Oakley Water Jacket Sunglasses - Polarized Lens

The only thing worse than your glasses being impossible to see through is seeing them drift away from you beneath the waves. To combat these twin complaints of the sailor, paddler, and fisherman Oakley has created the Water Jackets. A retention strap wraps around the back of your head so you won't lose the glasses during an acrobatic dodge in case the wind jibes you without warning, or your companion's back cast goes wide. In case you aren't a fan of straps, the Unobtainium ears and nose pads get grippier when they're wet. Speaking of wet, Oakley coats the Water Jacket lenses with a hydrophobic (water hating, not rabid) compound that keeps them from collecting any souvenirs that might interfere with your vision. The Water Jacket's Polarized lenses eliminate glare and let you see the fish or the starboard boat coming out of the sun, which is good because not catching anything and hull repairs both suck.

Bottom Line: The sea is a harsh mistress, but the Water Jackets are harsher.

Great glasses, but a little tight

By:
June 5, 2006

They do exactly what they're supposed to do, but they are a little tight overall. I can barely tighten the strap, and the lenses themselves could be about ½-inch wider.

Other than that, it’s a great product. FTR, I'm your typical 6'0" 230lb typical athletic guy.

Fast delivery and the glasses are what i wanted. The polarized lens make a big difference in the water and let you see the reefs. I recommend these for people on the water.

Love the Glasses

By:
August 23, 2005

I have had several pair but lose them Kite surfing due to a fault of mine. Backcountry.com was exceptional with their service as I ordered the wrong pair that I had to return. They sent out the correct pair before my incorrect ones were back to them. I will order from Backcountry whenever possible.
