MontBell America, Inc. U.L. Alpine Down Hugger #5 Sleeping Bag: 40 Degree Down

You'll hardly notice the 1lb 1oz MontBell U.L Alpine Down Hugger #5 40-Degree Sleeping Bag in your backpack, until you need a good night's sleep. This ultra-light down sleeping bag's elasticized inner lining hugs your body to increase warmth without restricting your movement or reducing the bag's loft. Shorter users can close off the last baffle, reducing the amount of empty space to heat. A Ballistic Airlight nylon shell retains this sleeping bag's 800-fill down and resists drips from tent or tarp walls.

Bottom Line: Ultra-light backpacker's dream about the MontBell U.L Alpine Down Hugger #5 summer sleeping bag.

Well Made

The sizing of this bag fits my 5'8" 145# body well. There is plenty of room to move around without feeling confined. The temperature rating isn't exactly accurate. When using this bag on the fourth night of a two week outing, the temps dropped to 50. I was using a silk liner and had to cinch the bag completely to get warm. I eventually had to add a thermal shirt when the temperature dropped to 48. I looked at the bag in the morning and held it up to the sunlight. I could see gaps in the down where there was no insulation at all. My bag may have been slighted on some of it's down.

Have you had any of these bags returned because they didn't have enough insulation installed? My bag weighs 15.5 oz, which is 1.5 oz. less than the stated weight. I noticed several of the baffles on the back side do not have enough down to fill the baffle. I was wondering if the manufacturer has had to add down to some of their bags because of these cold spots?

just got this. haven't had a chance to use it on the trail yet, but i've slept in my room and it's great. pros: stuffs very small (slightly larger than a nalgene), very comfortable (elastic system works), and while i'm not sure yet, i feel like i could use it down to its rating. cons: its purple, it looks blue on the website, but its one of those purpleish blues.
