent them through the washer so many times using regular detergent). I can't wait to get out backpacking with these. They have enough pocket space to keep a few things close at hand (two side zip, one rear zip) and secure. I'd like to get another pair for those trips when too much activity and not enough water necessitates taking two pairs of shorts. I'm 6'0" 180 lbs and have a 32/33" waist - the mediums fit me perfectly.

Probably the ultra shorts, but if the DWR on the nine trails shorts does its job that's not really an issue because they won't get wet. Brand new you can stand in the shower and the water just rolls off, but after a few washes the coating starts to wear.

I think whether you should buys these or the ultra shorts depends more on what you want to use them for. Think of the ultra shorts as a pair of baggies shorts with more pockets. I've got a pair of these and a pair of the long haul runners (which are a little shorter, lighter, and have fewer pockets than the ultra shorts) and I like them both a lot, but I prefer the nine trails shorts...mostly because the nine trails don't make a swishy noise whenever I move.

I tried on a pair of ultra shorts and didn't like them because they felt (to me) too long and too awkward. If you're planning on backpacking go with the nine trails, unless you absolutely need the extra pockets of the ultra shorts. If you plan to do a lot of swimming get the long haul runners- I live in mine when I'm constantly in and out of the lake (and they dry faster than both the nine trails and ultra shorts).
