Northwave Bike Hornet Cycling Shoes - Men's

With three hook-and-loop straps to adjust for a solid fit and a burly, rigid Zytel sole, the Northwave Men's Hornet Cycling Shoe ensures comfort and a powerful pedal stroke. And you don't have to rob a bank to afford the Hornets (maybe just a 7-11). Northwave gave these road bike shoes breathable, lightweight polyurethane uppers for maximum ventilation and stability. Heel inserts on these shoes prevent heel lift for max pedaling efficiency.

Bottom Line: These cycling shoes deliver pedaling performance, breathability, and comfort, and leave a few dollars in your wallet.

These run big!

I wear a 12 and all the size charts told me to order a 46 so I did. When I got the shoes they said they were and EU 46 but a 13 in US. I scratched my head and deiced to try them on. They were extra big even bigger than the old nikes I had been using that were a 47. I don't know if they were miss sized or if NorthWave just runs big in this style. I have ordered some Areator 3's in a 45 we will see how those fit and depending on the outcome one may stay or they both may go back. I just hope these guys refund my shipping with their 100% guarantee I would hate to blow an extra $20 just to find out their sizing chart is wrong. All that stuff to say after getting the shoes and looking at them closely they look well constructed and the sole is stiff as crap. They seem like they would be a very good shoe for the money. For me with the size problem they would make some huge blisters rubbing around. Just make sure you order a size smaller than you think. I will give the shoe 3 stars based solely on looks and fist impressions seeing as I won't actually get to use them.

I ordered these shoes, but my SPD clip ins won't mount to the bottom. Does anybody know if you can mount regular SPD cleats to the bottom?

These shoes require 3 hole, road style, LOOK cleats and will not work with an SPD system. You will have to replace your pedals/ cleats to use these shoes.

These run big!

So here's the run down. Based on the backcountry sizing chart I ordered a 46 since I normally wear a size 12US. When the shoes came they said 46EU inside but the US said 13. Strange, I know. So I figured what the heck and tired them on they were much wider and longer than I needed even bigger than the old Nikes I used to have in a 47 (that say 12.5US in them). So just be warned, I am not sure if the shoes are mis-sized or if the chart is wrong or this style just runs big. I have since ordered a pair of the NorthWave Areator 3's in a 45- we will just have to see what's going on here. I only hope that I get refunded my shipping too $30 bucks is a lot to pay to find out that their sizing chart is wrong. Based purely on looks and first impressions I will give these shoes 3 stars. The sole is stiff as crap they are fairly light and the seem to be built well. For the price I payed not bad! I can't say for sure because I have never used them.
