Oakley A Frame Goggle w/ Iridium Lens

Oakley A Frame Goggles with Iridium Lenses block more visible light than the standard A-Frame lenses, making them the goggle of choice for cold, sunny days. You don't lose any of the A-Frame's famous optical clarity or wide peripheral view. A triple layer of face foam insulates and provides maximum comfort. The flexible urethane chassis is chiseled with ram-air surge ports for a circular flow of defogging ventilation. The A Frame Goggles are best for medium to small faces.

Bottom Line: Bright sunny days call for the Oakley A Frames.

best lenses for low light ever!

By: Anonymous (1)
March 13, 2008

a-frames always fit well on narrow faces, especially around the nose. Never any gaper gap, fits great with both my racing helmet and everyday/park helmet. I had these goggles before and the inside lens tends to scratch easily when wet, no matter what kind of lens you have...so be careful! As long as you keep them on your face and not your head/helmet they shouldn't fog up. I got the high intensity yellow lens specifically for bad weather conditions and low light, and I couldn't be happier, they do their job. Just switch them out on those really sunny days for something a bit darker, otherwise you'll be squinting a lot.

Great goggles

The Persimmon lens is great for low & flat light conditions while still protecting your eyes from the glare from the snow. Even if the sun does come out, they are still dark enough to prevent eye strain. The A-Frames also fit great with my helmet and stay in place thanks to some rubber on the inside of the strap. They don't fog either, which helps a lot. Out of all of the Oakley goggles, these are the ones I like the most. Classic shape, classic fit. Absolutely perfect.

These goggles are great. They are comfortable and also perform great. They have never fogged up. I got the fire iridium lenses which are perfect for sunny days, but not good for low light conditions, such as overcast days. Overall, these are the best goggles I've owned in my 14 years of skiing. I also have a big head and face, but they fit perfect despite what the description above states.

Fine Product

By: Bergyvegas (6)

Recently purchased during Telluride dump. Fogging never an issue, worked as described. Do not wear on top of head when not in use as the oils from your hair will interfere with the anti-fog coating on inside of lens. Drop them around your neck if you have to. Should you face plant, shake snow off, NEVER wipe the inside of the lens. Use the supplied storage bag to gently wipe OUTSIDE of lens if you must. I wore them from 9 till 4 in complete comfort for three consecutive days. The Iridium Lens worked fine in low/flat light. Do yourself a favor and drop another $ for the case. Oakley is famous for charging for cases. Great goggle, you will love them.

OK so i've tried about 3 other brands or so and I just can't say enough how good these fit like like no other. Granted I wear glasses which was why I got the a-frame becasue of the wider sides but even if I didnt wear glasses I would still go with them. Other companies are just cheap and the foam is cheap just not up to par with the a frame goggle.

Great goggles, but watch out if you sweat a lot

By: Anonymous (1)
August 12, 2007

I bought these and it's been really worth it. This was my first time up the snow and didnt exactly want to fork out a lot of $$ for a pair of goggles, considering i didn't even know if i like snowboarding. well, all i can say is, these goggles are awesome, my partner bought a cheapy pair of goggles and they fogged up on him in no time and mine are still clear. I love the black iridium lenses because they aren't too dark but they cut the glare so I can see properly. The only downside is that I sweat very easily and i also sweat a lot, as long as i don't take them off, they stay clear, but as soon as i took them off outside and wipe my face then put them back on, they fog up big time. I guess thats with all goggles, and unfortunately its not something i can do about. If you sweat a lot, be prepare that sooner or later your goggles will fog up because of the moisture inside, but as long as you cool down and you don't take them off outside, they are absolutely brilliant!

I wish I could see clearly out of these cute goggs...

By: Anonymous (1)
May 8, 2007

I originally purchased these for sunny/kind of cloudy days up on the mountains of Colorado. These goggles are cute, yes, I loved the old school Oakley insignia on the strap, and the hot pink color scheme, but I had two problems with them. For one, the strap didn't extend long enough, and they didn't fit over my helmet. Secondly, the lenses were not clear. I saw halos and the sharpness Oakley usually delivers just was not there. Maybe I am picky, but I had better luck with a pair of Scotts I purchased at the mountain after these (sadly) didn't pan out.

Best A-Frames Yet!

By: Tommy B (1)
April 2, 2007

The slopes are now closed here in Minnesota but got a chance to try out my new black iridium oakleys on the best ski day of the season. 20 plus inches of new snow, bright sunshine, and "bluebird" skies. Great contrast and no glare whatsoever. The a-frames fit my helmet and seal perfectly over my prescription glasses. I own three pairs with a good range of their available lenses and would recommend them to anyone.

Great Lens, Not So Great Fit

By: AskAlice (1)
April 1, 2007

The lens provides nice contrast in overcast skies. It also deflects sun well. The goggles have never fogged up on me. My first complaint is that the goggles don't fit my face. I have small/medium features and a medium face size. Unless I put the goggles at the very tip of my nose, there is always space between the goggles and my nose. My second complaint is that the band doesn't tighten enough to fit snuggly around my head without a helmet.

Solid goggle with *very* short strap

By: TH in LA (1)
March 22, 2007

I bought this goggle thinking it was a great bargain, and it was... sort of. Definitely a great price on very good optics, the Oakley Iridium lens. However, the strap is way too short to fit around a helmet, and I ended up stretching it to its max, goggle painfully squished to my face... you get the idea. After a little retrofitting with a $20 replacement strap, it works better, but it's no longer such a bargain. If you're a helmet wearer, as you should be, try this goggle in person before you commit.

