Outdoor Research Hydroseal DryComp AirX Sacks

Outdoor Research's waterproof Hydroseal DryComp AirX Sacks take up less space while packing more of the gear you need for your backpacking adventure. Using a breathable fabric band, these stuff sacs let air out as they compress. Since you're not fighting to release the air, the whole compression process works efficiently and easily. The Hydroseal DryComp AirX Sacks' waterproof fabric and taped seams block moisture, so your gear stays dry even as rain soaks through your backpack. Store small items in the internal zippered pocket, and carry the Hydroseal Sack to your tent using the bottom handle. Outdoor Research gives you plenty of size options for your various backpacking adventures.

Bottom Line: Outdoor Research's waterproof Hydroseal DryComp AirX Sacks let air out as they compress, so you can pack more for your hiking treks.

Stuff it and keep it dry

Great sack, super burly and dependable and it keeps your stuff pretty dry. I almost always back up for dryness with a garbage bag. A little on the heavy side with its extra pocket you can fold it into and zip it shut, but you can cut that off.

Cram away

After purchasing a Sierra Designs Tiros 2 tent, I really wanted to reduce the huge-diameter factory bag/pkg. it comes in. This OR bag turned out to be just the ticket. I roll the tent and fly together around the poles (in the factory pole sack), and this roll fits nicely into the OR AirX Sack -- the diameter of the bag is perfect for this application. I have just enough room in the top for my Sea To Summit XXS sil cordura sack stuffed with stakes, guy-lines, and figure 9s. The whole package is snug as a bug in the size "4" bag (with just enough room at the top to roll the seal 3 times before buckling, and a little slack to tug out of each of the cinch straps), and it centers very nicely down the main compartment of my backpack. As would be expected, I've packed and unpacked this sack many times, and packed it tightly against other items in my backpack or in my duffle bag -- no problems or design weaknesses encountered. The AirX sack is tough as nails, and well constructed. I'll definitely be buying more.

Not what I expected

Well, I just got the sack today and was looking forward to testing it out with my tent and sleeping bag. As soon as I pulled on the first strap it popped right off the sack. It looks like it was never stitched on like the other three straps (with two double duty seams). This may have very likely been an oversight and not caught by quality control, but in my book that's unacceptable. So, I decided to return it and go with granite gear instead. The one thing I did not like the sack(if it would have been in perfect condition), is that there seems to be a section above the compression straps that doesn't get compressed. It's a strange design to have that extra space (some used for rolling up the top) and not being able to compress it.
