Oboz Hyalite Hiking Shoe - Women's - 2009
Whether you plan to do a lung-busting trail run today or scramble up your favorite peak, you'll want to wear the Oboz Women's Hyalite Hiking Shoes. The multisport Hyalites are versatile enough for both types of adventures. Oboz' Radial Fit System integrates the shoe uppers and bottoms so as to provide stability and support for your feet on uneven terrain. The Hyalite's dual-density EVA midsoles absorb shock and give you rebound so you can hike or run farther in comfort. External heel counters help prevent turned ankles, and mesh over your insteps let your feet breathe. High-friction outsoles grip rocky and muddy ground.
Bottom Line: Regardless of what you tackle today—a hike or a trail run—all you need are the Oboz Hyalites.

How far would you suggest walking in these shoes? I have a 12-mile hike coming up and I'm wondering if these would make it that far or if I would need something sturdier.

These'll work great. Break them in beforehand by wearing them day-to-day for a week or two, and you'll be set. One thing to consider is if you're carrying a big pack (I'd say 45+ pounds), which seems unlikely for 12 miles, get something taller with more ankle support. If it's just a day hike (which I'm guessing) and you're carrying water and a jacket or something like that, then go for it.

this is a great hiking shoe. supportive, solid, comfortable. i noticed that they run a little big though. I bought my usual size but need to cinch them down quite a bit and wear a decently thick hiking sock to get the fit just right- however a half size down is too small. Great shoe though, I would fully recommend it.

these have a pretty good insole ( better than most others, in fact) but you could use your orthotic in them as well

Wore this shoe for the first time on a hike and it felt great! No breaking-in needed. Looks great on also...get it!