March 12, 2007

These goggles are some of the best performing goggles i have used and that goes along the list with Spy, Dragon, and VZ. never have had a problem with breaking lenses while swapping them out or foggy goggs. but i do want to note one thing. the strap that comes with the goggles is somewhat small so if you are going to equip it with a helmet the fit gets just a little to tight and become uncomfortable after about 30 mins. i got a narrow head and my helmet is a low profile Scott so i know its not just me. Anyways, thought i'd let you know....20 bucks can fix it if you want

Funky Frame

By: snofun3 (3)
March 4, 2007

These goggles have the Iridium lens which is great in reasonable light conditions. The strap on the goggles is VERY short, so if you're an adult don't think it will reach around a helmet. I substituted a longer strap and all went well. Apparently the Orange frame didn't sell well, as you can get these for less than a set of replacement lenses. Buy them anyway.

Awesome Goggles!

By: TaylorG (1)
January 25, 2007

Probably the best goggles I have owned. They work great in the day, but not recommended for use at night. Never do they fog up! I would also encourage you not to rest your goggles on your forehead, like everyone else seems to do. This allows for the goggles (the foam) to form to your head and not to your face. This rule goes for any type of goggles.

Great Goggles

By: Grateful Ned (13)
December 17, 2006

I've been using the A-frames with my Giro 9 helmet for years, and I really like the way this set-up fits my small face. I never have fogging issues or problems with wind leaking through the goggle foam. Make sure that you do not wipe out the inside of the goggle lens, because it will ruin the anti-fogging. I also really like the Iridium Lens, which works really well when it's still snowing, but the sun keeps peaking through the clouds.

If your looking for a super deal on the best goggles on the market, I would keep an eye on steepandcheap.com. I love these goggles; the peripheral vision is good and I only find that they fog up under understandable circumstances, like putting them over your vents on your helmet.

These goggles fit my little face amazing! The iridium lenses ROCK in the sun so much! You will for sure get the raddest goggle tan in these. They block the sun from coming in the lenses so well! They are not great lenses for low light or night skiing, but just get some replacements with yellow or red for those days. They do not fog up on me, only when i am hiking with them on they do a little. The fleece along the foam that touches your skin is warm and cushy!

By: blindpotato (9)
September 27, 2006

These goggles are great. They fit great, look great, and there's almost no fogging. The only problem is that the lenses are very prone to scratches so you have to be very careful with them. Absolutely no rubbing! Only dab if there is moisture. It sucks that these lenses are also so expensive. Other than this lens problem, they are awesome goggles. Why do you think so many pros use them?

Oakley A-Frame

By: skiing in Niseko, Japan (1)
February 22, 2006

The Oakley A Frame works well for my face, a bit on the small side. It resists moisture and fogging inside the goggle even when the snow condition is rough; rain, or heavy snow, it works very well. The Iridium lens offers great protection against the sun but a bit difficult to see when it's really cloudy or snowing heavily.

I got these this year here in Oregon and went up twice. I could not see my board let alone a tree five feet in front of me. So before I went a second time I got regular amber lens to try that. After every run I would have to stop my friends, take the goggles off my helmet and wipe out the mist and fog that was inside the lens. Before I went up again I gave the Oakleys to one of my friends that had $20 dollar smiths, and I bought a pair of the Anon Theorems with the ionized lenses. I went up had no eyesight problems, no fog or mist problems, I even hit goggle first into a rail and didn’t even leave a nick. Don’t buy Oakleys, buy Anons.

At first I decided to go cheap and get the $20 cheap goggles at a sports authority or Modells. They kept my eyes from watering from all the wind, but I hated them. I bought these about a year ago and they are incredible. Never had a problem, I also have a soft case that is also made for cleaning of the lenses (amazingly handy and cannot live without!). The Jet Black frame and Fire lenses is a killer combo.

January 12, 2005

These goggles were horrible. I had them for 1 year, did my fair share of riding with them and then this year out in Utah they became completely useless to me. Apparently moisture got inbetween the lense and was stuck there, even after drying them out there were smudges that I could not get off because it was between the 2 lenses. This shouldn't be happening after only 1 year. I will never buy Oakley again.

May 17, 2003

I used the A Frames with irydium lenses in the Alps during snow fall and sunny weather. The goggles were fog free all the time. I had my prescription glasses on and they fogged from time to time. The A Fames have really good ventilation and moving with intermediate speed removed the fog quite fast (means keep going all the time :) The A frames give really good visibility in every direction and good contrast both during sunny and cloudy days.

Lay down the cash for these babies. I own the A-frames with the amber lens and they work like a charm. The other day I went riding at the local resort and I fell on the first jump getting snow inside the goggles. I shook out the snow and set them on my forehead and 3 runs later they were good as new. The venting works super good and as long as you keep some air flowin through the lens you'll be fog free. Just don’t pop em on your dome when you hike backcountry. They'll fog up like a submarine make-out session.

April 25, 2003

I've never been a giant fan of Oakley products but these goggles may have just changed my mind. I got my first pair of A Frames despite the fact that they look really cool and just because at the time, it was a really good deal. They sucked. They fogged up every time I put them on. It turns out that Oakley had a problem with their coatings that year and quickly fixed that. I got another pair this year and they are great. I've never had my new ones fog up at all and the lenses seem to be relatively scratch resistant (for goggles). They fit my dome perfectly and I really don't see any need to switch brands again. Good stuff, even though they look cool. Hopefully I'm the only person who notices that.
