Patagonia Capilene 1 Crew - Long-Sleeve - Men's
The Patagonia Men's Capilene 1 Long-Sleeve Crew is an ultralight, fast-wicking top for warm-weather trail runs or hikes. Wear this silky long-sleeve shirt to stay dry as you sweat and to keep the sun off your shoulders as you move along the mountain trail. During winter, wear the Patagonia Capilene 1 Crew as your base layer for ski tours or ice climbing. The rib-knit collar is soft against your skin, and Patagonia's shoulder panels reduce chafing under your backpack's straps. This top features Gladiodor odor control, so you can grab a smoothie after your run and not offend everyone in line.
Bottom Line: Patagonia's silkweight Capilene 1 Long-Sleeve Crew is one shirt that you'll wear all year.

Could be the best base layer ever

probably the best long sleeve aerobic shirt i've ever worn. i trail run in it when it's a bit too cold for short sleeves. it's the perfect base layer for skiing or apline ski touring because it is light and it really wicks moisture away from the body.
super silky feel good fabric that builds oder fast

I love capilene and the way it feels on my skin, makes me want to wear them all the time. But nothing grabs and holds order faster than this stuff so its a mixed bag. Lasts longer and feels comparable merino wool products but the smell, it will make your eyes water after about 4-8 hours of riding/exertion whereas with wool products there is little to No smell after a whole long day out, at least by comparison. I ride alone a lot and like how capilene drys fast and feels like silk, but I'd never wear it when I'm on long trip with my mates.
cheers
im thinking about getting this and i want to use it year round

Comfortable and a base layer?

Love my capilene 1 crew baselayer. Wear it alone on cool days or as a beginning baselayer that wicks well and doesn't snag on whatever you layer over it. Material tends to get caught a bit on rock and shred somewhat if you are not cafeful. Overall, an excellent comfortable layering piece that has a great fit.

Capilene wicks moisture faster, dries faster, and is less expensive. Merino is a natural fiber which is super comfortable, doesn't stink, and keeps you warm while it's wet. I don't care for merino as a skiing base layer because it doesn't dry that quickly, but a lot of people do. Merino's killer for wearing around when it's chilly though

I bought this for a base layer to wear on my newfound love of Alpine Touring. When skinning up I get super hot and this performs as promised by wicking the sweat away and keeping me cool. My only beef is the sleeves tend to hike up my arm when I am moving them around a lot. Other then that I wear it around even when I am just sitting around at home because it is so comfortable.

Warm and comfortable. Great for layering or wearing on a cool Autumn day. Looks nice enough for a fancy restaurant after your descent. I would highly reccomend this to anybody. Isn't itchy either. very comfortable on the skin.

I am going whitewater rafting in a few weeks, I'm expecting the water to still be pretty cold, can anyone suggest a good light weight long john to wear under my wetsuit? Is one material, wool v polyester, etc, better than others for this use? Any suggestions would be very appreciated.

poly/capilene would be the best for your use since it dries so much faster than merino. Capilene 1 bottom is the ticket for sure.

Top notch baselayer. Wicks moisture away from your body for temperature control. It keeps you cooler when it's warm and warmer when it's cool. These things last forever and keep you smelling good too. Run true to size.

light, breathable, adaptable, comfortable
with a much better cut (raglan) than the regular capilene 1 shirts with seams on shoulders....looks and performs better.
thanks for that

i don't know how Patagonia does it, but they come up with some pretty amzing stuff. capilene one base layers keep you warmm and dry when working or playing outside in freezing condiditions. they also help maintain a nice mean temperature when it's not as cold and your taking it easy, but you don't want to be cold.
An indispensable layer

I wear these tops year around; in the house, skiing, running, hiking, sleeping. They feel great, manage sweat, and wash up great. If you are hesitant about the price, get one. You will quickly find that you can't live without another as your ONLY Cap 1 is in the wash basket. I can't accept cotton against my skin anymore.
good stuff - a little smelly

good base layer. Wicks moisture very well and keeps me from overheating. Only drawback is that this shirt holds on to odor like crazy. I'm not a terribly stinky or sweaty guy, so I was surprised at how bad the shirt smells at the end of a long day of moderate activity. Still, very comfortable and functional - just bring a change of shirt if you plan on socializing with the opposite sex later

Not only do I use them as a base layer for cool season outdoor activities, but I use them as dress shirts with a black sport coat when traveling. A quick wash in a hotel sink followed by a night on a hanger and they are good to go! Coupled with a The North Face Venture jacket and perhaps a Capilene 2 second layer, I can span most weather conditions around the globe, including above tree line and open ocean activities, when traveling and an opportunity to explore presents itself.

I steal this shirt from my boyfriend all the time. It's lightweight and keeps me warm skiing. It wicks really well and doesn't stink too much (unless he wears it, that is).

This shirt is a little too thin to really put some abuse to, but it's perfect for cool to warm summer conditions when you need just a little more coverage. The fit is perfect for using under layers or worn by itself (it doesn't hug your every curve, but it isn't too lose either). This is one piece I like to have with me at all times during the spring, summer and fall.

Patagonia and its Capilene underwear never fails. I have been buying Capilene underwear ever since they came out, and Patagonia has done a great job improving the product over the years.

I have been using Patagonia equipment and clothing for many, many years. This shirt is yet another in a long line of excellent garments from this fantastic company. I have used it for cool trail runs, my bike commute, and whatever else comes my way and it has been impressive in its quick drying action as well as the amazing ability NOT to smell. Highly recommend the extra cost.

Works as advertised. Great wicking/base layer. Didn't really shrink -- I always buy mediums and I should have gone with a medium on this one as well.

Depends on what you are looking for. To me this is clearly a wicking layer ie capilene 1. with that said, knowing how to use your layers and depending on your comfort level this provides some level of insulation, more so on the bottoms than on the shirt in my opinion. if you need real insulation i go for the cap 2s Pros: I love it. I bought one, used it for a couple months then bought another. I like that it is made in the USA from Patagonia and it is made from recycled fibers. The color and material quality are excellent and i use them for various types of casual dress up wear under a coat or for a shirt going out. really i can wear it under a coat in the city and stay cool or warm depending on the temp and it is a nice shirt to wear with the coat off once inside. It seems to be durable as a full on piece of backcountry gear as well. recommended

I never would have guessed this shirt could be so warm. It's fit is a bit strange at first bit after a minute I didn't notice and I can't believe how warm it is. Jogging last Saturday it was 45 and sunny and this was all I needed!

I purchased this product as a Christmas gift for my husband and he's thrilled with it. He wears it a lot and says the material is breathable and can be used for any kind of weather, it's very comfortable, feels good, and he even sleeps with it on. I'm beginning to feel jealous of the shirt.

I have used this for years, and have had to get new ones along the way. I used this for Rainier and it was a great base layer. A medium works great for me, Im 5'9 and usually wear a med. in any other shirt. It has a snug fit and doesn't bunch up.
